Happy Mother's day to you all! I skipped last wk, as I thought our little group had sort of dwindled, so might do every other wk. Hope you guys are still enjoying this group. I know I am. It's definitely not as greasy as the single ladies thread, but oh well.! haha.
Plans for Mother's day? or if you're even a Pet mom? any plans? I am lucky to still have my Mom. I sent her money, as she is 4 hours away. She usually uses the mother's day money to buy plants. Both my girls will be here around 1030 and we are dong a little brunch.

No real plans for Mother's Day here. MIL passed in 2016 and my mum last November and my family has never made much of a deal out of it

I had a quiet Mother's Day, which is usual since we moved here. Both my sons and my granddaughter facetimed me this morning so they could see me open the presents they sent me. We were able to attend church for the first time since the lockdown started in March, but it was very different to 'normal' - nice, just different. Dh will be making dinner for me - he's doing roast chicken with loads of veggies and gravy.

It's not Mother's Day in the UK, so just a normal Sunday here...well, you know, the new normal-ish

Greasy? I don't participate every week because sometimes the topic isn't relevant but I do like to read the thread. Greasy...slippery, titillating..dangerous? Just because the topic isn't relevant to you, Chime in. like. Hey, I don't have that problem, or just a hi! I try to make them pretty generic. Maybe I don't?!

Ahhh. I never thought about that. Do they do Mother's day on another day? or not at all?

I have made a quiche and I have apple cinnamon scones in the oven. My mother (she lives with us) is still asleep. It's almost noon and I'm hungry! The rest of my family is on a mission to move my daughter home safely/healthily. I indulged myself last night by taking an online cocktail class and then watching Never Have I Ever while I lolled in bed. It was glorious.

my mom died in 2000. and we never celebrated mother's day much.. it was the day that marked the last day of ski season!! we skied every weekend nov- may as I was growing up. I doubt my kids will call.. or I would be very surprised. I may make coffee cake for lunch but am not sure. so it is sort of a non event. we can't go see anyone. my husband will call his mom. she lives alone at 93, but spends a lot of time with her sister.. who lives an hour from her. she is only 83..
my kids are all adults.. and they all appreciate me .. and express that at random times. that, in a way, is more meaningful to me.

cindyupnorth , I enjoy the thread and appreciate that you take the time to start it. If we go to every other week I will be there. My mother loved Mother's Day. When she was alive we made a big deal out of it for her sake. Now it's very low key. Since I can't eat, meals aren't special, because I would not be able to enjoy them. So, it's an easy day and my kids/dh will dote a bit. Sometimes there are tiny gifts. Though this year I don't expect anything and that's fine. Ods was planning to get me a hoodie for winter from his campus store. He told me about it and said that when campus re-opens next fallish he'll give me my gift. It's a thoughtful gift and I can certainly wait. He's going to be going to a different school for his teaching credential in a year, so I suggested that he wait until he finds out where he's going for that. Gotta represent! Enjoy your day.
P.S. My dh and I are currently hanging from the chandelier. Just thought I'd reference the other thread.

I can't always find the thread because it drops so fast, but I do enjoy discussing topics with women my age.
I will have all 4 of my children with me today. 3 live with me. My 2 older daughters are staying with us until they are financially stable. One is paying off her student loans. (Confession: they are getting on my nerves.) My oldest son will be coming over. We are getting take out. Got cupcakes yesterday.
I know I am getting 2 more global knives to add to my collection so I can excited by that. Need to try some new recipes so I have an excuse to use them.
My mother died in 2012, so I am missing her today. Mil lives 4 hours away. We haven't been to see her since this coronavirus stuff started. I feel bad for dh.
I am just sad that my youngest son is a senior. He "finished" school Friday. His virtual graduation is next Sunday. My calendar is full of all of the dates for the end of the year that aren't happening.
At least it is sunny outside. It is a bit chilly for this time of year. We are way under the normal temps for this time of year.

My daughters have texted me this morning. They sent a gift last week - so sweet and thoughtful. My family is hit or miss on Mother's Day and thats ok with me. My mom passed away in 2008 and we weren't close before that, so MD has never been a huge deal to me. So I'm just having another peaceful day at home.

No plans whatsoever.
DH went out and got flowers to take to his mum, and I got him to grab 3 sets. My brother is on his way down to see our mom (don't get me started) so he asked me to grab some. I took one set over to her and stood inside her door to chat quickly and came home. He just left here from grabbing his and is now over there.
But no plans other than to pick up where I left off on the true crime podcast I started yesterday, and continue with my diamond painting.
Happy mother's day to all who celebrate!

Quiet Mother's Day for me and I'm so ok with that!! DD and DSIL called me early today and we talked for a good while. DS (who lives with us) had asked what I wanted and I said with things being as tight as they are, nothing. He ended up getting me several bags of Chips Ahoy! DH is making me ribs for dinner and I'm watching a rerun of the Great British Baking Show. I'm content! I also want to say I look for the thread each week. Don't always have anything to add, but I, too, enjoy chatting with other peas my own age. Happy Day all!

