Question: the second video, the screaming was so intense I got triggered & had to turn it off. What was she melting down about?

She likes the sound of her own whinging voice doesn`t she? "Whinging" is just the best word! So much better than the American "whining". My mother is Australian and I grew up being told to "stop whinging", hahaha. To me it just describes the person's actions perfectly.

Now masks are "muzzles". But liberals are the "snowflakes" Wow. That sign she is holding really gives you a glimpse into her character. Other than that, I am almost speechless when I look at that image. I agree! I actually had a strong reaction to that sign and gasped out loud in shock. What she is saying, that is is okay to have slaves wear masks...maybe I am reading as it is acceptable to place a human being into slavery. And her photo clearly depicts a person of color. It just evoked such a strong revulsion in me. I don’t get all this outrage over simply wearing a small piece of fabric to do your part to help limit the number of people that may die during this pandemic. It is such a tiny and insignificant request with massive health benefits, yet some people are going ballistic. I truly don’t understand their sense of entitlement.

she went in there itching for a fight - that is why she chose to film it. the staff was amazing - both of them. gotta love the dancing, cart cleaning bartender who's just happy to have a job, even dealing with people like *shelley* every day. ugh. Especially in Dana Point, which is an expensive beach community! I’m sure they do see this type of thing daily. I don’t live in Dana Point, but I frequently go to the marina there to walk and get a coffee. I used to take my son to what is known in the area as “baby beach” because it is inside the protected marina and there are no waves. There is a bubble float rope to mark off a swimming area for children and it is a safe ocean experience for little ones.

I truly don’t understand their sense of entitlement. Trump-Americans are only OUT FOR THEMSELVES. They do NOT CARE about 'the greater good' or 'helping others' they want what they want, when they want it. And they DON'T LIKE PEOPLE TELLING THEM WHAT TO DO!! (they don't mind when OTHER people get told what to do- or not do- just not THEM)

And seeing so much more of it during this pandemic is so sad to me. It is just difficult to wrap my head around the fact that the positive benefits versus minor inconvenience is so obvious to me. I was assuming they didn’t get it, but I guess they do, but don’t care because it inconveniences them. Sigh.

Honestly, that makes me want to cry when I see stuff like that. Yeah, I'm kind of an emotional person. NO ONE likes the current situation. Those poor service people deserve better. They did not sign up for this either.

My favorite thing about this is that she’s buying private things that an employee can’t get for her, because PRIVACY, but she’s gonna have no issue having an employee at the checkout stand scan her private things so she can pay. To be fair, a lot of grocery stores have self checkout now which does eliminate some embarrassment when buying certain things. Yeah, but if this woman is entitled enough to try to get in the store without the required mask and make a big fuss over it, she is not someone that is going to get embarrassed by what she purchases. I don't believe her.

I did a quick Google search and see that Shelley has received the opposite of what she was hoping for. Even her neighbors are angry with her for trying to spread possible germs in their Gelson’s and vowed to shop there more as a thank you for them making the store safe. I guess she has a reputation in her neighborhood. She is also a flat earthier and antivaxxer who doubts the moon landing was real. Shelley removed the video from her Facebook page and no doubt is dealing with a lot of flack. I also saw that there is a video where she participated in a discussion with scientists to argue that the world is flat, not round. There were 3 people from each side. I haven’t watched it, but I do plan to because I’m curious to see how anyone could think the planet is flat. And Shelley claims to have gone to West Point with the intention to become an astronaut. I cannot imagine an astronaut claiming the planet is flat. That piques my curiosity. Oh and her health issue is lupus. How does lupus come into play with masks? I know that lupus is an inflammatory autoimmune disorder, but how does that come into play with wearing a mask? Does lupus affect the lungs? I honestly don’t know. As I said, I have asthma and wearing a mask when my asthma is flaring up makes me feel like I can’t breathe, but I feel like I can’t breathe without a mask too. I just don’t go shopping during an asthma attack. But if I had to go out, I’m wearing the mask, asthma be damned. The mask is for the protection of others, I know, but it makes me feel safer too. For anyone else interested. Scroll down a little to see the flat earth video. sfist.com/2020/05/18/socal-flat-earther-becomes-internets-enemy-after-filming-mask-wearing-argument-at-grocery-store/

Guess I’m sitting my butt down on the beach! Try and stop me - stupid authorities - you work for us! Quit pushing BS laws.” So she purposely sets out to cause a scene and flaunt authority. Shelly might become the next resident 'commentator' on Fox news - She seems to have the qualifications: social media footprint, outlandish beliefs, self-entitlement, filming her every action and a bleach blonde.

