She's prevented by HIPAA from disclosing her condition. No, dear, that means OTHER people can't disclose your condition. You can disclose it. Also, if you can't wear a mask, they will shop for you. Or you can shop online and pick it up. But no, Shelly is a special snowflake of the 'freedom' variety where consideration for others = 'tyranny'.
Good luck w/the lawsuit Shelly.

what medical condition would require you to NOT wear a mask? just curious. and she is a JERK. I'm sure there are some (I doubt she has one). But in that case, shop online and do a pick-up. Shelly is acting like a whiny snowflake. I'd wager she likes to call people who are ACTUALLY HARMED by others, snowflakes.

what medical condition would require you to NOT wear a mask? just curious. and she is a JERK. Maybe something like COPD or other lung condition where a mask might restrict air intake? But then I’d think you’d want to not get a respiratory virus I don’t know Skin allergies? A mental issue like diagnosed claustrophobia? But she comes across as looking for a fight so who knows And for Pete's sake they work in a store they’ve seen the stocked shelves & what goes in them they’ve seen tampons, condoms, poise pads & hemorrhoid medication before & they wouldn’t know it’s yours or your shopping for another unless you tell them

This is ridiculous. The manager and greeter/cart cleaner handled it well and didn’t cave to her. If more people stand up against Karens they will learn they can’t always get their way just because they think they’re special.

BTW you usually have to disclose the medical condition someone is supposed to be discriminating against during a lawsuit. I’ve only seen one discrimination suit my self in court but keeping the medical condition nebulous and vague was not possible
So good luck to her & her mysterious medical condition when the lawsuit discovery begins.

"I have private things I want to get that I don't want you to see" is a pretty dumb reason to say no to them shopping for her... cause they're going to see those items at the checkout counter, now, aren't they?!? eta: and apparently Shelly Lewis has NEVER done any online shopping? "how does that work? I'm going to give you my private credit card information...??" She's ONLY an attention-hound, for sure.

Here's another one.
America seems full, these days, of raging selfish people.
Or maybe cellphone cameras being everywhere have shown us how angry and ragey too many Americans are. It's hard losing your place at the top of the privilege totem pole.
"When you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression".

a comment (below) on the second twitter thread is probably somewhat accurate... other people working in customer service say the only difference now is more cameras.
"Ask anyone in retail or service and they will tell you that middle aged white women are the absolute worst. Not only that, any other race would be beaten and jailed for even thinking about act like them OR retaliating against them."
here's another good (and very accurate) one: "Her sense of entitlement is, I believe, a psychosis. And she's annoyed that the store employee, who's just so happy to have this job, is grateful. She seems resentful of his happiness. I would venture to say that this is her life long M.O." so basically, she's a miserable bitch on a good day, and she decided to film her experience during a bad day... for why, exactly?? so we all can see how much of a miserable bitch she is, too?
I also really liked this one (I'm paraphrasing, because I can't find it again):
'people mistaking temporary inconvenience with oppression have no idea what real oppression feels like.'

And once again we prove that American's are assholes. My fellow Countrymen/woman can be so embarrassing. Fortunately, I think her behavior is pretty atypical of most Americans. The manager did a great job of remaining calm in a very stressful situation and the bartender turned cart sanitizer who was dancing as he sanitized carts was awesome. I think they are more typical Americans.

I live in a city that is almost 50/50 black/white. I am multiracial. I have worked retail in several stores here.
IME, it is a falsity to assume that white women are more likely to be nasty and abusive to service workers than POC.

No shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service. Sorry Shelly. And I wish stores would enforce those rules. Stores that have signs saying you "must" wear a mask in the store. Then you go in the store and people are not wearing masks. Pisses me off. Either enforce the rule or take the sign down and I will go to a store that DOES enforce the rules.

I’m really glad the manager stuck to the policy and did it with a smile.
I’m so fucking tired of moron trumpers refusing to wear a mask. If their stupidity means they all catch the virus and and poof they are gone, I won’t lose one second of sleep. Maybe because of the virus, trumps base “will magically disappear”.

I had a corneal ulcer last week so I had to go to the eye doctor. I didn't want to go but I knew something was wrong. When I made the appointment, they told me I had to wear a mask. Fine by me. I have been wearing one anyway. Before the appointment, they texted me again that I MUST be wearing a mask or I wouldn't be allowed in. Okay, good. I am feeling pretty safe about going. I get there and half the people in there weren't wearing masks. The staff all was but a lot of people shopping for glasses and waiting for eye exams weren't. Pissed me off.

what medical condition would require you to NOT wear a mask? just curious. There was a guy on the local news who claims a medical condition where he needs to see his feet or he could stumble and fall. It wasn't clear if it was some sort of balance issue or muscular/lifting his feet. DH and I looked at each other and burst out laughing because there is no way the dude in question has seen his feet in several years. IMHO, if you are that unbalanced, you are a danger to every other person in the store and should take up the offer of curbside shopping. Or maybe he needs a different type of mask because ours make no difference in our ability to see our feet.

I think we are going to see a lot of these “freedom/maga/patriots” emerging more often—they see how much $$$$ the hairdresser in TX, the bar owner if Shafy’s Bar in Albany have raked in with the GoFundMe coupled with publicity.

I want to know what she thinks she is buying that is so private. And how does she feel about the checker seeing it? And touching it when they scan and bag it? Obviously we all know that people working in grocery stores are familiar with their stock and probably have at some point loaded those items onto the shelves and have certainly checked people through at the checkout stand with every item in the store.
How dysfunctional do you need to be to feel so ashamed of what you buy from the grocery store? Has Gelson’s added a porno aisle? I don’t believe she has a condition that prohibits her from wearing a mask either. I have severe asthma right now and feel extra claustrophobic wearing a mask and trying to get sufficient air, but I would never put on such a shameful display. Have them shop for you or use Amazon for the embarrassing stuff.