I made lunch for my mother which I do most days now anyway but today I set the table with the good china and made dessert. Cut some peonies to bring in before last night's frost. Her gift was a plant as usual. Mother's day is the easiest gift giving holiday for me because she loves gardening and it is the perfect time of the year.

I’m British but living in the U.S. so we celebrated my mom and MIL in March on Mithering Sunday (although couldn’t really send anything this year). My DD21 is also in the U.K. so we just FaceTimed for an hour while she crocheted and I worked on a puzzle. DS14 is pretty useless at organising any kind of card or gift so he’s been playing video games after I made him breakfast!! Later today I’ll ride my peloton, make some chocolate chip banana bread, continue my puzzle, and continue watching the second season of Killing Eve with DH.

I’m on the fence about whether I want to finish making a trifle. Not having the greatest Mother’s Day. Walked the dog as usual. Having Indian take out for dinner. Will either finish Dead To Me or watch my regular Sunday shows.

I will call my mom later. She’s 91, and in assisted living just a few minutes from me, but the visitor restrictions are still pretty tight, so won’t see her. I know my brother talked to her this morning so I’m waiting a bit between calls. My sister talks to her regularly and is making arrangements to get some things to her later this week, so I will ask my mom if there’s anything else she wants or needs.
It’s supposed to rain again this afternoon so I’m not making any plans to go out.

No gifts this year. Local daughter visited on the porch and we face timed with far away daughter. Son who lives here is studying for finals.it is almost a regular Sunday. I bought my mother planters and delivered them Thursday. They were not home. They drove to a restaurant a mile from me( I live 15 miles from them) for take out. They passed 50 other restaurants on their way, most much better. We called her while we were all together today.

I'm sorry you won't be able to see her today. I don't know what the plan is to reunite those in facilities with their loved ones but I hope something is worked out to do this. I feel for the families and all the people in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, particularly those who don't understand what is going on.

No real plans for Mother’s Day. I am having a friend over in a bit to sit out on my terrace and drink some wine and visit IN PERSON on this picture perfect 85 degree day. We will social distance, it should be easy with just the two of us. I’ve got Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, and papers towels out there already in preparation. She’s bringing her own snacks and wine glass so we don’t need to worry too much about sharing potential germs. First time I’ve had anyone in my place since February!
My mother died 9 years ago, my sister 10 years ago, so MD is very quiet and somewhat melancholy for me. My son and his partner sent a gorgeous floral arrangement (it’s on my IG story for those who follow me) which always perks me up. They found the best florist not too far from me a couple of years ago, I love her work.
Wishing they were here, but that never happens on MD since they live across the country anyhow.
I hope you all have/are having a glorious day!

I got to celebrate MD twice! Somehow DH & DS decided MD was last Sunday, so they had a card for me and were quite surprised when I let them know they were a week early. Poor DS can’t keep the days of the week straight now with staying home all time. He gave me another card and a gift on Saturday. Even wrote in the card that at least he got the date right this time. Lol! He was quite embarrassed when he found it that he was still off on the date.
We didn’t do anything too exciting today. Just went for a long walk and I haven’t had to cook.

I just turned 60 a few days ago so I don't know if I still qualify for this group but for now I'll answer the question this week.
For me Mother's Day is normally celebrated at my parent's house (they live close by), my parents are both in their 80's. But this year because of the SIP I don't want to take any chance of infecting them so we are staying put and I sent my Mom a photo of me holding an enormous chocolate chip cookie with Happy Mother's Day spelled out on it that DH happened to pick up this morning for me at Whole Foods when he went grocery shopping. It was DH's idea to take the photo. I sent that with a Happy Mother's Day note and I'm going to call her as soon as I finish this post.
Once it's safe for us to get together again we'll have dinner all together and celebrate Mother's Day properly with my parent's. DS is always very generous with me as far as gifts go and usually gives me money to shop for my own gifts. I can't decide between a yarn winder and swift (which is what I want) or a flower vaporizer (which is what I need). Ugh. Decisions, decisions.

Hi All...its been a couple of years since I have posted...but I do recognize some of your avatars! Mother's day was quiet here, with a couple of facetime and phone calls from kids and grandbabies. I got my 'growl' from 3 year old Jax...that is just how he greets us during facetime. siiiigh. This is my first mother's day without my mom, as she passed almost a year ago. DH's mom lives in an independent living facility, so he stopped by with a card for her and spoke to her thru her window. It has to be tough for her, because not only are we not allowed to visit...she is also limited to her studio apartment. DH is also getting us some curbside dinner, that is a chore, as we live out in the boonies...so it is a 30 minute drive each way.
