For years, our family has each had the black dome-shaped device that is just a fan in a housing--that sits on the night stand. Takes up a 6 inch circumference spot on that limited space area.
Mine recently started to rattle. I tried to take it apart, and sort of gave up halfway through. I took out the screws that I could see, but casing wouldn't come off for me to access and clean the fan, which I'm sure is full of my and my dogs' dander, boogers and dust bunnies.
I now am using an app on my phone. It's called 'sound sleep' and it has pink, white, and brown noise. I like the brown.
I *had* been using the app 'bedtime fan', where it looks like a spinning box fan. But I like the lower tone that the one with the brown noise has.
I don't have to use it, but I do find that turning on the sound sort of signals my brain that it's sleepy time.

I have to use an actual fan too. Standing upright. I need the breeze and the sound, menopause sucks, and I mainly get hot flashes only at night. I tried apps, but they just don't cut it.

I use a white noise machine that came with 6 sounds, I prefer the rain sound. It plugs into the wall and I bought a second for travel because it is also battery operated. I think it is Phillips brand. Only $20 on Amazon, works for me!

I broke my standing floor fan, and somehow the ceiling fan is working quite well. Usually, it gets out of balance and makes an annoying sound. But lately, it's balanced and lovely.

I have a cheapie table top air purifier from walmart. I like the cheap ones because they are louder lol. When I am away from home, I use spotify on my phone to play brown noise on repeat.

I still have the one my grandparents had in their guest bedroom for the grandkids. It's gonna run until it dies, which I hope is NEVER. That and a gigantic fan.
When we travel, we count on being able to turn on the fan portion of whatever climate control is in the room. But we've also learned that that's unreliable, so either I bring along a travel fan or I pick something on the phone. (I have a pink noise one, that is just... noise, but there are a couple of rain ones that I don't mind.)
We still have one from Sharper Image, which we traveled with for a bit, but it doesn't really fill the space with sound the way a fan does.

I use “Heavy Rain Sounds” on my Amazon Echo Show 5. I use “Train Sounds” on my Amazon Echo Show 5. Every single night. I love it. I’m not sure I can sleep without it.

My husband in a CPAP sleeping next to me. This, plus an air purifier that runs 24/7 in my bedroom and in the summer a ceiling fan and a box fan. I’d like the box fan all year but it gets too cold in the winter months.

I use an app on my phone. Makes it easy to have the same sound when I travel for work. Not that I am doing much of that now. But. I’m normally gone 1-2 weeks a month.

I have a Sleep Easy. It has two settings on it for high and low and that's it. It doesn't block sound so much as blend sounds. I like it a lot. In the summer I use with my fan.

After going through 3 mini fans for white noise over the past 10 years, I downloaded an app on my phone. It’s called White Noise, and it has oodles of options for white noises. Right now we are enjoying Heavy Rain Pouring. Before that for over a year it was OBX Beach House Deck. I turn it on, and usually within 20 mins I’m out.

In the summer, the a/c provides all I need, the rest of the year I use a large floor model air purifier--I find it helps with my asthmatic tendencies. Those replacements filters are $$$ though!

We've been using the ceiling fan for a few years but just this year we added "Alexa, play thunderstorms" and like someone said, it signals our brains that it's time to go to sleep. Also makes me think of a cold rainy night. That and the fan keeps me cool on hot summer nights.

I have to use a BiPap machine and Oxygen compressor. The latter machine sounds like a bunch of cotton reels rattling around, just until it warms up. When I first had to use it I remember saying to my Mister "how are we ever going to sleep through that racket" We were asleep in under 10 minutes.

I use an app and use brown noise. We have a tower fan for noise as well but the app and it being near my ear is so much better.
