Today was state level competition for LEGO league robotics. Our rookie team had a great day!
For both their skit and presentation (earned them an award last time) they did even better this time. They had the judges laughing and going over time asking more questions.
They had a great time hanging out together, they have become friends over this season.
The robotics part they struggled with all day. They were going too long and thought about scrapping Logan’s mission. The coaches brought it to the team. He and his partner were ok with it but the kids talked it out and one of the other kids figured another way to shave some time off so they could all contribute. I love how the coaches allowed them to discuss and decide for themselves and they came together to make it right for the team and the individuals. They ended up with a personal best!
They won the judges’ award. This is sometimes, but not always, presented to a team that stands out to the judges outside of the regular judging criteria. The presenter said they were enthusiastic and showed exemplary teamwork.
The lady who brought robotics to our school said her kid’s team won this award their rookie season. They’ve since gone on to win competitions. Exciting to think of the opportunities that await this team!
Today is/would be my 28th wedding anniversary. Not exactly how I would have preferred to spend it but it was perfect. It ended up being a really good day all the way around.
So proud of these kids and grateful for the coaches. They said the kids have learned so much more than robotics and I believe it. Watching Logan super focused, head in the game, at the same time coming alive, laughing with the other kids, it was beautiful.

They are clearly a great team, since they figured out a way to include everyone's part. That is seriously awesome!
I am so glad you enjoyed the day. I hope you had some happy thoughts of your time with Fred.
Hugs.

I hope you had some happy thoughts of your time with Fred. Hugs. They really are! I was so impressed. Logan is funny though. I asked later, did you understand why they almost had to scrap your mission? How would you have felt? I learned something about him. He said “I would be fine with it. I know it bothers people if happens to them, but I don’t care.” Where you or I might feel like we wasted our time and efforts, he enjoyed what he was doing while he was doing it. For him it really is about the journey. I had a couple of weepy moments. That surprised me bc I don’t often cry, my eyes may tear up but I had tears running down my face. But I was given a strange gift. The night before we were at STEM scouts. Talking with the moms I’m becoming friendly with, everyone is opening up and sharing. Not in a husband bashing way, but they both revealed that the men they married are not good husbands, not good fathers, not good men. I woke up yesterday morning understanding I was given a gift of perspective. Instead of just feeling sorry for myself, I also found myself thanking God for a husband who left me wishing for more time together.

However, your right, the adults involved can make a huge difference with how they handle it. In Highschool the adults were called mentors and a few of them at our school got a little too autocratic for a year and it hurt the team. Hang on to your excellent coaches as the get older they will allow the kids to innovate on thier own. Which is the whole point of robotics even more than ‘winning’ is. Sure winning is nice but seeing a problem & solving it with your team is the whole point. It is so wonderful that you have great coaches who listen to thier team! That’s really a wonderful thing! Congratulations to Logan & his team. Hugs to you.

We are so fortunate that they are the parents who stepped up. They have shepherded these kids so wonderfully.

😇. And thanks I think so too! ❤️ Do you follow #lifewithlogan on facebook? No, I don't do Facebook. Smart! On the other hand that means you’re missing out on gems like this. 😂 Logan is so funny. We were reflecting on what a great day he had. He attributes it to my “magic tripod.” At the robotics competition, the first couple of runs didn’t go as planned. I joked that it was my fault for not bringing in my tripod. I got it from the car, promising that now they would have a great run. Sure enough, they scored their personal best! “Logan you know it’s not really because of the tripod, right?” “But every time you use it, good things happen! Handbells, school plays... they’re all GREAT!” Because I bring my $20 monopod/selfie stick and attach my phone to it. Not that I happen to record when good things are happening. Give me and my magic tripod a call if you want a guaranteed win. Money talks. Maybe we can work something out. 😂 #lifewithlogan
