my son prefers a scarf rather than a mask.. so I made him a double layered (tight cotton) fabric hankerchief style scarf that fastens with velcro at the back of his head. covers his nose, mouth and goes down to his chest.
whatever works.

Deaf people would find it hard to lip read when peoples mouths are covered by a normal mask.

Deaf people would find it hard to lip read when peoples mouths are covered by a normal mask. But the deaf person not wearing a mask would not help that. Everyone else would have to go without a mask to help it.

Would face shields work for those who are unable to wear a mask for medical reasons?

Would face shields work for those who are unable to wear a mask for medical reasons? I have been wondering the same thing. Especially for teaching. But the advice I have seen is that a mask as well as a face shield are necessary for protection.

We had a guy on the local news claim his "medical" reason for not wearing a mask was because of balance issues and he needs to see his feet. I'm not sure how the mask blocked his view of his feet. I was skeptical because the guy had a belly bigger than me at nine months pregnancy and I'm pretty sure he hasn't seen his feet in years. I'm not defending him, but I noticed when I wear a mask, it slides up a little to my eyes and it does prevent me from seeing my feet, but you just put it back in place and go. My BIL had covid and is now on oxygen 24/7 due to COPD-like symptoms. He wears a mask OVER the canula. No reason for someone already at very high risk of getting sick to go without a mask. This is me.
