I am trying to make a photo collage in Picassa, and no matter what ratio I try, it cuts off a decent portion when I upload it to Costco to print.
What size or ratio do I select or input into Picassa to prevent the photos from being cut down?

What size are you trying to print? The ratio for an 8x10 is different than the ratio for an 4x6. A 4x6 will have the same ratio as an 8x12 but not as an 8x10. So your final print dimensions determines the ratio when preparing to print.

kateyestudio.com/2011/11/exploring-with-a-camera-printed-aspect-ratios.htmlThe link may help explain it some. Also, if you are purposely going for an odd shape the processor may enlarge the image to fit the paper ordered. I wanted a 5x10 panoramic photo but the place only offered 8x10... should have been easy enough to just leave half the sheet blank but their process enlarged the images to print completely so my ends got cropped and my mid section was enlarged to fit the space.

The problem with cards is this: The outer dimensions of the card itself maybe a 5x7 but the photo box on the card may be something else entirely. Does your collage take up the entire card or is it in a bounded area?

Okay voltagain, that worked. I'm embarrassed to admit that I never checked the card's dimensions--I was just trying to make the highest resolution collage I could thinking all standard photos had the same ratio. It appears that selecting "5 x 7" didn't affect the resolution at all, just the dimensions. Thank you!

You need to create your image as a 5x7, then when you upload it should be fine.
You might also see if they have templates for their cards that you can download and build your image on. There are usually bleed lines for printed products so that may also be part of the problem.
I used to have a diagram that showed the different crop ratios. Let me see if I still have it, hang on a sec.

It still cuts off a very small amount, but not enough to ruin the photos.

I didn't like any of the "build your card collage" options, so I went with one that has a single photo on the front with the greeting, and the back is just one large photo. I figured I'd make my own single collage with as many photos as I wanted. Some are big, a couple are small, and it's perfect.
