When making a grad slideshow, how do you like to arrange the photos? Thanks!

When the pictures are chronological, I always feel compelled to pay strict attention, but when random, I can enjoy occasionally catching the photos.
I might be weird.

I voted random because it is less stressful to arrange.

Very few people will actually watch it, so may as well go with random.

Make it short! Please! Pretty please! Seriously 10 minutes or less.

I like random, too - both for watching, and for creating.

My first thought was chronological order. Then someone said "I'd feel compelled to actually pay attention."
But if it's played during the whole party, there's a clear start and end for people to watch. If they catch the end, they can watch the start and move on.
Then the next thought I had was, what about pictures from other sources (if you get some)? What if you don't know the date on them? Then random would be better.
Is this something I need to be thinking about for next year?!

Both. For my sons' open houses I had the slide show playing continuously with the music muted so anyone who wished could watch as much or as little as they chose and no one got sick of the music. I had a chronological part in the beginning -- a couple baby and toddler photos, then their school portraits from preschool through senior year in order because a lot of people seem to like to see that growing up transition. After that I put informal photos in loosely categorized groups -- a few with grandparents, cousins, other relatives over the years; sports and music activities; photos with friends. Overall I think it worked. Both adults and the grad's friends made their way to the family room to watch and comment on the photos.

Shuffle the photos. It makes it more interesting.
Skip music. No one will hear it.
Fast through the slides as they can watch again if they miss something. No one wants to stand and watch forever.
Don't mess with fancy transitions no one cares.

Thanks, everyone!
I started off with a few baby photos and then did random and ending with grad photos. I play it on a loop during the background of the party, so no one is forced to watch. Everyone loves them in my family, but i know that is different when its not your family member. I did do music, but set it on low.

I voted random. I made a slideshow last weekend for a friend's 50th birthday. I pondered whether to arrange the photos in chronological order or random, and in the end I went random. But I still had to take care when arranging the photos, because I didn't want to have too many from the same age together, or too many from the same event together, and too many with the same people together.

We did DS’s in chronological order from preschool graduation to high school graduation and at the end it went backwards from his first/last day of school photos until he was in K again. I was so glad I took those photos in the same spot every year! It was just one song long to Luke Bryan’s song “Fast”. We did a second song of just his baseball photos/videos since he’s been playing since he was five. The whole thing was pretty short and sweet. We served the cake just before turning it so everyone enjoyed that while watching.

My DDs school is so small they have a slideshow AT graduation. 5 photos each. I thought that this would be a question about that, I forgot you guys have big to-dos at your houses.

We just had a grad party for my dd and I just threw all the pics in a folder and played a slide show in random order. I did mix the photos up a bit so not all of the senior pics I had chosen were all in a row. I also didn't have any music playing. I just played the SS on the TV in the living room while everyone was in the dining room, kitchen, keeping / hearth room and outside. If anyone wanted to watch a few minutes it was just there playing kind of in the background.
We did a presentation of a slide show for the soccer banquet and each senior was allowed 5-8 photos. It went pretty quickly even with 13 seniors. That one was set to music and went pretty quickly.
