So, will it be 14 days and quite a few of these people both protestors and first responders will be sick with Covid?
This whole thing just makes me sick. All of it.......
These business’s that have been broken into and looted after being closed for months. Will they even begin to survive?
I’m so sad.
Lori Lightfoot had them raise the bridges in Chicago to keep the protestors to one side of the city. Hopefully that helped.
Sadness.......

oooh probably. esp the ones hauled in to jail, but I guess they were willing to risk it. They are probably the ones that think it's all a hoax anyway.

We're so disgusted with all the violence and looting going on in Los Angeles right now. The police can't be everywhere and they can't get to places fast enough to prevent the break ins. Most of these places are mom and pop stores. It's just so infuriating.

Not just the people that were at the protest but also the people they are around ay home and work. Every person will come into contact with how many others. The hospitals are going to be slammed with new patients.

The entire thing is sickening. They’ll be sick. The stores they are looting will be done for good now and are probably minority-owned. It is senseless.

I just saw on CNN people leaving in a car after looting a store. And there in plain site, the license number. How stupid.

My dad mentioned tonight that the losses these businesses are sustaining will most likely not be covered by insurance because they are resulting from criminal offenses. I hadn't even thought about that (with apologies if this topic has already been discussed here). The death of George Floyd was horrific. So is the destruction taking place across this country.

I wonder what are parents, grandparents and great grandparents would have posted in message boards back during the civil rights era.

I hadn't even thought about that (with apologies if this topic has already been discussed here). The death of George Floyd was horrific. So is the destruction taking place across this country. Is there some sort of loophole for insurance companies in cases of civil unrest? (It would not surprise me if there were.) What makes your dad think that insurance won't cover damage due to "criminal offenses"? My husband and I owned retail stores and had to deal with theft and criminal damage more than once. (The most expensive being a $20k claim, the bulk of which was damage to our front windows and doors. Thieves drove a vehicle into our front door and destroyed the front of the building.) Insurance covered our losses.

Omaha Scanner is live-streaming. It’s a combo of black and white. They are breaking just about every window at ground level in downtown a Omaha.

I don’t remember it being this bad in 2014 when that officer (Van Dyke) killer a 17 year old kid (McDonald). We lived next to the John Hancock building on Lakeshore back then, and I remember seeing Lakeshore Drive being shut down by hundreds of protesters running onto the roadway. There was some amount of looting but I don’t remember violence of this degree.
I totally understand that our voices are not being heard when it comes to police brutality and racism. However, burning, damaging, and looting is not the answer and there are other ways to cause a scene without affecting business owners. (I know this was mostly on Michigan Ave and the Loop here, though.)

Watching coverage on CNN of the various cities (LA, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia) there is a different vibe from the protests in Minneapolis. The anarchy in Minneapolis was in a lower middle class area with many small independent businesses, some of which are minority owned. What I am seeing now is the looting happening on Melrose Avenue in LA, downtown Washington D.C. and Center City Philadelphia seems to be targeting high end stores and businesses. This is no longer about grief, it is just a smash and grab.

In Scottsdale they just looted Scottsdale Fashion Square, just smashing and taking things from the Apple Store, Neiman Marcus etc. armfuls of things and just destroying things. This is not protesting this is stealing. The news is showing the looters taking selfies in these stores with an armful of high end clothes etc. How is that protesting, this is someone just trying to go viral and get their fifteen seconds of fame.

I wondered if the anarchists were hoping to spread coronavirus. They certainly took advantage of everyone wearing masks.
It's definitely a combination of agendas out there, but I can tell you there were anarchists here in Minneapolis. Look at what burned - police precinct building, post office, bank, minority owned businesses. These are the targets of those who want to topple our government.
I love that yesterday, protestors and citizens were out with trash bags and brooms cleaning up the streets. THAT is my Minnesota.
Trump calling out MAGA to the White House does not help.

It’s probably a stolen car I'm not sure if it's the same one I saw, but I saw a group taking food out of a store as well and the license plate and their faces was pretty clear. And they stopped to take a group selfie with some of the stuff they had taken. ETA That last night on the news coverage they said that it was reported that there were several cars with no license plates at all.

I have heard in several places that the protests start out peacefully and then a few people start to get unruly and it descends into chaos. The mayor of Minneapolis said the 20% of those arrested were from out of state. We saw that in Charlotte in 2016 and again this weekend. Carloads of people from out of state came with 2x4s and bats and things went crazy. I think there are some outside forces stirring things up. Shameful.
I’m heartbroken for people who are wronged by police and for the business owners who lose so much. I don’t see a way forward.

It was a planned lootfest, not part of the peaceful protest - that took place in downtown Phoenix. They were talking about it on social media throughout the day.

How can they not see they won't receive respect by clearly showing they don't deserve it.

How can they not see they won't receive respect by clearly showing they don't deserve it. Respectfully, this is an example of “othering” which perpetuates problems of division among the privileged and the systematically disenfranchised. It is not “they”, the problem is us. How can we not see that we won’t receive respect by clearly showing we don’t deserve it?

How can they not see they won't receive respect by clearly showing they don't deserve it. Please clarify the “they.” ETA: What, exactly, does one need to do to deserve the simple respect of being able to live through an encounter with police?

Crazy shit even happened in Salt Lake City. A white man with a crossbow was "attacked by black people". The article clearly shows there was a hell of a lot of white people surrounding him. The dumbass showed up to help the police because he supports them. I saw a lot of live coverage and want to add that last photo of an "injured" protestor is absolutely false. Two police officers picked her up and put her out of the way as they moved forward. She then fell to the ground in a dramatic fashion. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8373413/Shocking-moment-Utah-man-aims-BOW-George-Floyd-protesters-Salt-Lake-City.html
