Has anyone heard anything about the Portland protesters burning flags and Bibles? I see it is trending on Twitter but I can't find any info anywhere else. To be honest it sounds like a setup to me. I can't imagine that the protesters would turn to doing this and then have no media coverage except for bunches of right-wingers blasting it on Twitter.

That was my thought. That or just pictures from some other situation from another time. I think if it were truly the protesters that it would be all over every news outlet. My Mother-in-law mentioned it last night and I thought it odd that I hadn't heard anything about it. I saw it trending this morning but I googled and found one news story from some outlet I've never heard of.

Looks like this story was spread by Ruptly, which is a Russian site known for staging propaganda. (Also a wing of RT) There's one video which has no information about where, when, who or why. No proof that it was in Portland or even happened this year, let alone an action by protestors.
I'm going with fake until someone reputable confirms.

If it were true it would be everywhere.

I guess I’ll go out on a limb and say that I don’t really care if it is true.
Both of those activities are protected by the First Amendment. And what is being burned/damaged/hurt are inanimate objects that aren’t alive and are without feelings. They are pieces of paper and cloth.
Anyone bothered by this treatment of the flag or the Bible - true or false - should be exponentially more bothered/enraged by the treatment POC receive at the ends of the police, by the tear gassing and shooting with rubber bullets of innocent people so the President could have a photo op, by the families ripped apart and thrown into cages at our border, by the thousands upon thousands dying due the mishandling of the pandemic by this White House, and on and on.
When compared to what is happening to living, breathing and feeling human beings in this country at the hands of the police and the government, I just can’t work up any outrage at the idea of anyone destroying flags or bibles, whether it is true or false.

I agree with elaine . I also find it incredibly hypocritical that the same people who would be livid about this would also be the ones justifying the confederate flag as "just a flag."
