I am SO SICK of creating online accounts and/or having to download apps to do the simplest things.
Like
1. Buy tires OR 2. Book a hotel
I don't need an account w/your company. I don't want a long-term relationship. This is strictly transactional stuff.
I don't need you taking all my data and then cross-referencing it w/the mountains of data already available on me, and then re-selling it back to the data merchants so they can know every freaking move I make.
Just let me go on your site, buy or book what I'm interested in, give you a credit card and an address and call it good.
ARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!

Yes! And can I add, I don't want to give out my phone number to every store I buy something from. I'm in your store in person. You don't need to call me.

I don’t want to give you my email.
I often just make up a fake one to surf the site.

I often check out as guest I used to do this as well. But lately, I'm noticing some companies are not giving this option. They're getting more and more interested in owning my data so they can sell it back and monetize the transaction. I'm going to set up a sh#($-ton of email addresses and burn through them if I need to because I will not add to the ever growing mountain of cross-referenced data just so I can buy play tickets, tires or a night in a hotel.

I usually say ‘I’m sorry, I don’t have a telephone.’ I love the reaction when the person thinks there is actually someone that doesn’t have a phone! I do have a phone, of course. I just do not give out my number to retailers or websites. In fact, I have my phone blocked for everyone except to 6 people...3 family members and 3 doctors. Everyone else can leave a message.

I don’t want to give them my email either. I don’t even want to waste the time giving out fake info. I just want to pay for my item & get out of there.

When I’m checking out at a register and they say, “and your email is?...” like it’s a requirement, not a request, I love to gush all gratefully and say “oh, no thank you!” as though they were offering ME something. Really confuses them.

I’m not setting up accounts look at your products and pricing.
As I was told by someone on this site- “what’s the big deal, just unsubscribe after looking at the site” the big deal is, they don’t need that information from me.
FYI- not an exact quote

I refuse to give out my phone number in stores that ask, as well as my email, unless it is absolutely necessary for my transaction (which is rarely). I'm also checking out more and more as a guest.

The people at my Michaels act like they are entitled to my email.
I had a bank teller from another bank try to get my social insurance number. Finally after she got the manager to try and get it from me I told her “Eff you you are getting it” and left. And I am quite certain she was miffed that I wouldn’t tell her. I was doing some banking for someone else. Yeah, no.

I had to make a credit card payment for my mom, for less than $10, and they wouldn’t process it without getting my ID info and occupation. I WORK for bank and had no idea just how invasive it’s gotten (I don’t deal with customers). It’s too much.

And I don’t want to give you an email address just for the privilege of browsing your site to see if I’m interested in your products!
Arrgghh! I don’t “need” your cleaning products if you are going to insist on knowing my email address before you will even show me what you are selling. You are not the Costco membership warehouse that I joined voluntarily AFTER checking out their products and services. I am not going to show you the equivalent of an online membership card to get into your website LOL.

I don’t want to give you my email. Me either! Even in shops they ask for it when you buy stuff and get snotty when you refuse. The last time I said no the salesman said "we don't pass your email on to anyone else" and I replied, "I'm not worried about anyone else, I don't want a hundred emails from YOUR business" Then the time I bought a steam mop and they wanted my address, again a man, again got shitty when I refused. He told me he needed my address for warranty purposes in case I needed to return it. So I asked him if I gave my address now and then moved in a month's time that would mean my warranty would be invalid? Of course he said "no"...so I told him in that case he didn't need a current address and just sell me the damn mop. Apple are the worst, they just about want you to hand over your firstborn child before they sell you something. I bought a light globe there and they wanted my email address, when I asked why he said to email my receipt, I asked him to print one instead and there was a big sigh and a lecture about going paperless...so I looked around and said with all the excess packaging you have on all your products, my little 2inch receipt isn't going to make any difference. Gah, seriously! I get that they only work on the floor and their company policy is to ask for these things, but when a customer says no, just move on and don't make it your life mission to get those personal details.

This is a good time to remind everybody to say HELLO when you answer the phone, at work or at home.
Never say yes
And never say “ yes this is Jane Smith”

Really confuses them. i do this too... "no thanks".... i get a blank stare from the 20 something at aerie who literally does not know how to respond. not long ago i tried to apply for a job at ikea head office. i had to create an ikea account to submit my resume. i was annoyed and didn't apply. if you give me the job and that's a requirement and need an ikea account, then i am game. if you aren't committed to me, i am not committing to you. my email address is on my resume, if you wanted to get in touch with me about employment.

If a site requires me to register and insert an email to browse, I just leave. They clearly don't want my business. For other things I have set up a "public" account where all the extraneous stuff goes --some things I like to keep an eye on. But I can ruffle through that list very quickly.

I'm really tired of going to a web page and having to click on a bunch of different boxes in order to get rid of them.

Really confuses them. I do this too! I'll say "Oh, you're so sweet, no thanks!" and they get that deer in the headlights look. Then they look at the register for a while, trying to figure out what to do next without my email address. It makes me giggle.

A simple "no thank you" at the register would suffice without a gushing, condescending remark about how sweet they are, don't you think?
I'm just thinking about how my DD was treated when she worked retail, by women who were old enough to be her mother and therefore know better. She's not just some dumb 20 something behind the register and she has rules to follow. "No thanks", move on.

I would like to try a bra from ThirdLove but after I took the questionnaire, they won’t give me the results for recommendations without my email! And judging from how many ads they have, I’d I ever purchased anything I would get a billion emails. So...I will stay away.

I'm assuming your DD doesn't do that. I respond in kind with a simple "no thanks" to someone obviously just doing their job. But when I am dealing with a snotty sales clerk, I am super nice and smile at them and act like they are being nice to me. I don't really think it's rude, it's more that I don't want their attitude infecting me. Not sure if that makes sense to you but I definitely don't go around abusing sales clerks...I too work with the public and have to deal with jackasses every day.
