Hey everyone! My lunch yesterday with my mum and my dd's was so fun ... we played the hardest game of Scrabble EVER My mum is a Scrabble genius and she struggled Dd#1, Emma, won ... while making a friendship bracelet at the same time Ex is coming over to mow the lawn today ... yay for that but not yay that I have to see him again. this. week. Now that I live alone I don't have to cook every night but I know that many of you do so this meme is for you I, once again, have no idea what I'll be having for dinner tonight ... it's only 8 am so I have time to decide What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Happy birthday sueg

Hi guys! It's Sunday morning and I'm crocheting away while I drink coffee.
We are having a 6 person bonfire tonight. Me & Jeremy + my friends Chris & Wendy. Chris & Wendy set me and Jeremy up on a blind date. Their significant others will be there too. We will all be outside and social distancing. But I miss my friends. Dinner will be some kind of take out or maybe pizza. Whatever the group decides on.

Dinner here tonight is Korean marinated pork. No idea what sides - weekend meals are DH's domain! Yestrday when he was out, he stopped by my favourite cake shop, and there are two little pink boxes in the fridge, containing what are sure to be yummy cakes for my birthday!
I have had a lovely day - facetime chats with my dad and then with my boys. Sophia was so funny again - when she saw all the faces on the screen, she broke into a huge smile, then started babbling on at us all. She was calling both my sons 'dad' - younger son has grown a beard since he's been working from home, so they look more alike than usual!
I received some lovely presents - the boys bought me two Yotam Ottolenghi cookbooks - one is simple meals (fast, few ingredients) and the other is vagetarian, sorted by the main vegetable. I had mentioned to my younger son when we were in a bookstore during my last visit that I had seen Ottolenghi on Masterchef, and that his food looked good, so he obviously took note. DH bought me a couple more jigsaw puzzles - good timing, as I have just finished my previous one this afternoon.

Hi everyone! We are having shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn cooked in a pot with Old Bay. I am from Maryland, so love Old Bay!
That's nice of your ex to mow for you. I have to mow today too. Just mowed a few days ago, but with all the rain the grass grows fast. My husband is busy planting all the flowers he bought. I love to mow but hate planting, and he hates to mow and loves planting, so it makes it easy.

The arrows are all delighted to help you celebrate your birthday today! I made a cake for them and put it in a pink box so they could feel like your soulmates, sueg, but they are having difficulty opening the box. Alas, they have no arms. But the celebratory spirit is high! Our spirits here are also high as we are hoping to eat a normal meal this evening. I had hoped to make a new recipe-Ham and Corn Fritters. It uses chunks of fresh pineapple. Thanks for the thread. So happy for you that you had a ladies day! ❤️

Hi guys! It's Sunday morning and I'm crocheting away while I drink coffee. Well thanks a lot for ruining my quiet Saturday morning! Need to check the calendar first thing in the mornings I suppose. I have a roast thawed so that is going to be dinner tonight. Plan to add some potatoes and carrots. That should give us some nice leftovers for the next few days. The rest of the day will be spent cutting out some sewing projects and doing a bit of mending. We are supposed to have rain and thunderstorms for the next few days, but it will likely be minimal if we get any. I need lots of rain so I can test out my rain guage!

Cadoodlebug. you seem to have fruit salad very often and I am wondering what you have in it? I love fruit salad but don't always seem to have a large choice of fresh fruit all at one time.

Dh wanted to get take-out tonight, but ds is still not comfortable with the idea, so dinner will be grilled brats and vegetables.

Cadoodlebug. you seem to have fruit salad very often and I am wondering what you have in it? I love fruit salad but don't always seem to have a large choice of fresh fruit all at one time. Always sliced bananas & strawberries; 1 or 2 of blueberries, blackberries, raspberries; in season watermelon/cantelope and/or nectarines & red grapes. Luckily in CA we have pretty good fresh fruit year round.

Hi ladies. I Can’t believe haven’t checked in a few days! I got sidetracked with everything going on. 🤦🏻♀️ Hope everyone is well!
Tonight I’m doing a charcuterie board with crostini, Brie, Toscano, prosciutto, olives, grapes and homemade cream of mushroom soup.

Hi Everyone! sueg I am so happy that you have had such a nice birthday! leannec I am so happy that you enjoyed your time with your daughters and your mum. cadoodlebug Your fruit salad makes me want to make one. But I need to go buy the fruit. maryland I hope that you have a riding mower. jeremysgirl Enjoy your evening with your friends. Everyone’s dinners sound so good. I don’t have a clue what to make for dinner. It seems the wild card child is on strike from my cooking. I may make the beef dish he likes or the chicken spaghetti with olive oil that he liked so much. You are all in my thoughts and prayers!

Your fruit salad makes me want to make one. But I need to go buy the fruit. One tip: when I buy strawberries, I immediately put them, unwashed, in 3 large glass jars. (They were originally mayo jars but you can't find glass any more, everything is plastic!) They stay good for at least a week or longer in kept in those glass jars.

