Today is election day in the UK and as a result the news channels can't cover politics until the polls close at 10.00pm.
This means they are looking around for something else to talk about and the story of a couple getting rid of a boiler they bought back in the 60's for £200 led to people sharing the age of their oldest appliance.
How old is your oldest appliance and is it still used regularly? I have a face steamer thing from the eighties but it was rarely used so not in the same category as the boiler.

Large home appliance? 11 years, when we purchased our home. Small appliance? I think we still have the fondue pot from when we married 24 years ago.

Our oldest major appliances are only 11 years old as we have replaced everything since moving in here (fridge, stove, dishwasher, washer & dryer).
I've never considered the furnace to be an appliance (equivalent of the boiler ??). It is original to the house, so would be 35 years old.
Our oldest small appliance is my Cuisinart food processor at 35+ years and it gets used regularly.

Coffee peculator from 1962 wedding. I may have others from that time also but that is what comes to mind. I recently loaned it to a friend and had to find him one at a thrift store before he would give it back

Kitchen aid mixer bought in either 1999 or 2000. Once we move back to the US I plan to upgrade it whether it’s dead or not.

Our dishwasher is probably almost 30 years old. I use only a couple times a year. With just two of, it's often easier to just hand wash dishes. We will get around to replacing it someday.

My washing machine is about 12 years old which is pretty good going I think! Trouble is it doesn’t have the settings I’d like now (30 degree wash etc) so I kind of hope it gives up soon! 😉

I don't consider our furnace (boiler) to be an "appliance" exactly....but it would be that if you want to count it. We've lived in this house for 20 years and it was here when we moved in. If we're talking about a regular appliance then it would probably be the stove and refrigerator, both of which we bought about 15 years ago. Also, unrelated to the topic of this thread...there must be other Americans here who are amazed by the OP's first sentence... "Today is election day in the UK and as a result the news channels can't cover politics until the polls close at 10.00pm." Can you (Americans) imagine our news broadcasts if we had that rule. omg.... Wouldn't that be wonderful???

My stove, refrigerator, washer & dryer were all purchased the same year - 1986
They all work fine but the fridge probably needs replacing since I have noticed it has started cracking on the interior

A GE refrigerator originally owned by MIL--1949. She had an energy audit done by PGE in the early 2000s and they told her it was more energy efficient than anything you could buy then due to its' very thick walls. We have it in the garage as our 2nd refrigerator/freezer, so used on a daily basis. The only thing I don't like about it is having to defrost it, but we only have to do that once a year. We also have a Hamilton Beach stand mixer from about the same time, the original bowls it came with--it works and I use it, but that thing weighs a ton. We also have the instruction books that came with both--they are quite a read and you get the gist of how women were looked at back then.

I love the differences in our language! In the US, most furnaces are natural gas, electric, or if you live in the country, it may be liquid propane. So, is your boiler what you heat your home with? My BFF has one from the 1950's.

I have a curling iron that is about 20 years old. Still works fine too, though I recently bought an interchangeable set so I'll probably get rid of it soon. I was just thinking yesterday that my crock pot is getting up there in years, it's about 15 years old, I got it after I moved in with my husband in 2003.

It needs no water tank in the attic, just heats water on demand. It's newish, we upgraded it ten years or so ago.

All my major appliances are original to my home built in 2006. I keep hoping everyday that my dishwasher will break because it's so loud, but it just keeps going! I hope my washer never dies. It's the old school top loader with agitator and i love it!

Our fridge was given to us 11 years ago, and the woman who gave it to us had it for several years. I’ve been very pleased with it and it shows no signs of wearing out.
We bought my kitchenaid mixer at a flea market. We believe it’s from the 70s.

When I bought my house in 2004, it came with the most basic Kenmore dishwasher. It’s loud, but it works terrific. I recommend using Cascade Platinum tabs. It cleans everything sparkly.

In our house it’s probably the furnace which is original to the house, so 37 years old, followed closely by the A/C (35 years old). For smaller things, probably the Little Oscar mini food processor that someone gave us for our wedding 30 years ago.

I don’t have anything old, since my house isn’t quite 10 years old yet. But my grandma just died this past May, and she still had her sewing machine from the 60s. It was an appliance to her for sure, always set up and available to fix anything up, and used all the time. I already had a machine myself (oh, mine is 20 years old, so that’s my oldest appliance!) or I would have taken hers.

I have all new major appliances since we're in a major remodel. My kitchen aid mixer is circa 1988 and is my companion. It's made several moves and been thru 2 divorces with me. I'm sure if I have to replace it, the new one won't be nearly as durable.

I have a short freezer (fits under the counter in my laundry room) that I have had for maybe 25 years - and I bought it from my sister who had it for years before that.

The only thing I can think of is my mom's sewing machine.. but it doesn't get used. I am getting it out soon to see if I can even fire her up. I believe it is from the early to mid 60s.
I do have a bunt pan in the box from the 50s. Not really an applicance... and a Goody hair brush that I have had since the 80s. (yeah, not appliances...lol)

From research I had to do a few years ago when we replaced a part, my oven/ stove is from 1992 (it came with the house). The energy audit guy we had here when we moved in, guessed our water heater is from the 90s also. The house was built in 1978. The dishwasher that came with the house was also from 1992 but it broke .

Our dishwasher is original to the house, which makes it about 22 years old.

I believe my mother got her Bosch kitchen machine in the early 80's, and it's still going strong. I think she has replaced the whisks once. It has a brown bowl in sort of a donut shape which always annoyed me. I like a regular bowl.
The oldest electrical thing I can think of that I own is an iPod Nano mp3-player that I got as a present in 2008. I use it daily to listen to podcasts and music while commuting to work and doing housework. It only recently started becoming difficult to transfer new files onto it, but I suspect that has more to do with Apple not doing updates to iTunes. I have gotten a LOT of mileage out of this thing!

I wish American news would do this! My fridge was 20 years old, but we just replaced it because we just knew it would break down. I just replaced my dryer because it broke the day before Thanksgiving. It was 10 years old. So I guess my oldest appliance is my 10 year old washer.

We bought used washer and dryer from coworker of DH in spring 1991. Had to replace the washer a few years ago, but still using the dryer. I found the paperwork given to us when we bought it, and the dryer was originally purchased in December 1968. It is a no frills, Lady Kenmore. It has a knob 1-8 based on how dry you want, and an air or heat button. It is loud, but still dries pretty well. I joke that my laundry room looks like a before and after photo with a new washer and really old dryer. The guys that delivered my new washer, and the movers we used loved it.

We are still using our 1993 Kenmore dryer. We had to replace the matching washer about 3 years ago.
I also have my MIL's Singer sewing machine, which is vintage late 50s or early 60s (my mom has a similar machine that I know was purchased in the early 60s by my grandmother). My Kenmore sewing machine is from the mid-90s.
