I would like to nominate Kaitlyn Vallery Foundation (aka Kaitlyn's Promise)
We established Kaitlyn’s Promise to help more adults and teens understand the dangers of inhalant abuse and the consequences of making bad choices when Kaitlyn died due to accidental drowning because of inhalant abuse
As of 2014, we are now the Kaitlyn Vallery Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to bring awareness of the dangers of drug use and the long reaching effects of your choices.
We provide the following resources to young people and their families:
- • Kaitlyn’s family helps educate others by sharing her story with young people through presentations at schools in Houston and the surrounding area.
• We provide free drug screenings to parents who suspect their children may be using illegal drugs but are unable to afford the cost.
• We also offer three $1000 scholarships to local high school students who successfully rose above poor choices – theirs or others – and changed their lives for the better. Previous recipients overcame their own or their parents’ drug use, survived serious illnesses, and are on their own as a result of their parents’ actions.
If her promise can get just one kid to STOP doing this then Kaitlyn’s death will not have been in vain.
Full disclosure .. I am Kaitlyn's mom and a long time pea (though I mostly lurk.. some of you may remember the night we lost her .. we received so much love and support from the Peas, my family still talks about it)
To date we have given over $40,000 in scholarships, spoken to thousands of students and continue to share Kaitlyn's life in the hopes that we prevent another family from going through what we have gone through

HelenaJole aren't you in Tacoma? Do you go there often?
She is an extremely talented pea; a true artist!
I am in Tacoma! (Well, University Place, but close enough.) I've only been in there once, actually. Briefly. Sounds like I'll have to check out the one in Puyallup. There is a pretty nice craft store called Artco in Tacoma. Ohhh just added this to our things to do when we are in Tacoma next week ... trying to talk the boys into going to TM too .. they do not seem thrilled 🤣

Does anyone know the backstory of Boobie Gate ?? AND can both sides agree Joe Buck is an ass and should not be allowed to talk EVER GO ASTROS insert code here I don’t know the backstory or why they did it, but wow, those two women behind home plate who flashed the pitcher—bold or drunk, not sure which. I think one was some kind of instgram or other social media “star.” ETA I was curious what happened to them, and apparently they have been banned by MLB for violating the fan code of conduct. MLB says they were promoting a business, but the women say they were raising breast cancer awareness. abc13.com/sports/women-flash-gerrit-cole-during-game-5-get-banned-forever/5653116/ I so want to hit buy on tickets for tonight ..BUT Jon is on call and we are on a temp spending freeze .. BUT MAN .. I want to be down there tonight so bad

Not so much a mistake .. but a “decision” when our 16 yo daughter Kaitlyn got off probation and had been sober for 18 months we decided to stop the random drug test because they were “too expensive”. I am not a what if kind of person ..but every once in a while I do have those moments. 6 months later she died because of her drug use and we now give away free drug test through our foundation to anyone that asks for them Cheri www.kaitlynspromise.com

Hi there .. We are planning our 12th Kaitlyn's Crop benefitting The Kaitlyn Vallery Foundation It is happening July 12 - 14 2018 in Spring TX (just north of Houston) Our theme this year is Scrappin' Through the Decades We only have 6 seats left but would love to add to our Pea Group that comes each year !! I'm new to this board and I'm looking over everything and I saw this post. Obviously this one is in the past but I went to the website. What a sad and touching story, and a beautiful purpose. I'm bookmarking the 2020 event- it looks wonderful! We would love to meet you and have you join in the fun 💜💜

Short back story - I lived in a neighbourhood for 10 years. My neighbor is awesome and we are good friends. We moved overseas for 6 years. We just bought the house next door to our other house. The new one is bigger and has a saltwater pool. We bought the house in May, but only moved in last week. I told my neighbor she and her family could use the pool anytime. She learned how to take care of the pool and when we returned gave us all the paperwork and receipts from the pool store. She spent almost $400 on chemicals - mostly because the previous owner had turned off the salt flow and the pool became murky. Of course I tried to reimburse her but she’s refusing to accept the check. She feels like it’s payment for allowing them to use the pool for a couple of months. I feel like costs relating to my pool are my responsibility and I would never have invited her to use the pool if I had known how much it would cost her. So, I don’t want her to be $400 out of pocket but she refuses to accept the money. We are going to invite her family out for dinner as a thank you, but I still feel guilty about the money. WWTPD? A wise man (my awesome daddy) once told me that accepting graciously is a very important skill to have .. take them to a very nice dinner .. say thank you with meaning and appreciate your friends generosity .. 💜

