and where to buy. I want to get some modeling paste to use with stencils on my layouts. Any recommendations as to a brand and where I could buy. I don't want it to be too thick. I was going to buy the Teresa Collins brand, but I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.

I believe Tim Holtz has a modeling paste which I saw him recently using on his blog. You might check his blog(search modeling paste)or the Ranger website.

I grabbed my TC from A Cherry on Top. Now that TC is branching out to Joanns, they may sell it there. Michaels carries some by Martha Stewart. It is back with all of her paints and such. The one I picked up is sparkly. Takes awhile to dry but very pretty. I also found some modeling crème at Hobby Lobby. It was by Viva. There was mother of pearl white that has just a bit of shimmer to it. Dries quickly. I also picked up the Ferro color. Dark metallic gray. These were being clearance at mine so you might not be able to find it. Look in the clearance section just in case.
ETA: Just looked at ACOT and they are out. Js online is out but when I clicked on locate in store, I entered my zip code and it said there were 3 in stock. So it seems they are carrying it in store. Just in case you have a Js nearby.

I've only used the Golden's Light Modeling Paste so I can't give a fair comparison...that being said I really like it alot. It is very light and dries rather quickly. You can color it prior to applying it with paints, Gelato's, mists, stains, etc....
You can also get it at Michaels with a 40% coupon so it's pretty inexpensive considering one tub really does go along way.

I prefer the Golden brand the best. I do like the Whipped Spackle by Faber Castell but it is quite a small jar and pricey. If you have a local scrap store or art store, their price is likely to be better than Michaels (even with the coupon).

I have viva's modeling cream in a few colours..I love it.
NOW I did go to an art store and get a container for model paste I think golden's or liqutex I haven't tried it yet but I plan to this weekend. I like that it is white so I can add my own colour to it. It was really cheap too. And it really goes a long way.

Golden or liquitex, they're flexible, and created for art (I'm sure other well known brands are good too, But I've not had experience with many others recently)
I've been using those two brands for years, Along with a couple of others here and there. Light modeling paste and modeling paste are essentially the same thing, as is embossing paste. The only difference is regular modeling paste is heavier, but it works exactly the same way.
They're also created to mix paint or pigments into it if you choose, so you can change the color at will
Buy them at any craft store in the art section

You guys are the best. I will go check out some of these tomorrow at Michaels. I looked at Joanne's here and didn't see any TC. I have another question. Do you tape down your stencil first, and then apply? How does it keep from going under the stencil? And what do you use it for other than putting it on layouts? I am sure it would be great on canvas.

I don't usually tape my stencils down unless I am doing a large spot. The best trick to not getting it under the stencil is to not keep going over it. Pretend you are buttering toast - spread it across once and lift. I use it on layouts, cards, canvases (put a book underneath your canvas so you don't stretch it out), altered items...nothing is out of bounds! Have fun

I have both Golden and Liquitex. My absolute favorite is Liquitex Light Modeling Paste. That stuff is amazing! I love to mix it with a bit of acrylic paint or mist to color it a bit too. Works amazing.

TC's modeling paste is hard to find, the packaging makes it hard to know that it is the paste...I think. I found it in my little Joanne Store - same aisle as Tim Holtz items. As for taping down stencils, I don't but if you want to, use washi tape (aka repositionable). Spread on lightly and layer your paste to avoid seeping through. I use this technique on everything - canvas, pages, cards, on tops of boxes and other surfaces. Like the others, I would use the light paste. Good Luck and have FUN~!!
