We always get together with another family and usually theme our food based upon the team regions. The DH in the other family has already claimed Kansas City BBQ. I'm looking for apps & dessert ideas for the 49ers. Input is greatly appreciated, although it doesn't matter where the teams are from, guacamole will ALWAYS be on the table because it's tradition. LOL
I used to have an active sourdough starter until DH and one of the kids got tested for celiac and came back positive so no more lovely homemade sourdough for us.

maybe one of your friends has a starter you could use. i was going to suggest sourdough. if not you could buy a loaf. something with ghirardelli chocolate (they have brownie mix). chinatown is big in SF, so something chinese. shrimp for fisherman's wharf. something for alcatraz. i love chocolate rocks!

When I think of SF, I think of seafood, authentic Chinese food (usually cantonese), and if we are getting stereotypical, Ghirardelli.
I could see doing a Ghirardelli chocolate based dessert as something super easy to find and make.
Seafood might get too pricey, but tiny cioppino cups or crab cakes would be so cute and good.
And then with Chinese, what would be pretty easy is something you buy frozen and steam, which is a lot of dim sum options. Like soup dumplings, shumai, or baos. You could make dipping sauce from scratch.

We must be on the same wave length. I just posted this question in the Ask & Answer Game!
We have a party every year. We always have some of our annual favorites: corny cheese dip & onion dip, rice balls, pizza bites, hot wings, pigs in a blanket and a Carvel Football Cake.
We also have a number of Super Bowl Pool Boxes going. They get hung on one of our living room walls and as the quarters end everyone’s always checking their numbers for any winnings. Lots of fun !
Countdown’s on now ......... 🏈

I was thinking a taco bar. Have people bring various toppings and we will do chicken and beef. Other than plates, cups, forks and spoons here is my list, am I missing anything? Of course a dessert or sweets too! Chicken Beef Beans Tortillas Taco Shells Onion Tomato Lettuce Guacamole Cheese Salsa Sour Cream

It is just DH and I (DS is at school), so we will try to keep it simple, but still get some variety - we have a bunch of appetizers from Omaha Steaks, so we will have Filet Mignon Empanadas, Pigs in a Blanket, maybe some sliders and I will make some sort of dip- queso or buffalo chicken dip, and an assortment of veggies and dip.

Also, black olives!!

DH usually cooks a Tri Tip and then we do a bunch of finger foods. Little smokies in BBQ sauce, guac/chips, chicken buffalo dip, who knows...we mix it up every year.

I don’t know yet. In the past it was the one time a year DS would have KFC. Our local KFC is long gone so last year we ordered fried chicken from another local place and it wasn’t very good. I could always make Ina Gardens fried chicken. DS works until 3pm that day and DD has a soccer game. Lots of running around right before the game starts.

We'll be making these: French Onion Beef Sliders. DD & I made them last weekend for a get-together at my SIL's house and they were a hit. 2nd time through I'd use more cheese (gruyere) and some other type of slider rolls besides King's Hawaiian. Those rolls were the right size but they needed to be cut apart individually, and I thought they were too sweet for this recipe (DD & others loved the sweetness). They don't fit your theme but they were yummy!

I think I will make chicken wings, 7 layer dip, and a big platter of vegetables dip. We are both on diets.

It’s almost always just our immediate family so we don’t do anything fancy. Just easy food.
Shrimp and cocktail sauce, little smokies in bbq sauce, salami, cheese and crackers and 7 layer dip and chips. It’s an odd combo but it’s our favorites.

My first thought was Rice-A-Roni and Ghirardelli chocolate.

Probably Buffalo Chicken wings, sweet potato fries, shrimp ring and chili.
Desserts are usually brownies, chocolate chip cookies and snack stuff from Costco.

I have no idea what the local's eat in SF.
I'm making funeral sandwiches, meatballs, boudin dip and chicken spaghetti.
Family members are bringing desserts. Definitely fruit and banana pudding, maybe a cake or two.

I have never had gruyere, so I am very intrigued. I'm sooo glad you mentioned NOT using the Hawaiin rolls, because I wouldn't want any kind of sweetness with this. P.S....I'm not having a super bowl party, nor am I going to one---I just came here to read (and drool) over allllll the yummies y'all are making

scrappintoee, I should add that I didn't use the sesame seeds on top as suggested, but that was my only alteration from the recipe. None of the people consuming these are big fans of sesame seeds (myself included) so we skipped them. And wait 'til you try gruyere - you'll love it! Expensive cheese but soooo worth it, IMHO.

I hadn't noticed beef PASTE when looking at the recipe earlier. Sooo, since I've never heard of it, I had to do some googling. Wow, beef paste just isn't something readily available in the U.S. BUT---after much MORE googling, I saw that it's similar to the beef BOUILLON bases that are easily found. Is bouillon what you used? How much? I assume it's VERY strong and concentrated, and I don't want to ruin these yummy sandwiches! Thanks in advance!

Once you use the BTB bases, you will never go back to the powders. They are very flavorful.

I guess I should NOT read recipes while having a bad headache AND being sleep deprived I use powdered bullion (beef and chicken) quite often in my cooking, but never the non-powdered. I cannot WAIT to try it, and I'm sure I'll never buy powdered again!

Jennifer Whoa! I'm officially inviting myself over! That is a LOT of yumminess !!! I've been to some superbowl parties with goodies, but not THIS good! You and your family do it right! I mean, not just banana pudding (*yum!), but a cake, maybe TWO? Annnd, who doesn't love chicken spaghetti! Ima need my family to come up to this level !!! I've never heard of and was intrigued by boudin dip, so I googled. I'm gonna have to make some SOON! Adding all of this to my grocery list! I got this from googling---is it similar to what you make?
This Louisiana-inspired Boudin dip is baked hot and bubbly with spicy Boudin Cajun sausage, a mix of cheeses, and sour cream. Perfect for parties or game day! PREP: 20 MINUTESCOOK: 30 MINUTES YIELDS: 6 SERVINGS INGREDIENTS 1 lb boudin sausage 8 oz cream cheese softened 8 oz sour cream 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese 1/4 cup green onion chopped and divided toasted bread for dipping

I find that when the salt flavor is right, so is the beefiness. It’s harder to find, but you can look for the low sodium version and you can control the amount of salt in the dish. I first learned about these bases from a cooking class on making sauces. I thought that if it was good enough for a professional chef, it was good enough for me!

Most people do it that way. I, however, am different. I take 1 lb of boudin and mix it with On the Border Salsa con queso. And that's it. My family now refuses the regular boudin dip. Either way, I like it. Jennifer

Thanks in advance! scrappintoee, I used something called "beef base", which is like concentrated bouillon in spoonable form. The one I have is " All Natural Better than Bouillon Beef Base". I used the low sodium one. It comes in a jar and I found it in the soup and bouillon aisle at my Safeway grocery store. I've sometimes also seen it at Costco. I don't know what area of the country you're in, but I had no problem finding it in my local store (DC metro area). If you can't find it at all, I imagine you could use bouillon cubes, but with a lot less water to dissolve it in - does that make sense?
