So has coronavirus changed how you interact with folks on facebook or how you view some folks on your friends list? I had nooooo idea I know so many dumbasses. Honestly I am dumbfounded at the ignorant posts I see over and over again. I have posted a couple things, nothing preachy. I am mostly not commenting on the stupid posts but I am rolling my eyes ridiculously hard. I did comment on one today about nurses being the only ones not stepping away. I found that offensive and I’m an RN lol. I am pretty sure these folks will be why it spreads as they have no concept of social distancing, risk mitigation, or how serious this is going to be.
I think I’m going to have to hide folks in fb before I say something I’ll regret. Anybody else having Facebook issues?

YES! It's the media's fault for the virus.... I responded with maybe you're reading the wrong media outlets. The media is doing their jobs of reporting. If you don't like the media, read some scientific articles.

I have been surprised by posts from some very educated family members. I keep wondering how they earned multiple advanced degrees but are believing AND sharing misinformation!!
Now I’m NOT surprised by some other extended family members, they are always posting things that make me roll my eyes!!

I silenced quite a few idiots today, not a single one over politics over the last 5 years but today my finger is sore.

Well, I can't step away from her but seeing my dtr write that she hoped "this nonsense" would soon be over was a shock.

My favorite one so far talks about how this is all a hoax to make Donald Trump lose the election. 🙄
I told my daughter, why yes, multiple countries have shut down their schools just so Trump will lose. Disney world is closing, Broadway is shutting down. I then laughed and said well, Broadway might actually go dark just to make him lose!

I do not do confrontation... almost ever in person. But, another teacher today was saying how this was all a huge overreaction to influence the election and I said, “Italy closed everything. China shut down everything. They are not trying to influence US politics, they are losing billions of dollars trying to keep their people alive!”.
I guess if all news is fake and FOX is your only source, you are left with some serious gaps in your knowledge.

I see a lot of "we're overreacting" posts. I shared a scientific post that explains why this is necessary and got a "disagree" comment. The ones that are scoffing at all these shut downs are the ones that never bothered to further their education and barely graduated high school. I'm not speaking in generalities. I'm speaking of the people I know personally on my Facebook friends list. One is a high school drop out who waited 10 years to get a GED and continues to job hop from one retail job to another. The idea of her reading anything that's more than a paragraph long is laughable.
I'm hiding a lot of people these days so my feed is primarily Dodo and news.

I'm not seeing much of it on my feed, but I started hiding conservative (and ultra-liberal) media pages during the 2016 election. I rarely see anything at all from my friends on the "other" side, which is where most of the irresponsible rhetoric comes from. I do occasionally see a comment here or there on public/neighborhood pages (most recently the one about it all being a hoax to sabotage re-election), but they aren't from people I know personally.
I have seen a ton of irreverent jokes about toilet paper though.

I am assuming I will be unfriended by a couple of friends today. Both of them posted that stupid advice about how drinking water every 15 minutes will wash the virus down your throat, to your stomach where your stomach acid will kill it. And how holding your breath will diagnose if you have the virus or not.
I didn't post anything directly on their posts, but did do a post on my wall about stupid and dangerous advice.

They had a segment on GMA about those claims. Supposedly it had come from a Stanford account ( screen shot)BUT Stanford said no we never put that out . And in fact it is patently false.

it was in an Aldi group where someone was complaining about how she couldn't buy something at the store because of all the hoarders. I'll admit that this angers me. It hasn't gotten really bad here in SC, yet but I see several items disappearing from shelves. I hope they put a limit on toilet paper, water etc. I'm not afraid of the virus, but the way people are panicking scares me. I'm not making light of it by any means, but misinformation-both ways- is not good. And I do need paper towels because I'm on my last roll...

