DH and I are on our annual road trip to visit our moms. First stop is Nashville (where I am today) and Wednesday we are scheduled to arrive in Atlantic Beach NC. Of course that's probably when Dorian is going to visit also. We actually planned this trip to spend more time in NC since we'll see MIL again in November. Fuckity fuck, even got a hotel on the beach. Here's hoping he takes his ass out to sea.

Ugh. That's about all I've got.
Also, I didn't realize Dorian was a "he"....The only person I know with that name is a woman! lol
Hopefully everyone stays safe!

Dorian is a he. Chantal was the C name and Erin will be the E.
I'm sorry the storm is headed to where you are going. We definitely don't want another storm along our coast but it is often what we get. I call fall 'dodge the hurricane' season and we often make very last minute plans. We want to make a trip to the SC coast this month but will have to see what the storm leaves behind.
I seldom book much in advance anymore but in January I booked Memorial Day week for my favorite condo on Hilton Head. And then we had a heat wave. Most of each day was miserable. You had to go out at daybreak and be in by about 10 am and then not go back out until early evening. I'm back to doing last minute planning. I feel bad for their tourism. After a miserable Memorial Day week and a very stormy Labor Day week, it hasn't been the best season.

Tropical storm Erin was actually already named and fizzled out to sea...

We're headed to Kitty Hawk this coming Friday. It's our first trip to the Outer Banks. We're really nervous, wondering if we should cancel and go elsewhere. Ugh.
Hope both our trips go well. Hope everyone is safe.

I'm headed to Fripp Island on Saturday for a week with college girlfriends. It'll be long passed by then, but no telling what it will leave behind. This happened to our group last year at the same time. Always a risk during hurricane season.
I hope this storm stays out to sea and no one gets any really bad effects from it.

I think I'd cancel any plans to visit the Southeast coast this week. Even if it fizzles, the rain would preclude the beach/outdoor time folks would hope for.

Hope everyone is safe. I live 2.5 hours from Kitty Hawk and if the storm tracks more towards the Carolinas, there’s no way you’re going to make it to the outer banks. I would not be surprised if they issue a mandatory evacuation this week if the track stays the same, just be aware. I would personally cancel. I’m expecting us to miss at least one day of school (Friday) and it’s the first week 🤦🏽♀️

We’re going to cooling our heels in Tennessee at this point. Hate wasting this trip and not seeing my mom as planned.

So sorry you have to change your plans but it's certainly a wise choice. The latest spaghetti models show it coming closer to the NC coast and making a landfall there.

Even a “minor” brush is going to be problematic here, so many haven’t fully recovered from Matthew and Florence sadly. There are still so many houses and some schools with tarps for roofs. Our next door neighbors just moved back into their house last week; and there are new disturbances out there to keep an eye on too...c’mon Dorian, PIVOT!

Hope everyone is safe. Just an FYI, as I figured, the outer banks are being evacuated and all tourists have been told to leave. We are expecting the storm Thursday night/early friday morning in this area so I would definitely make sure you cancel your plans and hopefully get your money back.

Thanks for the advice everyone. We've cancelled, and fortunately not lost any money.
My husband really wants to go to the Outer Banks for some reason. This is our third attempt. In spite of it being various times of the year, this is the third time we've had to cancel due to the weather. I keep telling him we need to stick to Mexico.lol
Anyway thanks again. Hope everyone is safe.

We already knew we wouldn't be able to go, but the hotel beat me to it and called to let me know my reservation was cancelled since they were shutting down.

And if you're open to a little unsolicited advice, I'd go a little bit south or north of Kitty Hawk - Nags Head or south on Hatteras or north somewhere in Duck or Corolla. The beaches in Kitty Hawk can be quite narrow and it's also more crowded than some of the other areas. But there are also a lot of restaurants and stores so if you want that sort of vibe, Kitty Hawk might be perfect!