I met many of the Houston Peas at Pea get togethers when I was living in Houston. Now that I'm living in OK, I wish we could have an Oklahoma pea get together. I usually go to Kaitlyn's Crop and sit in the pea corner. (Unfortunately, I can't go this year). We always have a great time and I consider some of the peas to be really good friends. (I'm talking about you, **GypsyGirl** !) You are the sweetest! I'm missing Kaitlyn's Crop this year as well, but hope to pop in for a couple of hours to visit one afternoon. Several peas come from out of town each year so it's the only chance I have to visit with them. dewryce - We might have met then because I was attending all the crops in that time frame. I would have been sitting with Cara in TX and the other peas. cherivall usually kept us sequestered in a corner somewhere because we had a tendency to be a bit rowdy! dewryce is was the very first one in 2007 <3 **GypsyGirl** and auntkelly I am still not dealing with the fact you two will not be there next weekend

I think it is insensitive to the other parents. Like her child was a chosen one, and the rest are not. THIS 1000000000000000%

Super cute! You really aren’t going to find a better price than 60 sheets for $10. the price is AWESOME . but we only need a few of the patterns from the pack for our project which is why I was looking for a close substitute .. BUT we had a fairy godmother that has helped make it happen and we are all set to go for the crop !!! #PEASAREAWESOME Cheri

Good Morning .. I am in need of the power of the peas to help me find patterned paper to use for a project at our summer event The theme is scrappin' rodeo and we are doing two photo ops ... one will the traditional rodeo them and the other will be more of Cowboy Chic (think Junque Gypsy) I found this paper pack at Hobby Lobby BoHo Vibes that would be PERFECT but even on sale it is kinda of pricey for the project .. Anyone know of any lines that have the same feel that I can buy individual sheets Thanks y'all <3 Cheri

I will admit I used to judge. I used to think people using drugs were just weak. I lost my 26 year old niece to addiction 6 months ago. I was at her side along with my dad at the hospital and watched her take her last breath. Just typing this makes me tear up. I will never judge addicts like I used to again, because going through it with someone you love you realize it is an a disease. A horrible, awful disease that robs people of willpower, hope, drive and so much more. My niece was a different person using the drugs. She gave up on life. One of the worst parts for me has been mourning what might have been. The life we had all hoped would happen for her, now never will. This .. word for word . Except it was my daughter.. especially the what might have been 💔 .. I am so sorry for your loss ..

THANK YOU all so very much ..
I think I am going to go with the middle option .. I am totally OK wearing readers as needed BUT do not want to have to deal with adjusting to the near/far issue
I have never been so happy to hear I have "old" issues like I was when I heard I had cataracts !!!
My first surgery is scheduled for June 10th and the second one is scheduled for June 24 and I cannot wait to walk into ANY store I want and buy ANY pair of sunglasses that catch my eye !!
Cheri
PS I am an accountant and will be out of work 2 days

I a need to have cataract surgery and have three options .. from basic removal and still have to where glasses to completely getting rid of having to wear glasses .. I am leaning toward the never wearing glasses option but would like real reviews if anyone has had this done ..
I am 55 and have been wearing glasses since I was in 3rd grade so the thought of not having them is very exciting .. but if the risk of even worse vision is there, I will just do the basic surgery and just keep my glasses
Thanks y’all 💜

There's no nearby Nar-anon, and this is all pretty new to me.
Plenty of Al-anon chapters are close by. Should I give them a try?
Online communities/resources?
Thanks.
YES ... get to al anon ... it will be hard and uncomfotable at first .. but you will learn so much 💔💜

I still think about the heartbreaking passing of Kaitlyn. I can't believe that was almost 13 years ago. I hope her family is doing well! I think the pea whose daughter had a tragic motorcycle wreck posts here? I think her dd's name is Nicole, the post above mine reminded me of her. So much sadness but she is an amazing mother. And I've always been touched by how caring and supportive the peas are in times of need. we are doing good .. we miss her daily but try to find joy in every day . Jeremy is now married, living in Tacoma WA where he is super busy with his brand new business .. (he is THIRTY .. how the hell do I have a THIRTY YEAR OLD) We are getting ready to have our annual crop (which this year is happening TWICE) and just trying to help as many kids/families as we can <3

I am smiling reading all of these post (both good and bad memories) and realize how much I miss them
My BEST (and worst) memory of the old board was the love and support we got after Kaitlyn died .. I truly felt each and everyone of you that were "with" us that horrible night .. and it is something that our family will never forget .. good bad or ugly I LOVE my 2Peas family <3