My daughter told me this morning that the playground supervisor told all the kids this was created by the pharmaceutical companies so that they could get more money out of people.
I about had a stroke. I yelled some things with swear words. And then I told my 3 kids they are never ever to listen to this woman about anything related to science or healthcare ever. She is an anti-vaxxer. The only thing they are to take seriously from her are directions about the playground. On the way to school we had to have a conversation again about viruses and how there are different categories of them and then different strains that affect different populations and then about mutations. I had to dig deep into what I can remember from my bio minor. 😂

Try living in North Dakota where most LOVE Trump and feel like they are immune from anything bad ever happening to them. Let's just say there have been an awful lot of people on FB I have unfollowed in the past 3+ years. It's actually quite horrifying to realize how deep down nasty and/or ignorant certain people you interact with in real life are when they are safely behind a screen typing away.

I may have rolled my eyes and said idiot way too many times last night as I scrolled. My DH said he was going to put me in a FB timeout so I wouldn't see all that was upsetting me. I just don't know how people believe some of the stuff out there and how they continue to spread the stupidness.

I really haven’t seen many political posts about the corona virus. As I said on another thread, I did unfriend someone I knew in high school who sells essential oils. She posted a very somber looking black and white announcement from her company which said something like “Our thoughts are with all who do not have our oils during this time.”
I thought it was so offensive that they were taking advantage of a crisis to tout their products and suggest they would protect you from the corona virus.

No, I haven't---only because the same people who annoyed me and disappointed me before about politics are the same posters (mostly Trump supporters and a couple liberal anti-vax/crunchy types).

YES YES YES!
Like someone else mentioned, my husband has given me notice. I need to let it go and ignore the idiots or he was deactivating my facebook/twitter/instagram accounts.
I feel like one more stupid comment I might lose my mind on someone and go off the deep end, trying to educate.
I realize though, most wont listen to reason and science.

My FB feed has been pretty level headed about this. People at my work, not so much. I've asked that all meetings I am to attend have additional call in capabilities (as per the head of my institutions instructions) and mentioned that I will be calling in to meetings until further notice, which has been met with strange looks and multiple comments of 'oh we didn't think that applied to us'...

I have seen a lot of stupid stuff. In the last month or so there has been an influx of anti-democrat posts so I have unfollowed a few people. I unfriended/unfollowed a few last night for the coronavirus stupidity. They were primarily people that I don’t know irl and don’t really have a reason to be friends with then anyway.

My sister falls into the "this is all a big overreaction caused by the mainstream media" camp. I finally blocked her. I can still communicate with her via phone and text but I can't do social media with her any more. She lives very isolated, taking care of her four kids (three with cystic fibrosis, so OMG she should be worried if anyone is) and getting "news" from right-wing conspiracy sites and FB groups. She frequently posts self-deprecating things "thanking" people with BCBS insurance for paying for her kids' treatments, but OMG suggest that others could gain similar benefit through a single-payer plan and "that's socialism." Sorry, that's off-topic but to the point of others above, the Venn diagram of right-wing conspiracy folks and "the media has overhyped this" is pretty much a circle.
My elderly aunt also posted yesterday about how unfair all this was to Trump and how "no one could have seen this coming or prevented it." A couple of other people had gently disagreed with her so I just scrolled on by. She's the only one of my aunts I actually like, so I tread carefully there.

A friend posted that she was at Aldi yesterday and you could get toilet paper or paper towels but not both. I haven’t stocked up on anything but it is irritating me that there might not be anything left for those of us who didn’t hoard food and supplies and just need to get normal groceries. I’m actually trying to buy less because if my office closes I will not be getting paid.

I already culled my Facebook down to a handful of people and groups. But have had to cut off a few local news groups because of either full blown hysteria or full blown denial. I don't have a place in my head for either extreme.

I really really want to block the distant cousin who posted the fatality numbers of abortion vs corona virus. But she’s struggling with her son’s suicide so I’m continuing to scroll by with grace.
I’m saddened by the number of people that are going up be harmed; more so for those who are in denial or spouting hoax conspiracies and will be caught unprepared.
With the exception of my aged 70 mother, I’m scrolling on by as time and the scope of this pandemic is going to refute better then any arguments I have. But even then I fear it will still all be Obama’s, her emails, and the dems fault...

My favorite has been one shared by dumbasses I went to HS with - it's a government made virus developed so the government can take control of everything. "See, they're controlling sporting events, concerts, all gatherings, now they're got everyone confined to their homes. They have total control of the entire population!"
