Every time a profile picture or cover picture is changed, it shows up in everyone's feed. Is there a way to change it so that it updates without everyone feeling the need to comment/like it? (See, I told you it was dumb... )

Yes. There is an arrow at the top left of the post. Click on it and change it to ONLY ME.

Tracy, not too dumb a question... I've always wanted to know too. Thanks for asking, and thanks for answering Kiki!

Thank you. Seriously. I want to change mine but don't want the whole FB community to know and feel they have to comment. I have a friend that changes hers almost every day. Always a selfie, same angle same pose. I think it makes her look so narcissistic. Come on, we know what you look like.
I just want to change mine to one more current but want to do it on the sly so no one really notices.

If you click on "only me" will anyone other then you ever see the updated profile picture though? Will they continue to see the old one or the dreaded question mark? Fact is even if it doesn't show up on their feeds as a change most people will notice it just next to your comments and say "hey nice profile pic" it's inevitable.

When you bring down the drop down menu I don't recall seeing an "only me" option, I've always chosen "hide from timeline" option.

It kind of makes me sad when people do not want people to compliment them on new photos. I understand that you're trying to not be your friend, but really you're not. Just because she changes all the time doesn't make you an attention whore like her. I love seeing how my friends change and what they choose for their cover photos. Sometimes I comment, sometimes I don't but I don't see how changing a photo forces other people to comment just because it's changed. I assume that people who comment do it because they want to, not because they feel they have to.
But if you really don't want anyone to see it, just do what the other posters have told you.

Thank you KikiPea ! Sometimes I just want an update without the world commenting. A few weeks ago was the 3rd anniversary of my friend's son passing away, so I just wanted to make my profile a butterfly (his "symbol") as a quiet remembrance. Now I know how to do it in the future!
