I decided to make a cinnamon swirl bread today. Giant fail. This recipe was a twisted loaf - you rolled the dough up and sliced it so the sugar was exposed and you twisted it up.
There was so much smoke while it baked - the butter/sugar/cinnamon part leaked over the edge and bottom of my oven. Smoke galore lol.
When it finally finished baking and it came out of the pan, a whole lot of the cinnamon sugar had sunk to the bottom so there is a thick carmelized layer on the bottom of the loaf. Omg
still yummy but so not baked well!

Yes! We tried a Pinterest recipe using crumbled Italian sausage, cheese and frozen dinner rolls, baked in a 9x13 pan. It sounded like something delicious you would find from an Italian restaurant or better pizza place. Not sure if we didn't bake it long enough or if it was just a lemon of a recipe, but we ate enough to make a single meal of it and pitched the rest. Blergh!

Yes! I'm many years late to watching the Great British Baking Show. But watching it has inspired me to bake more (well and quarantine of course!). I tried to make a Victoria Sponge Cake. I've never had one before but it didn't turn out like I expected. The cakes didn't rise much and the texture reminded me and dd of corn bread. The batter was extremely thick which seemed odd to me. Also I only had 9 inch cake pans and the recipe called for 8 inch.
It wasn't horrible, but nobody wanted any more of it either!

I currently have the Pioneer Woman's Cowboy Quiche in the oven. Just realized I forgot the cheese. Oh well, guess I'll add to the top and hope for the best.

I made the same turkey chili I’ve made 1000 times. But the turkey was my local grocery store brand (which I didn’t think anything about because I eat lots of their stuff—it’s good quality). I usually get Jennie-O. Anyway, as it was cooking, it smelled GROSS. It smelled very strongly like turkey—not tomatoes or onions or spices. I thought it would be fine, but I took one bite and it was still GROSS. All I could taste was turkey. I thought I must be crazy, so I made by brother and SIL eat some. My brother said I was crazy—that ground turkey is ground turkey, but halfway through his bowl, he completely agreed with me. So did my SIL. We ended up throwing the whole pot out. And sadly, I threw out the other 2 packages of turkey in my freezer, it was that gross.
I really don’t like turkey. I don’t like Thanksgiving turkey or turkey lunch meat. But ground turkey usually just takes on the flavors of whatever I’m cooking with. But this turkey was TURKEY. Blech.

I made a new fried rice recipe. I thought it tasted ok but my family acted like I served them dog food. I finally put the leftovers in the garbage today as they aren't going to eat it.

My only fail was making cup cakes using bread flour - then I mixed them too much so the gluten went crazy and they were not so good

I tried the Disney churro bites recipe. It was horrid, tasted like cardboard.

I'm in the midst of making this pizza dough for dinner tomorrow night. We'll see what happens tomorrow but it just doesn't feel right. I'm afraid I've wasted my time so I'll come up with a secondary meal just in case.

I've just recently made caramel rolls and a pan of bars and overcooked both. I think my oven is running a little hotter than it should since I'm normally a decent cook/baker. At least that's the story I'm telling myself LOL.

You'd think blueberry muffins would be a slam dunk. I used whole wheat flour that I think was off. What a waste of some good blueberries.

I made Pioneer Womans meatloaf --- Ive made it several times with no problem. This time? I baked it twice and long and I still didn't think it was done enough. Not sure why the difference this time, but it was a flop.

I made lemon coconut pull apart bread from the How Sweet Eats blog. It sounded so good. But it was a lot of work and came out meh. The bread part was too dense and heavy. And the lemon/coconut flavor wasn't strong enough. I finally threw out the last half of the loaf.
Then I had lemons and coconut left over. So I made lemon/coconut cookies. Now those were delicious! 😂

Cheesecake. That was a huge fail. I either need a different pan, different method of baking, or different recipe. Maybe all three.

I tried to make fish a couple times & failed both times. Not the fault of the recipe; it was me. I overcooked it. Didn't adjust well enough for the smaller size of my fish filet.

I forgot to make pizza dough (and haven't been able to get it with my grocery pick up) and decided to use crescent rolls that come in the tube that you pop and roll them out. They are both dough right?
Well, if you want a buttery super thin crumbly pizza crust those work great. Otherwise, it's better to remember to start the pizza crust a few hours before dinner time instead.

Dump cake. We made it for Easter dessert. DH picked blueberry pie filling. It was okay, but we thought that the cake mix crust was a bit too sweet. We're used to oatmeal fruit crisp, bisquick cobbler, or pie crust cobblers, so it wasn't what we were expecting. But it wasn't awful.
DH's mom makes a version where she mixes up the cake mix and pours over fruit instead of just using the mix powder. We're doing that version next because we both know we like it a lot.
I got a foodservice size bag of yellow cake mix to play around with different desserts, so plenty to try again.

Yes! Mine was also a cinnamon brown sugar mess. I decided to make some of the little rolled up treats that my mom used to make with leftover pastry bits. Only I wanted to do a whole batch and freeze some. I don’t know what I was thinking when I attempted the pastry dough. I did not make it like Mom used to and I knew it was a gamble, but I was tired and didn’t care. It was cracking and sticking to the rolling board as I rolled it out. I put one ugly, falling apart set in the oven and threw the rest of the dough into the trash. I should not have attempted it late in the evening when I was so tired. I ate a few bites of it and tossed it. I may try again tomorrow.
My other fail wasn’t so much in the taste of it - it was delicious. At least I got one meal out of it. Unfortunately my cat decided to try it while I was in the bathroom. I came into the kitchen and there she was, on the countertop licking into the pot of shredded pork with green chili sauce. I was pissed and threw it into the sink. I made myself a cup of tea to mellow out and then noticed she had snuck back up onto the countertop and was drinking the water that I had filled the pot with. She is really getting on my last nerve today. She got misted with water and we are not speaking.

I messed up the simplest thing in the world. Tastefully simple absolutely almond pound cake. All you do is add butter and water. And I skipped the part about the water and wondered why it never rose. But if you want to make a nice shortbread cookie, that’s the way to go 👍

My pancake "pouring the batter to form the pancake" skills, need improvement. I can't recall the last time I made pancakes at home. Crazy odd shaped pancakes, but still delicious.

I think the seal on my instant pot is bad; struggled with hard boiled eggs and Mac and cheese at Easter. Need to order a new one.

To make round pancakes, use a round shaped spoon or small soup ladle. I cheat a bit and use the silicone rings (for eggs) and they are perfect.

The yolks for the deviled eggs I made on Easter weren’t quite cooked through and then I dumped way too much salt in them. It wasn’t meant to be this year.

I tried the Disney Dole Whip recipe with vanilla ice cream and pineapple. I didn't freeze the pineapple (like they said to) and added it to the ice cream oooops! Soupy mess. After I froze it for a while it was okay. I think next time I will make sure all my ingredients are frozen.

Yep had that problem too. For me using a smaller spoon helped, still not perfectly shaped. I'm on a chocolate chip pancake kick right now.

Tonight I accidentally locked my oven while roasting potatoes and it would not unlock. It finally did a couple hours later, but the potatoes were charcoal, and the chicken breasts I was grilling (outside so no cooking smells) outside on my Ninja Foodi Grill overcooked by a few minutes because I got so distracted. We had to get out the giant room fan to push the smoke outdoors.

Hamburger helper. Admittedly I was just grabbing stuff off the shelf and tossing them in the basket when I did my first lock down grocery trip.
I cooked the cheeseburger flavored one. Blech! What a waste of ground beef. I guess I’ll donate the other boxes to a food pantry.
