Neighborhood walks are ok, right? I will cross the street if I see someone, I won’t touch anything, but I need some fresh air. My husband says to just go sit on our porch, but I need to move. I normally don’t like the sun, but now that I am cooped up inside and it is sunny I want to be out. People are out walking their dogs, but maybe that doesn’t count? I wonder if any of my cats would be interested in leash training? What say the peas?

Yes I think it’s fine. It’s the one thing we’ve been doing. I don’t usually see anyone when we walk.

My husband and I have been going out at around 7:30-8:00 AM for a walk. We cross if we see other people, but it’s pretty quiet out at that time anyway.

We have gone out every day for a long walk. We don't touch anything, cross the street if we see someone coming, and wash our hands when we get home. I live in a very small town. I would probably feel differently if I lived in a large city with a lot of other foot traffic. DH and I walked for almost 2 hours today, and only had to cross to avoid other people 2 times. Both were people with dogs. It feels so odd and un "small-town values" to cross the street instead of saying hi to people, and I am pathologically introverted.

Well, I’ve been sitting in my living room most of the afternoon, looking out at the street in front of the house.
There have been a ton of people going by, some walking dogs, some walking by themselves, and a few jogging. With the exception of three kids together (although walking in a line) they have all been alone, except for maybe one couple.
When anyone has passed another person, it has been on opposite sides of the street, usually going different directions. People nod and say hi but that’s been it.
Today is supposed to be the nicest day, weather-wise, all week, so I think people have been getting some much needed sunshine and fresh air.

I’m sure it’s okay as long as you avoid getting too close to other people.

I have been walking my dogs early, early for the past 5 years. I have not stopped. I am self-quarantined to keep my heart daughter safe. I don't feel walking my dogs is a danger to anyone. I usually don't see anyone anyway except a few neighbors, and we are always far apart and/or wave. It's not a problem. I did stop to talk to one neighbor this morning but I was out in the street, and she was on her porch. She is on 1/2 an acre so her house is far from the street. No problem. Just be smart about it. The air, movement, sounds of birds, etc., is a great thing to do each morning.

They are encouraging people to go outside and walk with social distancing. We went for a walk about an hour ago and were about a mile from our house when there was a hail storm! We were soaked by the time we got home but we got some exercise!

We have been hit very hard in Norway, and we are being encouraged to go outside but keep 3-5 feet distance from anyone. So I walk my kids every day. Play some Pokemon. Keep our distance from other people walking their dogs etc.

YES!!! And you'll feel so much better after you do.
Did a beach walk with my Tuesday walking buddy. We have both been home other than the grocery store and doubt we could be carrying it. Her husband is about 73 and not in great health, so she is extra careful (as I have been). We decided that about 3-4' was our comfortable distance from one another. We passed people on the trail and everyone was very mindful of #1, smiling and saying hello to one another, and #2, staying 6' away from other groups.
And OMG, talking with a real person + being on the beach + sunny weather + walking 4 miles = SO much good for my psyche.

I don't see it as a problem. Easy to keep a distance from others. It's going to be imperative for people who are stuck at home to get out and get some exercise, both for their physical and mental health. Plus, my doggo won't let me NOT take him for a walk.

Our hospital commander is encouraging us to get outside every day. It’s good for the body and the mind. Emma and I have been exploring more trails and found a meadow or two for her to sniff. There is some early evidence that being outdoors helps resist the virus/kills the virus/something. But I’ll take it!

I'm with the others - a definite yes! It's really easy to keep the 6 foot distance outside - everyone seems to be very conscience of doing so.
Enjoy your walk!!

We are still walking our dog twice a day. It feels good to get outside in the fresh air and sun (even though it’s cold!) and it’s easy to keep your distance if you see anyone.

You could walk for hours and hours and most of the time never see anyone maybe one person. Small village. So here I'd go. I want my DD and I to go now that she is out of school permanently. As long as it's not frigid, it's usually sunny.

We've gone for walks. I still see the same runners and dog walkers. Nobody's stopping to chat though.

Of course. You're not gonna hug all of your neighbors. Don't lick the trees or cars on the street and you should be good. Go get some fresh air and exercise. We have some beautiful hiking trails in my area and I wish I was healthy enough to go walk those trails. If I could I would.

My husband and I took a walk this afternoon and our neighbor a few houses down wanted to chat. Which we did, from a distance, and I explained that I'm immunocompromised right now and why. It felt very weird to stand far away and actually feel afraid of getting too close to her.

Yes of course it's okay. And sunshine and fresh air are therapeutic and can help with your mood. Go out! walk, jog, ride your bike, drive to somewhere that has some nice hiking.

I totally licked the trees and cars as I walked by. I will do better tomorrow! I left as soon as I posted and just got back, glad to see I wasn’t being a nitwit. Saw two people walking, one with a dog already across the street from me and another little old lady who hustled as fast as she could to get across the street from me when we were at least 2 blocks away. I was going to cross myself when I got to a corner, but she beat me to it. I will absolutely be walking each day, I just wish our neighborhood was more interesting. Maybe tomorrow I will drive to a different area. Thanks everyone.

Glad you could get out!

Yes! I live in the Bay Area in California and my county is one that has been told to shelter in place. Walks are encouraged! One of the few things that we can do. Like above, keep your distance and enjoy being outside.

That's something that can make the days more interesting....pick a different neighborhood every day, drive there, and walk around. I was thinking of driving to various school parking lots, since they're all closed and the parking lots are empty, and walking around those areas.

I wonder if any of my cats would be interested in leash training? Go and walk, but too late for the cats, they need very early training!!