Lovely day here and I'm moving in slow-mo and just puttering around the house.
Remember that wonderful DH of mine who hates doing chores? Well today he tore out the backside of our barn where we had some rotting wood and is replacing it with new siding. He's all up for projects, when they his own.
If it doesn't rain, we'll grill out hamburgers tonight. If it's raining at dinner time I can come up with a Plan B because the fridge is full.
KelleeM , good to see you here yesterday (and today!!). We miss seeing you here every day...keep dropping in.
cadoodlebug, I eat fruit salad almost every day and just load it up with every bit of fruit I can. I'm going to try your strawberry tip.

sueg, wishing you a very Happy Birthday! Sounds like it's been a very nice birthday. The best present over the past year has been your adorable Sophia. leannec, glad to hear that you had a nice day and a good Scrabble game. I hope it lifted your spirits. jeremysgirl, have fun. cadoodlebug, thank you for the tip about strawberries. Part of cleaning up mil's house is goign through the large amount of glass jars in her kitchen. I'll keep a couple of Bell jars for strawberries. I miss fruit so much. This is my favorite time of year, because fruit is so plentiful, especially my favorite melons. I'm tired after a few days at mil's house. So, I'm being a blob. I am glued to my recliner until I take my nap. Grocery shopping is needed and ods is going to go tonight when it's not crowded. That means that I'll make pasta ameritriciana, because I'm out of other stuff. Enjoy your day my lovely tribe.

Hi well today could be anything. I think we will have lamb chops for dinner. I have oodles of vegetables that I will roast and maybe some chocolate.
I am doing so much better since I added another medication. I don’t hate my dad any longer. My mental health is deteriorating but there are still arrows we can use to fight it. Thank you, all of you, for always having my back. I love each and every one of you for your supportive words. They truly mean so much.🥰❤️

the boys bought me two Yotam Ottolenghi cookbooks Happy birthday! I'm not familiar with Ottolenghi and really enjoyed poking through his website. I think we might just have his French beans and mangetout with hazelnuts and orange since I have everything on hand. DH and DS are going "hunting" for something to grill on the charcoal grill we gave DH for his birthday in March. He has finally taken it out of the box. As much as I love DH taking over Sunday dinners, what it really means is he will take care of the protein and leaves me to do come up with a couple sides.

It is an absolutely beautiful day in Niagara! I went to the Horticultural Gardens. The lilac garden smelled like heaven. After a 5km walk, I drove down the Niagara Parkway all the way to Niagara-on-the-Lake. Peaceful and beautiful drive. Brought along a picnic lunch and ate it at Queenston Heights. www.niagarafallstourism.com/play/outdoor-recreation/niagara-parks-botanical-gardens/Dinner is going to be home-made potato salad and potato/cheese/bacon pierogies. There is a little shop close to me where they make all kinds of homemade pieogies. Delicious flavours like Chicken Buffalo, Philly cheese-steak, apple pie, blueberry cheesecakes and so many more! They are expensive, but my treat during this pandemic and I am supporting a small business. They also have chicken parm and home-rolled cabbage rolls, buffalo mac & cheese, regular mac & cheese and lots of soups. They will make vegan & gf things as well. The most favourite that they make are meat buns. These are a Mennonite yeast bun that has been filled with a mixture of cooked ground beef, seasoning, gravy & a bit of mashed potatoes. They roll out the yeast dough, cut into sections and then put the filling in the middle and tuck the dough underneath, let rise and then bake! They also make these meat buns with buffalo chicken. Kinda like a pizza pocket but with meat inside. This has been my self-care in this pandemic. The food is so good and is home-made. As a single person, it is difficult to get excited about cooking for 1. I know that they are following all the safe-food preparations & wearing masks. Only 3 gals operate this business. They put the list on facebook on Friday for pickup the next Thursday. All frozen & so yummy!

After two pallets of sod put down, a pickup-truck-bed of sand spread, three large spots cleaned and "plowed for the aforementioned, and a collection of bags, barrels and bundles for the yard trash pick-up, I'm enjoying and well-earned day of rest. The new grass looks so good so I think it was worth the effort although my back might argue the point. Wishing you the best birthday ever, sueg! Chats with family, especially with that precious granddaughter, are the best celebration. I chuckled at your comment, GypsyGirl. I can't keep the days straight either. Loved your tip about fresh fruit and the jars, cadoodlebug. I've never heard that before but will definitely be giving it a try. What a cool option for meals, jubejubes. Cooking for one is definitely a challenge. Dinner here tonight will be a pork tenderloin. If I can scrounge up all the ingredients, I think I'll make a honey-garlic sauce. There are both new potatoes and green beans which need to be used pronto so they will be the sides. And DH requested a cranberry cake and week or two ago so I think I'll throw that together. I put bags of cranberries in the freezer just for that purpose. Enjoy the weekend wind-down everyone!

Well, I have given up on the kielbasa for now and stuck it in the freezer. Just when I was going to start cooking last night, my neighbor called. They’d ordered two pizzas but received three, and did we want one? So pizza it was.
Tonight is that easy Korean beef made with ground beef. The 11yo has been requesting it. Plus steamed rice, and all the veggies that need eating.

i had a bag of salad that needed eating, but salad sounded very unappealing. I ended up roasting a pan of assorted veg that was laying around and serving it over the salad greens with dressing, pecans and dried cranberries and it was delicious.

I am making chicken and gnocchi soup with the leftover rotisserie chicken, the bag of gnocchi that got forgotten in the back of the fridge and the usual partners in crime. I'll have to dig in the freezer for the spinach. I would love to have some fresh breadsticks with this, but I am not feeling that ambitious. Hope you're all doing well!!!

Just our small family. We usually eat off of it for a couple of days.

Happy birthday sueg ! Both of those Ottolenghi books are wonderful (I assume you're talking about 'Simple' and 'Plenty' or 'Plenty More'). I don't have them, but a friend does, and I've had and made a few dishes from them. It was only DSO and I home for dinner, so we had something simple - Malaysian chicken satay sausages with mashed potato. I don't really love sausages, but these ones were delicious. Especially with some homemade mango, ginger and chilli chutney on them.
