That poor woman. Lost her sweet babies. Betrayed by her husband. Vilified by a nation. Imprisoned for hideous crimes she was innocent of. Most likely picked out for special mistreatment by the actual criminals who like to think they are better than some of their fellow inmates.

I’m so sorry. I just lost my youngest sister to cancer. The numbness will help you function now. A lot of serious grieving to come later on.

Apples. Lately, Cosmic Crisp variety is my favorite.
Steamed summer squash, especially this one kind that is yellow and round. It’s so very good, I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Spaghetti marinara. With mushrooms. And lots of garlic.

My favorite childhood book was biographical: Carry On, Mr. Bowditch. Biographies were my favorites and this one was special.
I also devoured all the Little House books
The Ballet Shoes and others in that wonderful series
Everything by Louisa May Alcott
The Outsiders made a huge impact on me. I read her other books, but it was this one that really hit hard.
Watership Down
Tuck Everlasting
A Tree Grows In Brooklyn
All the Tolkien Books. As a young teen, the group I was a part of were all obsessed by the world and characters of Tolkien. We called each other by names taken from the books. I almost forgot my best friend was named Gayle, for years I only knew her as Gimli. .( I was Legolas, btw. )

lucyg I’m sorry to hear of your diagnosis. You are such a treasured member of our Pea Family. I can only say I hope you’re like my dad, who outlived his doctor’s prognosis by a decade. So far. As for the woe is me issue: Bunions. Cataracts. Age spots. Balance issues. Hearing loss and tinnitus. Skin so dry and flaky it’s embarrassing, even though I use lotion. Hair thinning. Fingernail waviness. Strength disappearing rapidly. Several painful falls. It just feels like the minute I started receiving social security all these aging issues just started showing up. Like one day I wasn’t old. The next day I was.

I’ve been away and just saw your thread. My heart goes out to you.
This is so hard. So very hard. I spent my DD’s entire adolescence and most of her 20’s expecting one of her suicide attempts to eventually succeed. Her most recent serious one was 4 years ago.
But she’ll turn 40 this summer. And she is in a stable relationship with a good person, and has a good job. I’m so very grateful to get this far. And she and I have a close, honest relationship. She can tell me what she thinks, and know I won’t overreact. And I support her decisions about her life, even when they are not what I would do.
It wasn’t easy to get to here, and there has been enormous anguish along the way.
The biggest factor in making this a success for me has been working on myself. Strengthening myself. Knowing that while I could be a source of comfort and stability to my daughter, I could not live her life for her, and ultimately, I had to be strong enough for any outcome. When I got to that point, something changed in me. It’s not that I was no longer terrified, but there was also a calm place inside me.
I believe this change in me, in addition to helping my mental health, improved my relations with DD.
Right now, though, I send my most heartfelt thoughts for your shock and worry.

I had great hopes once the SS kicked in, but chronic vestibular migraine is severely limiting my life currently.
I am grateful that I’m not having to worry about a job and bills, or running after kids while dealing with this. Also that I have health insurance, and a loving family.
but I really want to be traveling, hiking, and just generally exploring my activity options.

I will absolutely second @minima re: Sharon Kay Penman. My favorite author. If you love to read to enjoy the artful use of the English language, to be transported to another place and time. To find yourself caring about people you never imagined you could, then start by picking up Here Be Dragons. While it’s not the first chronologically, for me it was the gateway book into the twelfth century and those crazy Plantagenets.
We lost Sharon a few years ago, but she left behind an unmatched body of work in terms of accuracy, style, and incredible content.

I really like Tana French for the same reason I like Gabaldon, the quality of the writing. Most of her books are in the loosely connected Dublin Murder Squad Series, but she has a couple completely stand alone. Including The Searcher , which I am currently reading, and totally enjoying.

