Anybody have any? I'm kind of getting in over my head.
I've been fostering dogs for a few years now but recently have gotten more active with it. I can't stand to hear that "URGENT: WILL BE EUTHANIZED TONIGHT" so when I can, I step up to give these babies a soft place to land. I'm a teacher on summer break and won't be able to keep doing what I'm doing when I go back to work.
Earlier this week I picked a dog up from the shelter who was covered in fleas. I spent an hour in the shower with him, lathering him up, picking off dead fleas, rinse, repeat. I've had him for three days and he is still scared to death. I may have seen a tiny bit of improvement tonight. He lets me hold him but I still have to use a towel to get him out of his crate. I think he was neglected and never had anyone to love him.
Today I offered to temp foster two tiny little chihuahuas because they were going to be euthanized tonight. I again spent an hour in the shower dealing with fleas. Oh how I hope I got them all. I am going to have them for just a few days. It was an emergency and their foster wasn't able to take them immediately.
My Blake was adopted back in April but was returned because the adoptive mom's health problems. She is on hospice now and couldn't care for him any longer. I had fostered Blake for almost three months before she adopted him and was glad to get him back. I ended up taking her other dog, Tulip, as well. My daughter now has Blake and I still have Tulip. I'm so happy that Blake is staying in the family.
I also have Camilla. She was also an urgent. She is a hot mess but I love her. She has an application for adoption and will have a meet and greet soon. I so hope this home is good for her.
Those are my current fosters. I also have dogs of my own.
Did ya'll know that the blue Dawn dishwashing liquid kills fleas?! It's awesome!
