I love MAGA buzzwords. I love being Woke. I hope MAGA realizes that "woke" people are generally more educated and make more money than sleepers. We have power. Target is realizing it.

Has Target changed course? Can I go back to shopping there now? ETA nope, not yet.

I've been telling people that DS with a master's in molecular and cellular biology just got a "woke" job that won't last with this administration. It's with a start-up that produces natural bacteria to combat disease on crops instead of toxic pesticides.

History books are going to have a section someday about the people who decided in 2025 that diversity, equity, and inclusion (and empathy!) were bad things.

Has Target changed course? Can I go back to shopping there now? ETA nope, not yet. I don't know that I'll ever feel like it's "okay" to go there again simply because of how they reacted over the summer and then this. Not hand slapping, just a new "normal" for me. It used to be the place I took my small children on their Christmas shopping dates with me.

Imagine thinking that being "woke" is an insult! Ask a MAGAt (or the MGAGt equivalent in any other country) to define "woke" and they simply can't. Or won't. Hence the multitude of memes like this one:
History books are going to have a section someday about the people who decided in 2025 that diversity, equity, and inclusion (and empathy!) were a bad thing. Yes, history books are not going to be kind to our generation. I hope to leave enough of a mark that my great grandchildren know that I wasn't one of 'them'.

The handful of times someone has used the word “woke” in that way, I ask them, “Exactly what do you think that means to be woke?” And you know what? They never do have a very good answer. I would much rather be “woke” than intentionally ignorant which is what all of those people tend to be, regurgitating right wing talking points about things they know nothing about.

it's so stupid (and effective) to come up with "names" for our political opponents, I mean enemies.

It used to be the place I took my small children on their Christmas shopping dates with me. What would get me back (I have not set foot in there since they eliminated their DEI program) would be (1) acknowledgement that this was wrong, (2) a commitment to do better with concrete action plans, and (3) an ouster of the leadership team. So it’s not undoable. I feel like generally if you made decisions that caused the kind of economic loss that Target is experiencing, you’d lose your job.

I didn't want to say this on the thread about the kindergartners because it would "turn it political," but the suggestion I made about teaching kindness via a book and class discussion is straight up SEL. You know, that thing the right hates because it's "woke" and might make kids feel badly about shitty behavior, or encourage them to be kind to someone their parents' religion hates.
SEL leads to DEI, you see. Real empathy and social awareness leads to the idea that there is a place in our society and institutions for every single person.

And ignorant people, like my sister, who confuse SEL (which is taught in grade schools, and from what I’ve seen is not only helpful but also desperately needed these days for all those kids who were in their formative social skills building years during Covid) with CRT which is NOT taught in K-12 public schools. But you know, if they called it WWJD? It would probably suddenly all be ok.

This country has become so hateful. When a political party is openly mocking kindness and empathy, you know this country has hit rock bottom.

Every time I hear someone use the term "woke" as an insult, I have to hold on to my eyeballs so that they don't roll right out of my head. It just strikes me as the most juvenile sounding thing, especially when uttered by grown adults.

I want to walk through life being "woke", eyes open and aware. NOT asleep, eyes shut and ignorant of things around me.

Anytime someone calls me "woke", I say "thank you." I do too. I had someone say this to me and I said "thanks, that's a great compliment" - they did not know what to say!
