I am always on the hunt for the elusive, perfect foundation. I like a medium coverage, more natural finish. I don't like really matte finish ones (Fenty didn't work at all for me), and I feel like if it's too "dewy", it just looks kind of greasy. Of course my favorite was discontinued (Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick). I don't know if it's the same formula as their regular double wear foundation, and always forget to go to an Estee Lauder counter and ask when I'm out somewhere that has one. I have one open and a backup, then I'll be out of it. I also like Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation a lot.
I'm not a fan of the It Cosmetics CC cream. I've tried multiple ways to apply it, and it just never looks right on me. I am going to give it to my niece when I see her in a couple weeks.
I've tried a handful of other ones that either I don't like at all, or are just ok. A lot of times I like how it looks in the mirror over the sink, (so a few feet away), but when I look in my lighted makeup mirror (super close up), I'm not so happy.
I got an email from Ulta today with 7x points on foundation, so thought I'd take a look again.

I've been wearing Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk for several years now and really like it. Medium coverage, plus it is buildable so you can put a little more where you need it. Has a really nice natural finish.

I have tried so many foundations looking for my holy grail! My current two top favorites are Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation. Both are natural skin-like finishes. I highly recommend both of them. Unfortunately Ulta doesn't carry either of these brands. Sephora does but online only so it can be difficult to shade match. I found the Estee Lauder Double wear to be way too heavy and too matte. I hate that foundation!

I like the ELauder Double Wear. My favorite by far.

A note on the Giorgio Armani foundation. The L'Oreal True Match Lumi is touted as a very good dupe for the GA (made by the same company). DD wears the True Match Lumi during the week because it is less expensive and it looks good. So if you can't find GA, or don't want to pay that much, then consider the True Match Lumi.

I'm on my second bottle of MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation. It's not too heavy or drying and doesn't have the matter or super dewey finish. I like the good but natural coverage.

I had heard that was a good dupe for the Armani Luminous Silk. I looked into it but unfortunately they didn't have a shade for me in the L'oreal True Match Lumi. The shades were too dark/orange. I have fair cool skin and wear shade 3.75 in the Armani.

I recently started wearing the Estee Lauder Double Wear and REALLY like it. I tried It cosmetics and hated it despite rave reviews from several of .my friends. I personally think it settles in creases and ages most people who I know that wear it. Before switching to the EL, I was using Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup. It is buildable which I like but it wore off throughout the day and I had to use quite a bit of foundation to get the coverage I need for my red undertones. Nothing can beat the EL longevity or the small amount of product I have to use to get the coverage I want. I typically still have a lot of makeup on when I wash my face at night after wearing it all day. I've never had a foundation that is as long wearing.

What you say about the Estee Lauder makes me think that the one in the cushion stick is a different formula because it's not heavy or matte at all. I've heard good reviews on youtube about the Armani foundation. Charlotte Tilbury stuff always seems to review well. Both of those brands are carried at my local Nordstrom, so I might take a drive over there later and check them out. I hate trying to shade match online.

Has a really nice natural finish. This is my favorite as well, when I want “real” foundation. Best by far that I’ve used. If I want something more sheer (also buildable not I usually don’t), I like AmorePacific’s cushion.

I’ve been an Estée Lauder Double Wear fan for several years. I do try new one as they come out for different brands, but I always stick with my DW.
They do have a “nude” version that is a bit more natural coverage.
Girl get to that makeup counter and get some samples!

I try a lot of foundation and like LaMer the best. It’s expensive but I get $100 of it covered by gift cards for being Rouge at Sephora. I seriously love it. I also have Sulawasoo. Guerlain isn’t bad. It CC Cream is good as is Hourglass stick foundation.

Don't ya just hate that when you find something you like and then they discontinue it? Grrrr! I had a lancome foundation I loved but then I couldn't find it. The closest one made my skin break out. A gal at Sephora recommended Christian Dior star studio s ok mething or another. Well, the next time I went back. They didn't have it. I have to travel at least 100 miles for the closest major department store since Herberger's closed. Now I have Diorskin forever undercover foundation.
My dd has benefit hello happy flawless brightening foundation. Looks smooth and even. I'm tempted to try it.

