Every year mine get worse. I am careful, and also have done everything in my house to help mitigate them.
Last Tuesday night I came down with laryngitis. I had been for a 4 mile walk in a wooded area, so I attributed it to that. It lasted through the day on Wednesday.
I take Zyrtec, Flonase sensimist, and I just added Mucinex (which doesn’t really seem to be helping) the other day for post nasal drip.
This morning I woke up again with laryngitis. My voice is completely gone. I haven’t even stepped foot outside my condo since Friday. My windows are closed. Short of nasal irrigation (which just skeeves me out), does anyone have any other suggestions to try? Needless to say a dr visit isn’t in the cards right now.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

Could you try some saline spray instead of the total sinus rinse you’d get with a neti pot? We use Arm & Hammer Simply Saline spray that comes in a can instead of in a plastic bottle for DD because she has trouble with a neti pot. I have a can that I use sometimes too when my sinuses get bad and it does help some.

I have spring allergies also. Just bite the bullet and use the Netti Pot. Your sinuses will thank you.

Fingers crossed - it should be here on Saturday, though I won’t hold my breathe on that one.

Honestly, neti pots didn't help me. The saline spray helps me the most as far as non-medicinal things go.
One thing about using Mucinex, you have to drink a lot of extra liquid for it to really help. It works by thinning out the mucous so it can drain better, but it uses fluids from your body to do that.

There is a mucinex with pseudoephedrine in it. You have to sign for it since it is behind a pharmacy counter. That helps me with head congestion/pressure. Not recommended if you have high blood pressure though. It may upset your stomach so best taken with food.

I use Zyrtec D during allergy season plus a prescription nasal spray. I just found out from my pharmacist that in MI I can get a 30 day supply with a prescription. It works, I was getting very annoyed trying to keep track of when I could get more allergy medicine. I’m not sure who decided a 12 day supply was the cut off but that is just asinine.

I get them also. My symptoms are sore throat with any weather change (and the weather changes a lot here), productive cough, lots of sneezing, sinus headaches. Claritin helps a tiny bit. Everything else causes drowsiness.

I would consider getting rid of dairy in your diet. I'm not sure if it will help with allergies but it did get rid of my asthma when I did it. And I'm fairly certain it's helped my allergies because every since I did it (6 years ago) my allergies have been better each Spring and Fall. I do take Zyrtec very day, but I used to have to take Flonase plus Zyrtec every day.
This book is great about teaching the truth about diary:"Whitewash:The Disturbing Truth about Cow's Milk and Your Health" by Joseph Keon.
It might be worth a try if you can do it. Cheese is the hardest thing to eliminate from your diet but it can be done. Once you get past 30 days it gets easier. Here's a great book just about giving up cheese, "The Cheese Trap: How Breaking a Surprising Addiction Will Help You Lose Weight, Gain Energy, and Get Healthy" by Neal D. Barnard, MD.

I’m at an age where everything is dry, and the A&H saline spray helps both my sinuses and my throat if it’s scratchy as well. I only worry about rebound effect when I use a medicated product like Afrin, which I occasionally do as well but only if my congestion is so severe I can’t sleep, and only for three days. I’ve never had a problem with the saline spray. I’ve used a neti pot before but for me the spray is easier and cleaner (wash the tip well after use), and gives me about the same results.

I agree with the Neti Pot. I found it incredibly helpful with my allergies. I should probably get mine out because they have started up again.

Rebound effect That rebound only happens with sprays like Afrin. The stuff I was talking about is a non medicated saline solution exactly like you would use in a neti pot, only it’s in a pressurized can so it can sort of shoot up into your nose. The saline just goes up in your sinuses to help you rinse them out without using a neti pot, which works so much better for me. What I like about the Simply Saline is that the can is pressurized so it sprays the saline out of the can. I’ve used other saline sprays but the plastic bottle has to be squeezed to spray it which means when you let go, the bottle sucks in air and it has the possibility of sucking the fluid out of your nose and back into the bottle in the process which is not only gross but then it contaminates the rest of the stuff in the bottle. The pressured can prevents that and is so much easier to use. Even my 9yo can do it herself.

I've been taking zyrtec D, spraying the flonase, and I still need tylenol for sore throat. Horrible post nasal drip, sore throat, and my lungs are burning.

My eyes have been itchy for weeks, I suspect something is blooming.
I never had any problem when I was younger.

Dairy and I don’t get along any more, and I’ve never been a cheese fan, so other than 2-3 Greek yogurts a week I don’t eat or drink any.

Tree pollen is terrible here this time of year. I switched to Xyzal and it works much better for me than Zyrtec. Might be worth a try.

I take Zyrtec twice a day and that helps I've been splitting mine in half and taking a half in the morning and a half in the evening, as I could feel it wearing off at about 6pm every night. It’s definitely helped me get through the evenings better. I need to talk to my Dr or pharmacist before doubling the recommended dose though :/

I take it twice a day because it helps prevent skin rashes. My doctors approve. Good idea to check.

For any of the saline rinses, I’d use them after I came in from being outside for any real leangth of time like after your walk. Otherwise I’d use it at night, but start at least an hour before bed because you may need to blow your nose a bit. Also, something I learned from the peas, make sure and use distilled water due to brain eating amoebas. Not kidding Merge Does the xyzal help a lot with the mountain cedar? Notice if it works better for ragweed? I alternate monthly between certrizine and loratadine and it’s not enough.

Xyzal worked really well for me but I do think it is very strong and when I stopped it I had to taper otherwise my allergies seemed to flare up more. I have gone back to cheaper claritin. My mom swears by rotating antihistamines and sometimes I think she is right.

I take it year-round because I'm allergic to everything that floats in the air, plus I have chronic hives. It controls both. It does make me sleepy so I take it at night, and I don't notice sleepiness during the day. Everyone's different so I don't know about specific people and allergens, but I think it's worth a shot if your current stuff isn't working.
