There were two threads here very early on that changed my behavior and I don’t have time to find them but they really helped me prepare. One was what would you do if quarantined (I bought a bunch of yarn and some activity sets for my kids) and one was a letter from an MD to her family and friends about how we will all know someone who will die from this (that made me start social distancing very early)
So, thanks Peas I would be hurting without you and your ideas and en encouragement!!!
I almost forgot the toilet paper run, I heard that here first and stocked up!

ITA! I was able to prepare well before others in my area by listening to Peas that were in the beginning of this. Once they started sharing what they were seeing/hearing, I mobilized. So THANK YOU!

Same for me. I was able to make sure I had most basic supplies because of what I read here.

I was JUST thinking about this today - how the sharing of information here has informed and changed my life in so many ways. Definitely for this virus, with preparation and updates. But also in how I view some things and realizing that (a) many people are carrying burdens we don't know about and (b) that many people are wonderful even if their perspectives (which are shaped by family, friends, and even regions of the country) may be very different from my own.

I agree... I would not have been prepared with this board.

Agreed. The suggestions and info from peas definitely changed the way my family prepared. Long before people in my area were taking it seriously, we were stocked up on TP and supplies, and we started working from home. Thank you, Peas!

Completely agree!! The Peas had me starting to prepare about a month before it was a 'thing' so I already had started buying the things I needed and didn't have to mad dash to the store with everyone else.

I agree. I purchased an extra pack of toilet paper from Costco because of the peas, and I am so glad I did. It has also helped with the situation I'm going through with my ex, I was definitely much more prepared… my lawyer was even impressed with how much I brought to my first meeting! Also relating to the situation with my ex, when I have posted here I have gotten so much support, and several peass reached out with private messages as well. That meant so much to me, and really helped get me through the darkest time of my life. Thank you, Peas for being there for me in many situations!

All of this...I took very seriously what sleepingbooty posted (hope you are doing okay) and took steps. This meant that we were social distancing very early and that I did shopping (not crazy shopping, but enough to keep us afloat for a few weeks) very early. I also shared what I did with friends and family, most of who pooh poohed me. I am deeply grateful to this board and community for helping keep my family safe and in turn keeping others safe.

The letter to that lady’s family is the reason I was so prepared. I told my family about it at the time and they thought I’d gone crazy. My sister actually made fun of me to her whole family. I’m waiting for an apology, she already knows several people who have sadly died, but she’ll have forgotten about the incident by now! She has been so cross with me for insisting she stays away from our mum.
The peas are definitely an informative bunch, or maybe I should say pod!

Ditto on the toilet paper!
I usually don't buy another pack until I have two or three rolls left. I first heard about the TP shortage here. At the time, our usual store had plenty so I grabbed a pack then despite having at least 8 rolls of a 12 pack left. The next roll we put out will be from that pack. There hasn't been a reliable stock of TP in the store in several weeks.
I may have to grab a package of TP, even if it's not my preferred brand, soon just in case.

Thanks to the Peas, I was the Chicken Little in my family and I'm okay with that. They told me to stop being dramatic at the first of March. I did my thing and who still has TP? Adequate food? Had time to transition my work? To them I'm still way too alarmist, but I'd rather err on the side of safety any day. Now how to you make prison wine with old fruit peels and isopropyl alcohol?

Yes, thank you peas for the heads up. The power of the peas. I would have not know what was truly coming.
And thank you for keeping me informed of what is happening in your neck of the woods, now and always It's nice to get quick informative level headed blurbs. You can't go to the comment section of news articles on FB and you certainly can't ask or reply to things there like you can here. I know we don't always have the same opinions or views but we generally get along well, for the most part. More support than not.

Same for me. I’m VERY fortunate to live in an area that is not having food shortages, sand fortunate to have a good job. But I did make sure I was well stocked in food, and TP. I usually am anyway, but I definitely am now. I still go to the store about once a week, but for things like pop, drinks, and misc items we might have run out of. Quick in and out of the store, to keep us going. But if it came to it, I could not go easily for a month if need be.

Yep. My friends thought I was crazy. I TOLD them to buy TP. They laughed at me. Now they’re wiping their butts with paper towels and telling me they’re sorry.

I have always thought of the Peas as the original "influencers" (in a good way) -- long before there was social media and Instagrammers. I always appreciate being able to come here first and learn about things, sometimes before it makes it to my news. The good reviews and also things to avoid. I am so grateful for the Peas!

Ditto on the meat. We were talking about that at work today...someone reported that a Tyson chicken processing plant had closed due to workers falling ill. I don’t see that brand a lot here, but it makes me concerned about this becoming a trend.

We have been hearing this too. There is something else going on. Cattle prices are going down and so cattlemen are not bring their cattle to market. Which doesn't make sense because the price in the store is up. We are stocking up on meat. But then you have the added worry about what happens if the electricity goes out. Meat is expensive, so I'm not telling you to do this, just letting you know what we are doing. ETA: disclaimer: this is what I was told (we live in cattle country). I haven't been following cattle prices myself.

I would like to recommend that you go and get some actual cash to keep at home.
The stores don't like cash at this time, BUT, if there is a run on cash (this could happen) and the atm's are empty, you can deposit the cash that you took out earlier to refill your debit card.
Purchase grocery store gift cards so that if/when someone may have to shop for you, just hand them the card and no actual cash has to exchanged between you.

I remember posting my concerns early on. I really felt this was going to get bad. I wanted to post more and really shout to the peas that I was extremely concerned but I was worried people would jump on me about it. So I did not post everything I felt. I did make my husband buy a huge freezer and a generator in February because I was so concerned. Thank god! He even told me to go to Sams and fill the freezer up. I only filled it half way, wish I bought more salmon/chicken now. Thinking back, I really enjoyed that shopping trip lol.
I did buy two big packs of TP from Sams, I usually only buy one but wanted to be safe. This was way before TP shortage!

the peas stories helped me be ahead of the curve as well. That's why I am trying to report on conditions in my area stores, so I can help inform others.

I bought TP a little earlier than I needed to when people here started talking about a potential TP shortage (although at that time I think the thought was that the supply chain from china may disrupt stock in stores). Due to that, we had plenty when the stores became low. I still don't know how some of the families that stocked up are going to use all of what they bought in the near future. I bought a Sam's club package over a month ago and it isn't even half gone.
