So, between a few things that have sidelined me health wise I decided to have a professional company come in and clean my house for the holidays. As I type this I hear all the cleaning, scrubbing, (singing with ear buds in) by three great ladies.
What have you done for yourself lately?

Isn’t it wonderful?! I did that before my grad party in May. I just didn’t want to spend two or more days cleaning and cooking! I’ve had them come once a month ever since. Enjoy!

I always say the check I write to the cleaning people is the best money I spend!
I purchased a set of glass storage bowls (with lids) and I'm going to get rid of my plastic containers. This sounds silly but it's something I've avoided doing for years and I've decided to stop driving myself crazy with the plastic container and missing lid issues.

What have you done for yourself lately? I'm so jealous! I keep thinking about doing that, but I just can't make the call. Maybe having them come and do a deep clean can be my Christmas present! Something I did for myself, was to clean out my closet and take some of the clothes I don't wear to Clothes Mentor. I got $100 for what I brought in, so I use that to buy myself a few new items I love. I cleaned out my closet, and I got some new pieces that I wear, it was a win-win! :-)

I hired someone yesterday to plow our driveway all winter. While I'm not the one who normally clears the driveway, it's been my job to wake DH up early and deliver the news that he has to snow-blow. Or, I have to try to get into the driveway that's not yet cleared before DH gets home. No more. I'm giddy.
Someone to clean the house would be heavenly. Maybe next year that will be the splurge.

Same here luckyexwife I would love to have someone come clean my house but I can’t make myself pull the trigger and pay someone to do what I can do myself. As for the OP question, I bought myself a bunch of dies on sale at Sizzix.com—TWICE! Because the deals were just that good. I found some on deep discount that I’d been wanting and I’ve actually been using them so it was money well spent.

This sounds silly but it's something I've avoided doing for years and I've decided to stop driving myself crazy with the plastic container and missing lid issues. I did the same thing - got rid of all my plastic containers in my cupboards. I have glass bowls with lids. I also found the rectangular and square storage containers fit better than the round ones. I have a small bag of disposable plastic containers stored elsewhere for sending food for someone who needs a meal.

I had someone come in when I had a toddler and was pregnant with my second. I worked full time and was plain exhausted. They even did the sheets on the bed. It was amazing.

I also hired a cleaning lady to come twice a month. My favorite things she does is: - dust all the corners for cobwebs
- dusts every single thing on a shelf or on the wall
- dusts all the light fixtures
- scrubs the bathroom
- wipes down the outside of every appliance (large and small)
- scrubs the kitchen and bathroom floor
I love not having to do that stuff! And truth be told, it's motivating me to get more organized and tidy because I want things to look nice and out of the way when she comes. Win-Win for me!

There's nothing like having a clean house, especially if someone else is cleaning it - good for you!!
Here's my what I've done for me: My sister routinely gets in touch at this time of year for a project she does. We don't really have much of a relationship and I don't like dealing with her project, but have gone along with it to keep the peace. This year I told her I wouldn't be participating...one of the reasons I decided I was done was the way she treated me this summer. So I also told her the reason. The best part of this for me is that i'm not expecting an apology because I've finally realized she doesn't know how or doesn't see her behavior as not nice.
I know there will be fallout for me speaking my mind finally, but I feel great having said what I feel, not keeping quiet to keep things peaceful.

This may sound silly because I feel like all my friends already do this, but I've bought myself a stack of nice matching bras and undies. Lacy, gorgeous, well made ones. I've never spent this kind of money on my underwear, but I'm surely enjoying the way it makes me feel on the inside as well as supported on the outside. I was sick of the beige bras and mom undies.
But if anyone wants to come clean my house, I won't argue! I hate cleaning with a mad hot passion!

I have a friend on Facebook who video'd the sound of a housecleaner vacuuming in her house. The joy and happiness her video recorded was wonderful. Sometimes we all need a big break and help like that. Good for you for doing this.

I've had someone come clean the house for years and years - since my oldest was a toddler. I've always worked full-time and cleaning is not something I've ever wanted to waste my weekends doing. Now that I'm sick, it's such a relief to have the help. As for what other things I have done for myself, I just made the last payment on my cruise in February. I went last year and had a great time. This time I'm not going to bunk with my sister and her family; I'm rooming with two other ladies so I'll have a bit more room and I'll still get to hang out with my sister and my niece. It's a chartered fan cruise so I'm not really going because it's a cruise. I wouldn't go on a regular cruise without all the fan events. I don't drink and I don't gamble and I think the food on cruises is mostly shit so there is no appeal other than the nerd events. But those nerd events are worth it.

The morning after we closed our show (I'm a HS lights & sound director) I treated myself to a hot stone massage and lunch with some close friends. It was lovely!

I’m a big believer in speaking my mind and find most people would rather quietly complain than speak up. Don’t wary about fallout. They will eventually come to respect you for it.

I’ve never had a house cleaner come to my house but I want to do it at least once. Since I don’t work outside the home, it would be a splurge for us, but I still want to try it. I’m pretty good at cleaning but rarely is the whole house scrubbed and all clean at the same time.
Maybe the first of the year, after I take the Christmas decorations down, I’ll hire one and start the new year off with a spotless home!

My mother bitched and whined for sixty years about the perceived slights from family members and never said a word to the people who were pissing her off. She went to her grave with hurt feelings and never had the spine to tell them to back off. In most cases she was right. I speak up (sometimes too soon) and rarely hold things in. Sometimes I get told why someone did the things they did and I can agree my perception was off and other times I get the satisfaction of getting it off my chest and putting some self absorbed person in their place. Either way I am not nursing a grudge twenty years later. I don't think anyone has to be an asshole just very straight forward about how the actions of someone is pissing you off. It makes all the difference in the stress you have to deal with. The bonus is that you aren’t feeling bad about the slights for the rest of your life.

I've been knitting things for myself. Normally, esp later in the year, I make things for everyone else. Decided to not do that this year. So in the past couple of weeks I've made a skirt (already worn it) and sweater( blocking right now) just for me. And the real surprise is that I don't feel guilty not knitting for others!

compwalla What type of Fan cruise is it? Sounds like fun! JoCo Cruise is very nerdy and the main performer is Jonathan Coulton. If you ever heard the alternate arrangement of "Baby Got Back" on Glee, that is his version. He mostly writes his own songs and is very talented. His songs range from silly to funny to sweet to sad and romantic. The cruise is him, a bunch of other performers and guests, and it's a week of official and shadow events so that no matter what your particular nerdery is, you can find things to do and people to do it with. My favorite event last year was Alexander Jamilton - a sing-along/jam-along with a bunch of Hamilton fans. There are official events, concerts, panels, and unofficial shadow events like at a convention but you live with the "talent" for the whole week. You may attend a panel of voice actors one day and end up in the hot tub with the panelist who voices GLaDOS that night. Or attend a reading by a favorite author and end up chatting with him in a bar later that day. It's amazeballs, really. Last time I waited for pizza with Patrick Rothfuss, talked about the show "Bletchley Park" with Cameron Esposito, sat next to Rebecca Sugar on a tender boat, talked about tattoos with Jean Grae, made friends with a story board artist from Bob's Burgers, and discussed dogs and politics with Wil Wheaton in the hot tub. Formal night is not just black tie. You may see someone in full dress Starfleet uniform or see someone with a hand-made jewel-encrusted mermaid costume. And pajama day is always fun. It's kind of like sleep-away camp for nerdy grown-ups because you're all together for a whole week, you bond with the other sea monkeys, and you have an experience that snorks and landlubbers just don't understand.
