or any epidemic?
My husband is the head of HR for a major hospitality company and he mentioned today that they are firming up their contingency plans for any epidemic that could close their facilities for months. He also asked me to pick up a lot of shelf stable items while I was at Costco. Of course we would need these with any kind of natural disaster too, so it makes sense to always be prepared.
This got me wondering if your employers are making any kind of plans based on the spread of the coronavirus and/or how your family may be preparing "just in case."

We got notification yesterday that all international business travel between countries in Asia, and any business travel to and from Hubei Province in China, has been prohibited until further notice.
They are also closely monitoring the situation in Europe due to reports of the virus spreading.
Doesn’t affect me, the furthest I travel for work is to the Western suburbs! 😂

DH works in healthcare (but isn't a doctor), they have planned what will happen with his job including working from home for weeks.
We personally ordered an emergency food kit from Costco and stocked up on some other things at whatever Cash n Carry (restaurant supply store) is now called...
I still need to add a few things (toilet paper!) because there are six of us in our house...
It was sort of a weird shopping trip. DH is freaked out we won't have electricity and water and I was going for we'll just be stuck in the house and have plenty of food in the freezer...but a little chocolate might keep us from killing each other!

Rush is a POS.
I teach in a small district. My guess is that one case and we would shut down as the entire town would have been exposed.
DH works in a hospital. They have a hot team in place, but they won't have the same sort of precautions they had with Ebola a couple years ago. They would go into isolation protocol and then ship the person somewhere equipped to deal with it.
My dad works for a computer company. They work closely with places in Wuhan. The employers there are shut down which means no hardware coming out and no back and forth with the software. In addition to what my dad does, Foxconn is also in that area and makes Apple stuff, so that production is slowed as well.

As for our house? We are switching to a gas stove (tomorrow, finally) so electricity wouldn't affect that, although since we have solar power, perhaps we should have stayed with electric. Anyway, not worried about not being able to cook. Our freezer is stocked, so we would have plenty of meat. I should beef up our emergency supplies, but just haven't done that. DH's fear would be that we would run out of toilet paper

They’ve cancelled travel to China. Anyone that’s been to an area impacted has to email and get approval before coming back into the office. We are a fin tech company and can all work from home if need be...I do most of the time already.
I did just return from vacation and our resort notified us that another couple staying there was infected.

One of the peas was berating us all, saying we should be more worried about the flu. I wonder if she still feels that way.

I don’t think I berated anyone though. 😄 I am still more concerned about the flu. I do not think this is the same as a cold, but I’m still not ready to lose my shit over this.

I haven't heard of any changes yet. I'm hoping I don't get the flu again...
DH is having us stock up on paper products and a few food items. We also purchased an extra propane tank for the grill. We aren't buying anything we wouldn't use. We are debating driving to our family reunion this summer instead of purchasing tickets.

I really didn't know that people were prepping for an outbreak! No one I know is stocking up on supplies. I don't know what my company is doing behind the scenes, but nothing has changed outwardly. At our branch of the company, there is very little travel outside of the county. For me, I make sure I wash my hands often, I try not to touch my face with my hands if they haven't been washed, and I will admit that I now use the sanitizing wipes at the grocery store.
So far, 150 people in California have died of the flu this season. We've had 15 (i think) cases of Coronavirus with no deaths. As of right now, I am more concerned with the flu.

I'm retired now, but when I did work, my employer did the whole shebang and all documented. Who were essential workers, who would work form home, chain of commands, what tasks could be suspended, or what must continue to happen, supplies purchased such as masks, and a special cleaning wipe that is suppose to be better than clorox or lysol, FEMA training. The plans were in big binders and were updated each year.

I am not overly concerned at all. But guessing the president has no clues and says too many things too often! This was eight after Hogan Gidley denied even an ask for $1 billion......... * The Trump administration announced Monday night that it will ask Congress for "at least $2.5 billion" in additional funding to fight the coronavirus. The funding request will include at least $1 billion for vaccine development, an official said. The request will be for one lump sum to allow the Department of Health and Human Services "maximum flexibility" the official added. ** thehill.com/policy/healthcare/484441-white-house-asking-congress-for-25-billion-to-fight-coronavirus

We had a visiting scholar from China have to cancel, and we got an email saying the university was preparing, but I can’t tell you what that means.
I can’t imagine how I could get enough food into this house to feed anyone for any length of time. Hopefully I won’t have to.

The Japanese couple that got ill stayed at the resort my son works at. They had a meeting and was told that the incubation period had passed so they had nothing to worry about. Last night, on the news, they reported that a doctor in China stated that the incubation period might be longer. I'm afraid that as time passes more and more info like this will come out. BTW I'm on Maui and the resort is The Kaanapali Beach Club.

One of the peas was berating us all, saying we should be more worried about the flu. I wonder if she still feels that way. Dr. Peter Hotez is a tropical disease scientist that studies these types of events and creates vaccines. He has a potential for a vaccine that was in development for SARS which has the same protein spikes. He needs funding and the US Gov't isnt jumping to help. He is A HUGE advocate of the flu shot. 1) More people die of the flu Y2Y 2) If you don't have the shot and get sick you will add burdens to the healthcare environment needing to focus on COVID-19. He does a lot of interviews and can be found on Twitter.

I think one major issue could be medication, should things continue to go badly in China. We get a lot of our meds from that country. Unfortunately we can’t stockpile our prescription meds.