Yes, a bone bruise takes quite awhile to heal. That must have hurt like you know what! It should be easing off, but if it doesn't in the next couple of weeks, have it checked out again. {{Hugs}} What she said. Bruised bone takes a long time to recover. I had a place on my ankle/lower calf that took over a year. And I hit my head on the top of my head so often, there’s this one place that is just always sore and swollen.

I responded with Yay, however, there's lots of tie-dye out there that I wouldn't wear. I'm more of a two color dyed fan. I also have a Haight-Ashbury sweat shirt, so some make want to take my preference with a grain of salt, lol. And, I'm not dirty. Right? It’s been a while since I heard a reference to “dirty hippies”.

If it’s a true fluff piece, or some silly show like 911, 911 Lonestar (even worse), or Chicago’s… I don’t pay any attention to that stuff. It’s a distraction from real life. Now, if it’s a medical show, I do expect them to be a little more careful about what they portray. We were watching Chicago Med last night, and there was a diagnosis that we thought was absolutely ridiculous, so we Googled it. Come to find out, it was a real thing, and her description of it was 100% correct. Now, if I saw the Statue of Liberty on the beach in CA, I’d change the channel. LOL You can’t dangle that in front of us and not share!

You’ve made me think of the scene in Steel Magnolias when Shelby’s blood sugar dips too low. Yeah, insulin at that point would have finished the woman off.
I totally get distracted by mistakes in movies of TV shows like that.
Sorry about your nightmare.

I visit Seattle frequently m so if something goes wrong while there, J P Beaumont would solve my murder while having interesting internal monologue.
But maybe I’ll travel to London, and then it will be Lynley and Barbara complementing each other with their differences.

I’m glad people mentioned not to ice. While it’s nice for swelling, it inhibits blood flow, which you need. In addition to protein and lots of water, you want dark leafy greens, they are important in your healing.
The website Christine linked above is so helpful. If you sign up, you can see examples of other people’s healing processes, which I found very very helpful. Doctors tend to show examples of certain body types, or ages, or more straightforward healers. Seeing the healing process of many different women of all different types helped me feel confident.

I love using them and wish it wouldn’t be weird to use on non Asian food.
I tend to eat to fast, first as a child I wanted done and away from that table and the abusive atmosphere. Later, I was always in a hurry, multitasking, so I never broke the fast eating habit. Chopsticks help me slow down a little.

The performance was good but I think it was kind of silly that she walked the red carpet in full glam and then scrubbed it all off for her song. Yeah, I saw pictures of her on the red carpet, so I don't know why she took all that off for her performance. I really agree with Gaga’s decision that the song needed a stripped down and raw artist singing it. I agree with previous posters that the program tonight was joyful, it made me want to go see several of these movies. It made me happy for most of the winners. I enjoyed the performances. I always love Jimmy Kimmel. I’m glad they brought back the categories they took out last year.

I thought of a couple more: I don't let my dog off the leash at the river in summer, in case he gets bitten by a deadly tiger or eastern brown snake. We've had friends who have lost their dogs to snake bites. And when I'm walking in summer, I make sure to stay on the path, and watch very carefully. A couple of weeks ago, I was walking in a state park, and there was a huge male kangaroo standing on the path. It seemed that he was NOT going to move for me. I had to toss up between walking around him into the grass where there might be deadly snakes, or to keep walking on the path and risk being kicked or punched by an angry roo! (FTR, I risked a snake bite.) Friends in Sydney make sure they cover the opening to all shoes left outside, in case a Sydney Funnel Web spider crawls inside. Luckily there haven't been any deaths from these particular spiders since the antivenom was created in the 80s, but still...... you don't want to be bitten by one. Interesting. I am currently reading a book called Venom, about a researcher who spent many years gathering venom from many Australian snakes for research and antivenin development. He’s very passionate about his work even though he’s been bitten several scary times.

We don’t live far from each other, so if you close your eyes and listen, you should be able to hear me applauding you from my home for your restraint and high mindedness. I do believe we reap what we sow in this world, ( others call it Karma ), and you have earned a bunch.
You’re a good friend.
