As of today at mostly 9 am my state is allowing the sale for recreational use marijuana.
Any recommendations?
No judgments please.

From what my neighbor tells me, the sales people are super knowledgeable and can make a recommendation to you based on what your needs are. They are well versed in how each strain performs and can guide you with your purchase. Just let them know you are new at this and I bet they will take the time to explain the anticipated benefits of the various kinds.
My neighbors both use daily, the husband for pain and the wife to reduce her anxiety. She gets edibles. I’m in California where it is also legal, but my doctor told me that I can’t partake since I am currently on opioids for chronic pain and it would be dangerous for me. I even considered switching to marijuana instead of opioids just to try it but it wouldn’t be covered by my insurance whereas my morphine is. I only pay $15 for a month’s worth of morphine and I know any pot product would be much much higher, especially since I would need to be using daily.
Good luck, and let me know how it works out.

Are you interested in flower, eatables, or oil? Are you looking for energy or trying to relax? Happy New Year!

What kind of high are you after? Sativa will be a lighter high, with giggles and energy. It typically doesn't have much cbd in it. Indica is a body high, with introspection and sleep help. It usually has quite a bit of cbd.
Edibles can take a while to hit you. I've known loads of people who have taken too much because they didn't wait long enough and others who forget they even took it and can't figure out why they feel funny. Smoking hits fast.
You may want to try a search, there is a pea that posted a butt load of great info not too long ago.

Gone are the days when you get what you can get...hahaha. I was going to say what is there to recommend. 😉😄. Enjoy.
Indica - is more of zoning and relaxing.
sativa - more of a getup and go.
ETA - sorry just read the other responses and Malibou said it best.

No judgement here. I actually have a condition that is "on the list" for medical marijuana. But the weird circle that is my life, I work for the state. The state law says legal, but the state as an employer says no. I can take all kinds of heavy medications and they care not one whit, but touch the weed and get tested? Lose my job.
Anyway, just popping in to say good luck.

Wondering how the legalization of MJ plays into places that drug test for employment.

I read an article recently that there are some employers that have stopped testing for thc because they are loosing too large a pool of good candidates. Since a lot of states are at will employers, they get to make the rules for their businesses. So they can say yes or no to weed. The employment laws have not caught up with the state laws for usage. My doctor and I have talked about this. I take a medication that is highly addictive and medical marijuana would be a MUCH better solution and achieve the same results-if not better. But I can't because the employer says no.

Definitely ask the bud tenders at your store what they recommend, they are very knowledgeable.
Higher THC will give you an uplifting, energetic high Higher CBD will give you a sleepy high.

It’s so silly the way the US has embraced CBD but continues to vilify “marijuana” (a term which is also highly racially charged and was never broadly used until the Marijuana Tax Law came into effect).

Trust your salespeople and realize this shit is WAY stronger than the ditchweed we smoked growing up! Pay attention to dosage. Like, if they tell you to only eat half an edible, ONLY EAT HALF until you know how it'll affect you. Wondering if you live in IL! Lines out the doors at the nearby dispensaries. I'm not a big pot person, but I'd try an edible now and then.

Maybe they'll have a variety pack with a bit of everything so I can try them and see what I like and when. I was looking online and it's crazy how many choices there are - I had no idea. I did not go out today because social media has said the lines are at least a 2 hour wait. I wonder if they sell out how long it will take to restock.

I know some places here sell variety sets, but you can also buy just 1 g, which makes grabbing a few things a bit more affordable.
Are you looking to buy dried bud? Going to roll your own or use a pipe or vaporizer?

Going to roll your own or use a pipe or vaporizer? I am unsure. Back in the day I was able to roll my own and have used a pipe type device. I have not used a vaporizer and is that similar to the JUUL? Is one way healthier than the other? I was wondering if not smoking would be better health wise. I am really not sure! I would of been a p.i.a. if I just went in clueless or I would of just gotten some of everything!

Personally, I like a bong. Joints, and regular pipes are too harsh. Vaping makes me too nervous because of all the vaping in the news, and I just don't care for it.
There are also capsules you can take. They still take awhile to hit you like edibles, but you aren't getting all of the sugar that comes in typical edibles as they are usually very candy like.

Definitely check your specific state laws and your employer's regulations. There are specific rules in IL, like smoking in your home/apt is OK (unless your landlord says no), but not in your yard or on your porch (although the mayor of Chicago and interim police chief said they wouldn't be arresting for that). And please make sure your high is over before you drive.

I would of been a p.i.a. if I just went in clueless or I would of just gotten some of everything! There are lots of different types of vaporizers, and many price points/qualities. Some you put dried bud in and it is heated to convert the THC and CBD but there is no fire. Some take oils and extracts. I don’t know that they are much healthier — even as a daily cannabis user I don’t worry about how much I smoke because it really is such a small amount. I believe most of the health concerns regarding vaping are from untested components (like filters and plastic bits made in China) and from unregulated and untested ingredients in the actual vape oils. Here in Canada legal cannabis extracts can’t have any additional ingredients added (flavours or colours) and must pass a very high level of testing for microbes, pesticides, residual solvents and heavy metals so I feel very comfortable consuming our legal products.

Edibles. It's cleaner, no smell, and you're not putting stuff into your lungs. Just give it time to feel the effect - usually about an hour. Don't pull a Maureen Dowd.
There's a difference between Indica and Sativa. Indica is better for sleep and migraines. Sativa is better for creative work. Then there are hybrids, and a knowledgeable bud tender should give you recommendations. Ask about what insecticides -if any - were used on the product. I don't like them in my food or skin products, and I don't like them in my weed.
Congrats and enjoy! Pick out music that you like, or movies that you enjoy. I like photojournaling with edibles. My visual/spacial sense is heightened with edibles.

I found the edibles difficult and too strong for me - way too hard to control. We have a little pipe and I take it one hit at a time.

Extracts and concentrates of almost pure cannabinoids get to around 80%.

I’ve been a smoker for over 30 years now & I can truly say that what I get today to smoke is nothing compared to the shit I was getting years ago!
It used to be you took whatever was available now I order exactly what I want. If I want an indica & not get my ass off the couch all day then that’s what I order. If I want to get something done around my home then I order a sativa.
I’m not much into edibles but I make them for my friends who prefer not to smoke. There isn’t anything that can’t be turned into an edible.

A friend is a bud tender and works with parents with special and medical needs kids and adults with various medical and special needs.
Her son has a rare form of epilepsy and is on specific doses and variations of MJ.
So definitely talk to your local shop and explain to them what you are looking to address and what you are looking to achieve. It may take some time to work out the kinks but it can really be a big benefit.

For those who use various cannabis products, did it take some time to figure out how long before it was safe to drive? Or do you only take it on days you know you don't need to be out?
How has it helped you with anxiety?

If one strain like indica makes you feel unpleasant there are still other solutions. I don’t use hybrids nor sativa. I feel too weird on them. Only indica works for me. You might need to try a few things to get your right strength or strain or method. Don’t give up. ashley and I both have success with it as do lots of other peas.

It's legal recreational here as well. My husband is the only one of us who has tried it since moving here, so I have no suggestions for you on that front. My only suggestion, coming from a medical perspective, is consider edibles/tonics/etc over smoking. Anything that is burned and inhaled has effects on your lungs not to mention if there is mold on the leaves. There is some growing evidence in vaporizing MJ and having less effects on the lungs. This article on vaporizing is well researched and may provide some good information about the topic.