I have fair cool skin and wear shade 3.75 in the Armani. DD has the opposite problem. One of the Lumi shades is perfect for her, while the GA requires that she mix 2 different shades to get a perfect match. I forget what her number is though. Her coloring is totally different from mine. I wear a 4 in GA.

Clinique Even Better SPF 15. I tried this after I had given up on IT CC makeup. It was far too heavy and settled in my lines and magnified my pores. I'm on my second bottle of the Clinique and it's perfect for me, covers up all my freckles and sun/age spots and leaves a nice easy finish.

My current favorite is Neutrogena HydroBoost Hydrating Tint. It smooths my complexion & looks natural, even after hours of wear & my pink cheeks peek through. Plus, it's relatively inexpensive & available at Target; no special trip to a department store counter or beauty store needed.
Hope you find a foundation that works for you!

While you’re all here, what is the best way to apply foundation? Fingers, brush or blender sponge? I need decent coverage but I hate a thick layer of foundation.

For example, I wear a cream foundation & prefer to apply it with a flat top brush & concealers with a smaller flat top brush.

My current favorite is drugstore. I love L’Oréal Infalliable and have been wearing it exclusively. It’s very long wearing. Love it! I love that foundation! My husband is an engineer who designs dispencers and brings home different makeup all the time. I have found some great drugstore foundation that way. I have oily skin on my t zone, especially my nose. The matte version of the Infalliable line works great on my skin! For non-drugstore brand, I've been wearing Tarte face tape lately.

I've tried a couple different brushes, and when I do use one, I use a kabuki type or an It Cosmetics heart shaped foundation brush. I always end up going over spots with a damp beauty blender when I use a brush though. I'm a fan of the Beauty Blender brand sponge. I like how they feel better than other ones I've tried, I use their liquid cleanser and they last forever. I love to stock up when Sephora has the holiday sets and beautyblender.com has some good deals sometimes.

Chanel Perfection Lumiere....hands down my favorite. Some Ultas carry it, but not all of them.
Natural, doesn’t settle in my lines or magnify my pores. Wears all day for me. They recommend you apply it with your fingers, which is a bonus to me...much quicker. I love how small the bottle is too. It’s an ounce but early half the size of the other brands. It’s plastic and so easy to travel with.

While you’re all here, what is the best way to apply foundation? The Clarisonic Foundation Makeup Brush Head. Gives me a really smooth finish. Prior to that I used the Laura Mercier makeup sponges. I find that I use less foundation with the Clarisonic and get a better finish.

I agree with others who suggested a damp beauty blender. A brush will usually give you more coverage because it doesn't absorb some of the product like a sponge. You could also add some of your moisturizer to the foundation to make kind of a lighter foundation or a tinted moisturizer kind of consistency. You might also like a setting spray over your foundation and powder. It softens the look and makes it last longer.

I love Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating Foundation. I had been wearing Two Faced which I liked but borrowed my daughter's Smashbox once and loved it. It is long wearing, buildable but not really matte or cakey at all (and not too dewy). I am 54 with dry skin and it never settles into pores etc and it really does last. I wear it with a primer first, apply with my fingers then go over with a damp blender sponge. I find that the sponge doesn't absorb too much foundation that way.

The same way you like your steak cooked. It’s totally individual. BFF( amblet) uses fingertips. I have brushes and a sponge. I put some on the back of my hand and apply from it. Fingertips can give you very nice coverage. I have 5 foundation brushes and they always need to be washed. They are amazing, though. I also have bunch of beauty blenders and I am picking up a Sonia Kashuk sponge next weekend from BFF.

I’ve been using Smith & Cult the last few months. I love it. It is not heavy at all, but covers very well. I haven’t been happy with a foundation in years until I discovered this brand.
