I've been seeing a few people making cards to fit #10 envelopes (I'm pretty sure that's the standard business size envelopes, right?). It's a different format and canvas that I haven't tried, but I'm thinking of some stamps I have that might fit better onto that size than the standard A2. I'm also tempted to get this Christmas card cut file and pop a photo strip inside this year: shop.loriwhitlock.com/no-10-aspen-tree-cardinal-card/Does anyone love making these tall/long cards? Do you make your own envelopes for them or send them in standard business envelopes? Are there any blog posts or discussions you've seen about this trend you could recommend?

I haven't made any but I love the look and how they fit into regular envelopes.

I make them sometimes. 4x9" cards fit in standard business envelopes. I like that one with the trees and birds, joblackford. I don't have a die that long so would have to use a cut file.

I like to receive them, but I'm not a fan of making them. There's just too much area to fill. LOL! I can barely fill an A2 card.

I like them and I have enjoyed making a few! The ones I've made are usually with a scene that has too many objects to fit in an A2 size card. You can fit a lot more on those. So that's something to think about. When I started making some I would go check out Nicky Noo cards blog because she has the dimensions and also some pretty cards. I think she makes them a lot.

(in case other people are curious nickynoocards.blogspot.com/search/label/Slimline ) She has great examples and instructions and as I was reading I had an idea for a specific card that I am going to try to make. I had 4 Doodlebug Christmas stocking die cuts laid on in two rows on a card (not stuck down yet) and just realized they would make much more visual sense strung in a line across a slimline card! So I'm going to give it a go. I definitely run out of space sometimes because I love big die cuts. But it looks like even with smaller images these cards can be pretty fun. I might even be able to fit sentiments on the front of some cards if I try this size

I've used them to make name or word cards for birthdays. When a name or word is too long for a standard card, this size is really handy.

I have made them in the past. One because it fit a Sizzix Decorated strip that had lake, mountains and moon scene. Another was to use the very long QuicKutz street lamp. I just used reguloar business envelope, was happy to not buy special envelope!

Nicky Noo's cards are awesome! I finally checked out her blog, and now I'm inspired to make slimline cards for my Christmas cards next year - I've decided to start on my cards in January because I'm tired of scrambling at the last minute every year, lol.
I like the Hello Bluebird stamps but they always look like they copied Lawn Fawn, so I have trouble buying from them. Still, their stuff is cute, I'll look at their website and see if I still feel that way once I see their entire line of products.

I'm late to this thread but yes! I have several from some of the older A Beautiful Mess card kits and they're some of my favorite cards! They are really fun to make too! I made this one for my SO a few years ago when he turned 30. (A 75% lift from a card that inspired me online)

But when I saw a matching die set for a stamp set I own at mft for $33 😲 I decided to give Hello Bluebird a try. The die set was no bigger than some of their others that were way less and it seems like most of their dies are priced higher than other companies.

I love it One of the reasons I'm interested in slimline cards is to use stamps that don't fit well on A2 cards, like the 3 cat selfie stamps I have that would make a really cute photostrip, but are too tall once they're all put together. I'm excited to play around with some of the stamps I have that might work. The slimline Xmas card I sent out to family ( Lori Whitlock shop) seemed to be a big hit, perhaps partly because the size stood out from the rest.

Thanks joblackford and I loved the trees/birds cards you made! So pretty and the die definitely is a statement die. I have a birch tree die from MFT but it's just a standard size. I like the taller one much better!

The slimline Xmas card I sent out to family ( Lori Whitlock shop) seemed to be a big hit, perhaps partly because the size stood out from the rest. That's a great card, I can see why it was a big hit, it's very eye-catching. They are really fun to make too! I made this one for my SO a few years ago when he turned 30. (A 75% lift from a card that inspired me online) That's such a fun card! The size is perfect for a milestone birthday. My Favorite Things as well. And for a long time, I resisted. But when I saw a matching die set for a stamp set I own at mft for $33 😲 I decided to give Hello Bluebird a try. The die set was no bigger than some of their others that were way less and it seems like most of their dies are priced higher than other companies. Yes, MFT as well, thank you. But I agree with you - Hello Bluebird's prices are so much better than either MFT or LF. I really like HB's design team and I'm getting very inspired by their blog. Their shipping to Canada is also reasonable ($5 over $75). I may be talking myself into this...

I generally only make A2 cards but love the look of the slimline cards on Nicky's blog. Might have to give them a go!

This post inspired me to make a long card...I made New Year cards I love your card! How many of them did you make? So nice to send those out to family and friends! Thanks I made 30 they were simple...I end up buying envelopes from Amazon (had a top flap). It was nice to do something different. With the extra envelopes, I'll be making more cards this size. Thanks everyone for the compliments.

SSS just posted a video by Yana Smakula that illustrates this type of card. I think her card is really cute, and you could easily adapt it for other occasions. Unisex Valentine's Day Card
