My dh is a huge motor-racing fan & has been marshalling at events for a few years now. It’s a big commitment (training, time, equipment, risk) but he loves doing it. This year he finally got picked for the British Grand Prix, but then covid happened. Then suddenly there were 2 race weekends announced & he managed to get picked for both of them so today he’s at his first ever GP meet as an official & he’s one of the few that will see any formula 1 racing live this year. 3 days this weekend & 3 days next. He’s a happy boy & he deserves it because he’s awesome 😎

I finally pulled out my portable AC unit (I hate it because it's sooooo loud) and my office is now a very comfortable 75 degrees. Other than the noise, I'm in heaven! We won't talk about the temps in the rest of my place tho.... flanz I can hear the love and happiness in your post. It makes me very happy for them and you! Well. Apparently I jinxed myself 🙄 Shortly after I posted this yesterday I lost power (and internet). Looks like a faulty breaker. So no AC or fans for me. It was 80 degrees in my bedroom last night. Electrician is due in 2-3 hours. 🤞🏻 For me please! By the way, if you have an older kid wondering what they want to be when they grow up, I highly suggest they look into becoming an electrician. It’s $275 for them to walk in my door. And yes, they’re reputable. They added some lights and outlets for me 2 years ago.

Dh worked half day today and has spent this afternoon in 90 degree heat adjusting and fitting a new (solid, heavy) front door I hated the old one with a vengeance so I'm a happy bunny

Wow, MichyM. I hope you get some nice cool air to sleep in tonight! And that is a lot of $ for an electrician just to walk in the door! I thought $75 or $100 for a plumber was a lot!

I'm back to the "good news" part of this thread. After 22 hours without power, fans, portable AC (it was 90 yesterday and upper 80's today), and internet...I am back up and running!!! And it turned out to be a faulty breaker (as well as something that happened to the line as a result) that they installed 2 years ago, so it cost me nothing. I had visions of it turning into a thousand dollar job while he was here, so I'm relieved.

My sister (posted about her breast cancer and not able to go help) finished chemo and and a double mastectomy and reconstruction (sent home same day). She had an easy recovery from the surgery and was told that she had a complete response to the chemo and won’t need radiation.

My son took the bar exam this week. He won't know the result for quite awhile, but he feels it went well. I wrote a book about an F5 tornado which devastated my hometown in 1955. I was really sad because the big, public book signing at the museum in my hometown had to be cancelled due to covid. However, the museum hosted a much smaller covid aware event at which I spoke and signed books. The book has been selling well in my hometown even though we couldn't have the public event. I'll never write a New York Times bestseller, but I have written a bestseller in my hometown!

My dd 14 completed her counselor training program plus practicum today and next week she starts getting paid as a junior counselor . My sister’s family flew in last weekend and tomorrow they complete the first week of their 2 week quarantine. My girls are beyond excited to see their cousins. When the border closed it felt like we’d never see them. They are really sacrificing a lot of time and money to spend time with us this summer. Dd11 is almost finished the last book in the hunger games series and then we plan to have a movie marathon!

Our zoo opened back up a few weeks ago. They take reservations and it isn't crowded at all. Most summers you can't squeeze past the other zoo goers. They have a new (10 week old) moose and they just opened the hippo/penguin "experience" after three years of waiting. So many fun new things to see. Our zoo is built on a mountain side and it is extraordinary. It does not get any tax money and survives on only donations and ticket sales. It is still in the top few zoos in the US. This little guy is one of my favorites. He isn't ever caged and just hangs out in the monkey area in a hammock most days.

Are they in a hotel? May I ask how they got to Canada? Flights? If so, how many? I would have a great place to quarantine for two weeks if I managed to get myself 2500 miles home to Canada and could get myself to the simple rustic cottage on Lake Huron. My sister could stock it with simple foods and for the first time I'd be up there alone, just me and my Kindle and iPhone. No tv. No internet but I'd use a bit of data now and then via phone. But I'm really really scared to fly. And I wonder what would happen if I did get sick. Would I even be able to get travel insurance right now???

Is it sad that it was hard for me to think of good news???
But I thought of some - after weeks of trying and planning I was able to snag a Yosemite wilderness permit for next week - my 18yo and I will spend a few days backpacking in Yosemite high country beauty -yay! 👍

But I'm really really scared to fly. And I wonder what would happen if I did get sick. Would I even be able to get travel insurance right now??? Their family flew on AC from LA to Vancouver. The middle seats on the plane were empty so they had no one next to them. There is one flight a day at 7:15am. My sister is Canadian and with the unification rules they were allowed to enter. She said the flight was different but fine. They all wore N95 masks. She had to fill out an on line federal document before flying that had her quarantine plan and other info. At the border she was asked why she was coming and of the senior grandparents they were coming to see would be in the house for quarantine (not allowed). My sister rented a home for 2 weeks for the quarantine. Their US medical covers them. She travelled with her husband and 2 kids.

got results back from biopsy on my breast and it was benign. need final "okay" from pathologist that image results match biopsy or something.... but cautiously optimistic.
and i got a *real* job.... i start august 18. since i split with my ex, all i could get was these part time jobs for flakey real estate agents (many of my best friends are realtors so not a slam on the real estate professional but in some cases, there is a reason these peeps are self-employed). OR for some strange reason, always working for an individual owner in the office alone. i have spent a lot of time ALONE. no hotline support, no one to ask questions. very little training. and for various reasons none have worked out. it's been 5 different jobs since 2018 people!!!!
i have a job for a real company, with a salary, i will be paid by direct deposit, have paid vacation, training, tech support, benefits and COLLEAGUES. i hope it works out this time - i am pretty excited!

I am very glad to hear happy news here today!
My little grandson will be turning five months old this week. He was two months preemie and just starting rolling over! He’s on point for his adjusted age one three months. He’s also tripodding sitting up, all goos goos and babbling, sucking fingers and toes. He makes me so happy!
My older daughter returns to nursing school in a week, split classes 50/50 in person and online. She passed her NCLEX LPN and is working on her RN.
Oldest DS starts a new job away from home tomorrow in a low COVID area thankfully.
Maybe I will finally get back to some crafting and sewing other than masks and scrub caps.
Keep up the happy posts!

When I was teaching (10-11 year olds), it often surprised me that some of of my students had such delays at birth/toddler. By the time I got them, you couldn't tell any of those things.

The Iowa High School state baseball and softball tournaments just ended--95% of the teams in the state were able to play their season without any Covid interruptions! Our 15yo was on a JV team and only got to play against the other teams in our district, but we were happy that the kids were able to play.

Had my hysterectomy successfully on Tuesday and am recovering well, I hesitate to say I'm nearly bored right now as no one is here but me and I cant do any of the things that need done with the post surgical restrictions but.. I'm trying to soak it in because I know in a few weeks I'll wish I had enjoyed it better;) Also got a clean mammogram last week, and my vitamin D levels in my blood have gone up to normal since starting taking it daily(5000iu) And my daughters pregnancy is holding tight, she had a miscarriage last August at 7 weeks so we've been slowly allowing ourselves to enjoy it this go around she's 16weeks
