Musicians have been doing free concerts, actors have been doing readings, etc during this time where were are all confined. Have you seen anything locally that to improve people’s spirits or to do something fun while maintaining social distancing?
A family in my town that usually has a really nice Christmas light display has put one up again. Also, at the Wisconsin Badger football games “Jump Around” is played between the 3rd and 4th quarters and the stadium goes crazy (it shakes the stadium and is even measurable on the Richter scale!) So this afternoon there was a statewide “Jump Around”. Radio stations of all different formats played the song at the same time. A family down the road from me even decorated for it and a wedding DJ was setting up outside to play it for his neighborhood.

The small town I live in is doing a weekly birthday parade. If a child is having a birthday, their parents can submit their address. Then on a predetermined date each week, anyone who wants to gathers at a central point and sets out on a “parade” that goes by each house. People decorate their cars, and there’s lots of honking. Even some of police cars and fire trucks join in. A lot people report getting ready-eyed while watching it.

Our town has an annual easter egg hunt at the park put on by the youth council. This year, you can register your address and they will come hide the eggs in your front yard for your kids.

vspindler I texted my daughter, and at 3:00 we went outside our homes and jumped around! I don't think any of our neighbors heard or saw us, but it made us smile for a little while!

Hotels on the LV Strip are closed, but several are starting to spell out messages of unity by turning on lights in the empty guest rooms. Each letter is several stories high in length and shines bright against their dark facades. The messages include Vegas Strong, We heart Vegas, & LOVE.

This is taking place in the area where I grew up - Heaton Moor. Every day the Heaton Moor Bears are doing a different activity to cheer the neighbours up.

Making noise outside for healthcare workers every evening at 7pm (nurse shift change). It’s sweet. My girls love it and we can hear it every night. I heard that if you drive by the main hospital downtown at that time it’s like a parade of cars honking their horns. We haven’t done it yet. Maybe next weekend.

Elementary school teachers did a car parade through the neighborhood. I was very noisy and cool. They had signs, balloons and some had painted windows. I only saw a couple of kids from our windows but it looked like a lot of fun. I thought it was a really cool thing for them to do. I had heard about it happening in other neighborhoods as well.

The little kids in our neighborhood have created sidewalk chalk “obstacle courses” for the people out walking. They have hopscotch, walk the beam, jump on the lily pads, etc. someone is also painting rocks with hearts and smilet faces and leaving them throughout the neighborhood. They always make me smile when I see them on my walks.
A friend’s daughter works in a COVID unit as an RN. Tonight, several of us are driving (separately of course) to her neighborhood and will greet her with cheers, horns blowing etc in a gratitude parade.

The community art center has hosted a sidewalk chalk art exhibit. Everybody is doing the bear hunt. Our Governor asked for green outside lights to signify hope and solidarity. One of the elementary schools did a teacher wave parade. One neighborhood did a window art exhibit. Our school district put signs in each senior’s yard indicating they were a graduate. It seems to me, and I have no idea how we compare to other communities, that our little town has embraced this and it has been fun to watch everybody coming together exhibiting kindness.

I know a lot of my friends/family are in a funk. I made a ton of Easter cookies (finishing up today) and I'm going to do a ding, dong, drop off on Saturday. Everyone I polled was fine with homemade cookies as I've been in lock down going on week #4. I'll drop them on their porch, ring the bell and go. For those not close enough for me to "visit", I'm scheduling a mail pick up tomorrow. Just something special for Easter since we can't go anywhere. I'm spreading Corona-KINDNESS

Last night I heard the howling for the first time.. seems more and more people are joining in. I almost missed it. I didn't howl though... maybe tonight.
But sadly our town was in the news for police arresting a guy in the park with his daughter.. (it was only for like 10 minutes) He made a big deal about it and made our police look bad. Both (to me) were in the wrong. He was being that guy who wasn't going to get his rights taken away and the police were under the impression the whole park was closed. The man wouldn't leave so they handcuffed him and put him in the squad car. All in all a big misunderstanding in which the police pubically apologized (per his request) but then the guy refused to go down to the station to talk to them. So I think the guy was just an ass about it. (maybe he wasn't but to me and a few interviews and just the way he acted, it just reminded me of just a stubborn man who just wouldn't let this go because damnit his rights were violated.) I believe it could have been handled all around much better.. but whatever.

Our town is doing special things for the high school seniors. Also teddy bears in windows, and chalking sidewalks. A lot of people are doing grocery runs for seniors and also making signs for the nursing home folks.

In our area, someone painted a bunch of rocks with little inspirational sayings and put them along the edge of the yards by the street and/or mailboxes. Things like “Keep smiling!” “Look for rainbows” and that kind of thing. They were cute. Today when I went out to put some outgoing mail in our mailbox, I found a little 3” painted canvas in it that says, “Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.” There was a computer printed note on the front that said, “Dear neighbor, we hope this small token will give you some hope and joy through these difficult times. Stay safe, your neighbors”

Yesterday, there was a box of cookies in the mail area with a note from one of the neighbors-- she likes to bake but needed help getting rid of her baked goods. Someone wrote "thank you" on it. I also dug out a couple of teddy bear beanie babies from storage-- one with an egg on his chest and one with rainbows and sunshine-- and put them in my patio window. They're kinda small compared to the window and I don't know if anyone will see them, but I wanted to do something. It occurs to me that I could also go out and draw something on the concrete: I already have chalk for my menu board!
