The litter box is in my laundry room, which is just inside my condo's front door. My main floor is completely open (kitchen, living room, dining room). I sweep (or vacuum) daily becaue, well, litter. And cat hair. Even though I have a highly rated litter catcher rug right in front of the box. The chore is a minor annoyance, but I'd love not to sweep every single day if possible.
Anyhow, the floors on my main floor are large format tile, with a 9x12 rug in the living area. Lots of table legs, chair legs, the kitchen island is on legs (open underneath). Will a Roomba be able to manage all that AND pop up onto the rug on it's own? Or am I going to have to move all these things before letting it do it's thing? If so, I may as well just continue spending the time doing it on my own.
Thanks for sharing your opinions!

Our Roomba does a pretty good job navigating our house. Occasionally it will get stuck under a chair and it will let you know that you need to come move it. It navigates onto our living room rug well. It's the smaller rugs, like in our bathroom, that it sometimes gets stuck on. We close the door to certain rooms that we know it may have a problem with if we won't be home when running it. Overall, we love ours and it works well for us!

I run mine almost every day to battle the hair from our GSD. I do close doors to bedrooms/bathrooms, the laundry room, and the formal areas so it concentrates on the family room, kitchen/breakfast area, and long hallways. But even so, it navigates carpet in the family room, area rugs in the kitchen, a runner at the front door, hardwoods, and a slate floor with no difficulty. It does occasionally get 'stuck' under a piece of furniture (edge of the couch or under the media center legs mostly), but it 'tells' me to come un-stick it. I love that hard-working little gadget!

I think it will work fine. Mine hardly ever gets stuck.

A roomba would be perfect in that situation. We actually have a Shark IQ (made by shark) which is similar to the programmable Roombas and I would recommend it. It will map out the floor so if you just want to do a room you can, and you can schedule it. More importantly, it has a canister for all the dirt and fur and the shark returns to the canister when its full (at least once every time it vacuums) and automatically unloads it before continuing to vacuum. That's nice because we don't have to be home to run it, and it won't stop part way through waiting for us to come along and dump the internal canister. We have 2 cats and the fur is just unreal. It's been a lifesaver during the pandemic as we don't have housecleaning service anymore.

I have the shark version and bought extra boundary tape to prevent it from keep getting stuck behind my couch.
Otherwise it will bang up against a chair leg and keep turning itself around until it has a patch. No big deal. I don't have any light rugs but it does like to eat my clutter that I leave on the floor.
I think overall it would work for you, but I don't know how it does with litter

It will work but it will take a lot longer than simply sweeping up. If you don’t mind just letting it run it’s fine.

Thanks so much for your input, I appreciate it. One last question since I’d probably run it upstairs as well, has yours ever fallen down the stairs? Thanks again

Ours navigates rugs with no problem. The thing it gets hung up on is furniture that is too low for it to go under but can’t get back out of, cords for lamps or our Sleep Number bed or things that get dropped on the floor like a Kleenex.
The other thing to be aware of is if the pets have an accident on the floor and the Roomba runs through it. That would make a HUGE mess. I’d be a bit more wary of using it in a litter box area where that could be a more likely possibility.

Thanks again We have a step down to the formal living room with no threshold and it’s never run off that edge. I also keep the French doors to the screened porches open a lot and it doesn’t run off those steps either.
