Not my finest day today. In addition to the cinnamon bread epic fail I posted about earlier, I also made pizza dough.
While it was rising, I hauled out my pampered chef mandolin and started slicing veggies nice and thin for toppings. Mushrooms and half a pepper don’t really work well with the guard so I was free handing it - see where this is going?
You don’t realize how much you use your dominant thumb until it is wrapped in triple bandaids. The touch screen on my phone doesn’t work with the bandaids lol.
And as I tried to hoist my ass up on the couch in a more comfy position, said thumb got caught on the piping in the cushion....
Can I have a do over today?

Oh, ouch! I find finger injuries are always much more painful than a cut somewhere else on my body. I don’t know if it is because we use our hands constantly and keep bumping the injured digit or what, but I hate finger cuts. I have to admit, as soon as I read “mandolin” I cringed in sympathy for you.

Yep! Those are the worst! 😮 I still have a scar on tip of my thumb after a knife accident from 25 years ago!

Ouch, ouch, ouch!
Always use the guard or take it one stroke at a time, absolutely no fast swiping!

Ouch! I am so sorry!! I cook a lot, and have had my fair share of finger cuts...several recently. My last one sent me for stitches. It sucks!! Hope you heal quickly. I am being much more careful lately because the stitches in my finger thing is something I don’t want to repeat!

I use my mandolin, but I'm ridiculously cautious. I make Ds and Dh stay out of the kitchen so they don't distract me.
Hope your wound heals quickly.

Ouch! Ouch!
Isn't it saying something when the biggest inconvenience to a digit injury is that we can't work the phone any more? When I was wearing gloves in the supermarket I discovered that I couldn't get to the place where you typed in the lock code, and had to find a quiet corner with a 2m gap around me to try to figure out how to get round it. I was NOT going to take those dratted gloves off.
Heal quickly.

I used a mandolin at work for many many years. Once there was a new hire i was supposed to train. When we got to the mandolin part of the day, she literally ran away screaming because it was too scary for her. Then in the rest of the two weeks she worked there she told the owner a bunch of lies about how we all were bullying her and the owner reprimanded us. Somehow she found it too hard to believe that one stranger was lying instead of 5 people she had known for years.

Youch! I’ve had a thumb stitched up due to the mandolin. I now wear those cut-proof gloves - well, just one on my right hand - when I slice things with the mandolin.
I hope it heals quickly for you.

as soon as I read the word 'mandolin' I also cringed... and I can sympathise. I sliced a very thin layer of the pad of my thumb off on that stupid thing years ago, and it would NOT stop bleeding. for HOURS. We actually went to the ER (this was while I was unemployed, and had no health insurance) but after waiting there for a couple hours, I decided to just take my chances with band aids.
I won't even TOUCH that thing, now; I'd rather use a knife. (although I should probably get a Kevlar glove, as I've had some close calls with knives, too... I'm clumsier now than I used to be, damn menopause, anyway)

Someone on a past episode of Guy's Grocery Games -- Justin Warner, I think -- said the mandolin was the most dangerous kitchen instrument to play (or something like that)!
Guy showed a contestant how to use the mandolin on small things like radishes and mushrooms: Stick a fork in the item and go slowly.

Ouchy!!! So sorry. It’s true, you never know how much you use even your non dominant hand until it hurts.