Ooh Shelley, you're such a hero! Just for that I elect you to go work in a hospital with no mask. Show us your bravery, girl.
She's clearly a publicity seeker, filming her planned encounter.

I just looked up lupus, which Shelley claims to have, because I don’t know much about it and was curious. Mainly because I have an autoimmune disorder and the one thing I know for myself is that I need to avoid stress if at all possible because it can cause a flare up of my symptoms. I was curious if it was the same with lupus and it is. So Shelley should not be out trying to get into public scenes and potentially cause drama. It isn’t good for her illness. Now as to the mask issue, people with lupus need to avoid getting sick and it was recommended that they wear a mask at all times around people, even before COVID-19. Any illness is worse for lupus sufferers because it triggers their autoimmune system. So her claim that she can’t wear a mask is pure bull. And as to her sitting her butt on the beach, lupus sufferers also need to avoid sunlight. So Karen, I mean Shelley, either you don’t have lupus as you claim, or if you do, you are not very well educated about it, because in less than 5 minutes, I read these things that lupus suffers need to adopt into their lives to avoid flare ups.

Just disgusting. ETA: Oh, it's okay, no need to worry...... apparently the sign wasn't hers and she has apologised. Phew! That's okay then. She's a very fine person. /sarcasm

AussieMeg, thank you for sharing that the sign wasn’t hers. Her explanation didn’t make me feel too much better about it or her. My reaction was strong and instant and like you, I felt a physical revulsion when I read it. She claims she was handed the sign and someone took her picture before she considered the racial implications of what the sign said. Aussiemeg, just how long did it take you to feel sick to your stomach? I’m willing to bet your reaction was instant, like mine was. Like any compassionate person’s would be. I don’t accept that it took her a while to think about it. I think she realized she was being lambasted on the internet and possibly contacted by her previous employer who had received multiple complaints about the sign. Who accepts a sign to hold without reading it first? I would have received it, read it, reacted, and refused it within a couple of seconds. Her apology: “ Holding that sign up at the lockdown protest was a grave mistake and I ask forgiveness from all those who I have caused pain. As I had no sign of my own, it was handed to me by another protester and a photographer took the picture before I considered the racist implications. My intent was to take a stand for the freedom of all human persons and I mistakenly held a sign that conveyed the opposite. Please know that I respect the dignity of all people and I sincerely regret any suffering it has caused.”

The second I saw it I realised the hideous racial implications. How could you look at the sign and be A-OK with it, and not realise instantly how disgusting it is? I was in total disbelief, and I actually went straight to Snopes to see if it was real. I thought that nobody could be that disgustingly racist and thought for sure it had been Photoshopped. Sadly, it is 100% true. I agree with you that she's now backpedalling and apologising because of the backlash, and the potential for her to lose her job, whatever that may be.

There's a lot of 'privilege' going on here too Where are you seeing privilege? Was it the guns being pressed against their backs? I’m not condoning whatever went on there but you seem to misunderstand the meaning of privilege as is being discussed here. Not so sure she knows what “privilege” means.

She was so obnoxious I didn't bother finishing the video. She clearly went looking for a fight and attention; that's why she was filming before she even tried to enter the store. She knew what she was doing. I love the cart cleaner guy. And the manager who said something like "I was trying to explain to you, but I'm not going to argue with you" as he started to walk away. She was incensed by that because that's exactly what she was looking for - an argument. Ignoring those people is FAR better.
It's similar to the video I saw posted on TMZ of a guy at Costco. He's in the store refusing to put his mask on. So the employee told him to leave the store. When he started arguing the Costco employee literally just took his shopping cart, told him he wasn't welcome, and walked off with the cart. So funny! But that guy went on a second tirade when he got home too - every other word was the F word - but the prevailing message was "everybody else was wearing a mask. So they are protected from me and I am protected from them, so why do I have to wear one?" Just proving his assholian "it's all about me" mentality.
