I like to stamp a lot of sentiments in my scrapbooking pages and the odd card. I was happily using AEs crafter's ink but my first ink pad works but its almost disintegrated. Like the pad is smooshed down weird in spots so I ordered a replacement. Its gotten weird too...super thin and I find the ink stays wet a lot longer than it used to. So I'm in the market for something new, totally willing to try new brands but I would like it to be a true BLACK that dries fairly quickly. Any suggestions?

I love Gina K’s black amalgam ink. It stamps really clear and sharp and dries fairly quickly.

I've been really loving Versafine Clair ink recently. It's a true black and super crisp (not compatible with alcohol markers, though).

I have used Memento Tuxedo Black as my black ink exclusively for about 5 years. It stamps well on both cardstock and photos and I find it to be a really rich black.
I haven't replaced the ink pad in that time either, and it's showing no signs of running out!

If you watch hebas YouTube live from last week she stamps about a trillion black inks and gives recommendations. I really want to try the CTMH one. I use their regular black ink now or Stazon but both are really in need of replacement. youtu.be/C3GhN50mxow

Versafine Onyx Black is a classic in the cardmaking community. Rich color, fine detail, dries fast enough not to make a mess but can be heat embossed. I have a pad I've used for almost all of my stamping for the past 5 years (?) and it's in great shape. I got a re-inker after a year or two and I think it will last forever.

I got scrapbook dot com black pigment ink after hearing Heba rave about it so often. For a very black ink, it’s great. I get super crisp lines with it. I don’t like the case it’s in though. The lid is finicky to get on and off.

I find Versafine Black Onyx to be the gold standard. Doesn’t dry too fast (I like it with clear embossing powder also) and I’ve had the same pad for years. I don’t typically do any alcohol ink coloring. I do have some Momento Tuxedo Black and it’s the driest ink pad I’ve ever bought. Worse than my very old Staz-On.

Thanks for the recommendations! I just ordered the Gina K ink cube (all that was available) and took a chance on the new (to me) Pink fresh Studio black detail hybrid ink pad. We'll see how it works.

Archival Ink Jet Black. I have had several pads for years! No problems. I even have all of the Archival minis. They are a great, great ink!

Still a versafine (for sentiment) and memento (for coloring) gal. The basics Have good luck w/archival too. Had bad luck w/Gina K being too sticky. The others I've not tried.

I like the Versafine for sentiments and the Lawn Fawn for when I want a fast drying true black for Copic coloring etc.

I love the Brutus Monroe Detail Raven Ink. I am on the Inspiration Team—disclaimer. But I never would have tried it because I loved the Amalgam Ink from Gina K before that.

I like tuxedo black for a lot of stamping, but the Clair ink is fantastic for sentiments, especially with a stamp positioner.

I go back and forth between the Versafine Onyx for general stamping, and the Archival Jet Black for when I am going to do something that might get wet over top of it (colouring, alcohol inks, mixed media, etc.). Both are solid options, in my opinion. I have also been using my pads of each for years and they are holding up really well.

I've been really loving Versafine Clair ink recently. It's a true black and super crisp (not compatible with alcohol markers, though). Love Clair for stamps with lots of detail and it can be embossed because it dries a bit slower. Otherwise it’s Versafine Black Onyx or Archival.

Just getting back to this thread with my choices and results. I ordered the Pinkfresh detail black ink, Gina Ks amalgam obsidian ink cube (all that was available at the time) and scrapbook.com's hybrid black ink.
All stamp really well, too detail and dry fairly quickly. I do think the Gina Ks ink is a bit more black but its harder to clean off my stamps. The Pinkfresh ink pad is a bit drier than the others and I have to tap my stamps more to get the proper coverage. I'm really impressed with the SB.com hybrid ink, good coverage and its a deeper black than the PF ink pad. All 3 have felt pads as opposed to foam which I feel is more durable if you want to distress edges or anything.
All in all I'm happy with all 3 but I tend to grab Gina's and SB.com's more than the others. Any of them is definitely better for detail stamping vs AEs crafter's ink, plus the nature of these means that they dry faster. I'm not a huge fan of ink cubes so I might pick up a full size ink pad down the road.

If anyone lives near a micheals they had their Ranger archival black ink in the huge size ( like 4x6 ) on clearance less than $2
