Any Pea had tubes put in as an adult? I seem to have a lot of fluid in my ear. My physical in October, the dr said I had fluid and suggested using a nasal spray to help it. Seemed to work. Then about 3 or so weeks ago, my ear started getting clogged again. Thought it was wax and needed to be cleaned. So did a home cleaning kit. Nothing. Ended up at urgent care bc my primary didn't have availability before we were leaving town. UC dr said fluid in my right ear and some in my left. No wax and doesn't appear to be an infection. Remedy was to take an allergy med, sudafed and nasal spray 2x a day. Did that for over a week. Appeared to work and then this morning my ear started to fill up again. Going back to my primary care on Friday.
If this keeps up, I'm thinking of asking for tubes. Any experience?

My BFF here had them done 2x and I want to say she was 50 at the time. Do you want me to ask her anything if no one else replies?

My husband did when he was 31 but he had a long history of ear infections and Eustachian tubes not draining properly. Has permanent hearing loss. They had him try what you tried first, then the tubes. See an ENT to see what they rec.
It helped him a lot and he's had far fewer infections ever since, but the damage was already done long ago for him.

My mom just had them last winter, and she is in her early 80s. I'm hoping now that they're out, she won't have a recurring issue.

I got them as an adult, because when flying my ears would not clear and it was extremely painful. It was so bad I would cry, and sometimes they wouldn't clear for 3 days after a flight. They said tubes would help. but once they fell out, it could be better or could be back to the same. I was willing to try anything. They put numbing drops in my ears, and it didn't hurt getting the tubes put in, but made me nauseous hearing the "POP" when the tube was put in. THEN they had to do the other one, which was worse because I knew what to expect. Once they fell out, it was still much much better. My ears would get plugged flying, but wasn't near as painful and wouldn't stay plugged for more that an hour or two. That said, I'd do it again if I had too.

I have no experience with tubes, but I do have eustachian tube dysfunction. My inner ears fill with fluid regularly, especially my left ear. My Dr. suggested allergy nasal spray, but I used it religiously for three months with no improvement. I decided to try Arm and Hammer Simply Saline spray and it has worked great for me. I use it twice a day in the morning and evening. I also occasionally use a store-brand squeeze bottle saline spray.

I did and would never do it again without being at least under twilight anesthesia or completely knocked out. I’m still traumatized by the experience!
It did help but the process was painful and gruesome (without getting too graphic).

Thank you all for the replies. Glad to know it's not uncommon. I saw my dr today. She mentioned going the ENT route if this doesn't work. She prescribed a steroid for 5 days and to continue with the other things I've been doing. But she wanted to change up the allery medication (I was using generic Claritin and she wanted me to do Zyrtec) and the nasal spray (switching from genric Nascort to Flonase). She said to keep this up for another month. She said some people have to take the Claritin/Zyrtec from now on. We'll see. She said that and ENT normally doesn't go for tubes w/o chronic ear infection. However, an ear infection comes from lack of drainage.
