I am looking for something to have on my counter to chop and store veggies. I have a friend who is neurodivergent just like me. She struggles sometimes with depression which I do too. And one of her life hacks is that she keeps a cutting board out on her counter all day and as she wanders her house throughout the day she preps her dinner veggies and then stores them in the fridge. She also preps ahead sauces and seasoning blends. I know that this might seem like a silly thing but when she told me she does this, it was like a light bulb went off in my head that this could make my life easier. I have tried all sorts of ways to Google this and I'm not finding what I'm looking for. Basically I'm looking for something with a cutting board built in and small to medium-large containers that have lids. Stuff that needs to go in the fridge can go in there. But things like spice blends can stay out in smaller containers. Anyone have something like this they can recommend? Does anyone find value in something like this? Update: I ordered the one Linda linked. I was discussing with Jeremy ways we could make our kitchen more user friendly for me and he loves the idea that this would be easily portable for camping.

I like the idea of this but haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet. Try searching “food prep station” - I get hits on Amazon for what I think you’re talking about. I’m sure there are other places that sell this type of set up. Good luck!

Yes that's the kind of thing I keep getting too. But all the compartments are the same size and I can't see where they have lids. I think I'm looking for a unicorn.

I have no ideas for you, but I wanted to say that for me prepping food is relaxing. I just got done making a big salad, slicing strawberries, cutting up a melon, slicing cheese (three ways, shredded, sliced, and chunks), and boiling eggs. Not today but I do a large dice to celery, carrots and onions to freeze for use in soups and stews later. Oh, and slice up bell peppers to freeze for later use, too.
I even buy the big pork loin from Costco and prep and freeze. I slice it into chops and leave a couple of big chunks for roasts. Same with big packs of beef.

I think the one linked to above is very cute. I may be totally missing the point here but what's the difference between putting your normal chopping board out, with some Tupperware or similar and just use that through the day? A sort of DIY prep station?

A sort of DIY prep station? Yes, this would be my choice. I just baked, bagged and put in the freezer chopped potatoes.. I just bought the 'Ball' 8 oz feezer containers for mashed potatoes and fruits in the freezer.

A sort of DIY prep station? I could totally do this. But I've been in the market for new cutting board for quite a while now. And I actually don't have a lot of containers either. Soni thought that I might combine the two needs into something a little more functional.

Plus gillyp as someone with executive function issues having a ready made system is a bonus.

I use a lot of fresh produce preparing meals since we started following a WFPB diet. I don have an all in one unit but I can tell you what has helped me make prepping easier for me over the last 11 years.
A really good, large wood cutting board. Mine is huge and thick. I love it. I store it in the counter in an old paper napkin holder vertically.
An excellent quality cutting knife or two. Up until last year my chef’s knife was from IKEA. Enough said. I did sharpen it but it still left a lot to be desired. Last Spring during my trip to Germany I took the train the city famous for blades for hundreds of years about an hour north of Cologne. I found a small shop and bought a large chef’s knife, a smaller knife and the same for my father. Then I bought several paring knives for my mother and I (all together I paid 250 euros).
The first time I used the chef’s knife my mouth dropped open. It went through the red pepper like butter. So smooth with so little effort. Don’t wait for years like I did. Do yourself a favor and invest in good quality knives. I think the best come from Japan and Germany.
For storage I really love the glass Pyrex bowls with the plastic lids. They come in different sizes and shapes. When I am making bowls for dinner I can chop all of the veggies, pop each one in a bowl and line them up on the counter with the lids underneath. For dinner each person fills their bowl first with rice, then goes down the line adding veggies one by one. Clean up is a breeze-any leftovers go right in the fridge.

It's that I want to minimize the amount of time (at dinner time) to prep for dinner that is often very veggie heavy. I get very restless during the day and I work from home most of the time. So I often do a walk around my house every half hour or so. If I could use that time to prep it would kill two birds with one stone. Getting my wiggles out and minimizing prep after a long day.

I have concerns about the food safety of these items. Plus they are not dishwasher safe. But thank you.

My daughter and her boyfriend are trying to work out a salad bar drawer in her fridge. There was a prep station in the Amazon saved for later but it's not there now. I'll keep my eyes open for what she might order.

Would buying a really nice wood block cutting board be the answer? You can simply wipe as needed and leave it out.
I leave my large Boos Block out. My meal prep containers are in a cabinet below where I prep. I grab what I need and go to town.
I had the pressure ones I posted about last month but those became extremely difficult to open so I donated those and got snap ware from Costco. I am going to get a second set.
They are easy for DD and I to open.

Also jeremysgirl if you go with a wooden cutting board, you can get a bench scraper and use that to scoop up the cut produce and then dump it into the containers. I really like my bench scraper.

I have not been able to make up my mind because I keep trying to figure what would be the best way, the most functional way for me to do this. I'm going through a bit of a depressive cycle lately and food prep has been harder than usual. And yes on the glass. I keep thinking I need to reorganize my kitchen to make things more functional but I just don't even know where to start. I'm spinning my wheels.

This is the closest thing I have seen yet. It honestly looks like it has all the features I'm looking for and then a few extras I didn't even know I needed. And the way it folds up it could go in the camper too. I think this is very workable. Thank you. I'm going to sleep on it and give it a look with fresh eyes in the morning.

Is it a prep deck that you are thinking of? I didn't think it was because my mom had one years ago and hers didn't have all the features I was looking for, but the one posted below is a Prep Deck and it looks just right.
