This is a breaking story on the BBC. We will find out what happened but how, just how is this possible?? BBC Two lions, two tigers and a jaguar have escaped from a zoo in Lünebach in western Germany, police have said. Local authorities advised residents to stay inside their homes and call the police if they saw any of the five predators at large. A bear had also escaped but has been shot. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-44332699

A little extra has been added, they were able to escape because of flooding as result of a storm.

Except that they shot the bear. They had escaped due to serious flooding. Poor animals.

I see they have all been recaptured so all is well. Good to hear, except for the loss of the bear.

Although I'm sorry about the bear, at least the other animals have been recaptured alive and no one has been hurt.

Poor bear. Did nothing wrong except get caught in an unfortunate situation. Thankful the others were able to be captured unharmed. I had no idea that flooding was taking place there.

I had no idea that flooding was taking place there. There was a lot of flash flooding in many parts of Germany overnight, as we had massive rain storms. The animals that escaped were all found on the zoo grounds - they just escaped from their cages, not the zoo itself.

Stupid animals. Now the judge is just going to add to their sentence. I'm sad about the bear. I wish they could have tranquilized him, instead.

I'm very sad about the bear. Why couldn't they have used a tranquilizer gun on him/her instead? And they were roaming around the zoo itself not out in public on the public streets. With that amount of flooding I would think the zoo would have been closed to visitors. So what danger would they have posed except to zoo officials who are used to handling wild animals?
I know it's easy for me to sit here in front of my computer after the fact, but I just really hate when things happen to wild animals who didn't ask to get locked up in a cage acting like a normal wild animal. I'm sure we all feel the same way about this bear today.

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! (I hope they can all be recaptured unharmed). Most of the animals never left the zoo, in fact, were in a corner of their enclosure where they were hidden fro zoo staff looking for them. One bear was shot after it escaped from the zoo and was in woodland near the town.
