Sonoma County has been hit with some big wildfires these last couple of years and it’s been smokey at my place. But this is the first time I’ve had ash on my balcony.

Yes. And we have the one at lake Oroville and Grass Valley local to me. It's very smokey outside and my car is covered in ash.

smokey unhealthy air here.. we had 10,000 lightning strikes (overnight? last couple days?) the girl scout camp I love has been evacuated.. fire is nearby. we are conserving power across the state-- gov says we can do this!!! cooler tomorrow.
ash on my car and it smells outside.
it is not a good day to be a firefighter. I spent a summer fighting fire and I can only imagine...

Ashes covered my patio table this morning, and the air is smokey. One of my sisters' in Santa Rosa called this morning to say she is coming to stay with me--3rd time since 2017 due to fires. She was crying and is certainly feeling overwhelmed by it all.

Colorado has at least five fires burning and they have for over a week. Most of them are in the mountains and some are some pretty rural terrain and they just can't really fight them. Plus the area is full of beetle kill, so it is probably good it is burning, but it sucks to breath. They are protecting structures if they are near the fire zones.

She was crying and is certainly feeling overwhelmed by it all. I have quite a few relatives in Santa Rosa. Fortunately last year was the only year they had to evacuate. Best wishes to your sister.
My aunt's house burned down in Lake County in 2016. She has yet to rebuild for a number of reasons but she is expecting to get evacuated from where she is staying now and if she does this will be her 4th year in a row of fleeing a fire. She's a mess. My friends that lost their homes in the Paradise Camp fire in 2018 are all dealing with various amounts of PTSD right now.
I was evacuated in 2017 and while my experience was much less dramatic than many others', it's just something you don't quickly forget. My go bags and cat crates stay out and easily accessible for 6 months of the year. If something happens and I am here I will be ok. My biggest worry though is being at work and not being able to get home if a fire breaks out. My cats won't make it.

I'm happy to see the norcal livestock evacuation people back in action !!! this group formed in 2017 I think and work to get the animals to safety.. this is so needed in times like these.
the fires are getting worse.. it should cool a bit tomorrow. but there are so many it is overwhelming. one of our major cross state highways is closed (I-80 at fairfield)...

They left Solano county off that list. Both Vacaville and Fairfield have fires going on. My sister had to go to Fairfield today, and she said it’s just downright spooky up there due to the fire.
It’s weird, because our air (15 min west/southwest of Fairfield) doesn’t seem that bad here. A little smoky, but that’s it. We’re on the water ... not sure if that makes any difference.
Maybe I’ll be eating my words tomorrow.

We're a zone over from the current evacuation warnings in the San Mateo/Santa Cruz fires. I'm officially freaked out. The lightning the other night was terrifying. We live in the middle of a couple of the open space preserves and are surrounded by forest. I have never been so scared. If we get the warning we'll leave. We have go-bags packed and we'll head down to my parents. I keep telling myself that stuff is replaceable. But it's still hard. Stay safe everyone!!

The largest fire near me just had their mandatory evacuation lifted, but now I’m hearing the helicopters. I know the winds are starting to pick up, hopefully they are able to continue containment.
I just can’t imagine how weary the firefighters will be this year, this is happening so much earlier this year.

Big Basin State Park--the first state park in our state, burned last night. the headquarter buildings and others burned.. these were traditional "park" architectural ones built by CCC in the 1930's. the park is filled with massive redwood trees. the trees should be ok.. though not having burned in over 100 yrs means the fire would have been hotter than the "normal" ecosystem fire burning.. more fuel to consume. this park was also the site of one of the early girl scout camps in the 1920's. I camped there and hiked there several times.. a real loss.
at least they opened I-80 again.. but these fires are going to be bad for a while. unhealthy air through the weekend. we have dense wet fog at our house on the sf coast this morning.

It's horrible here. The sky is the weirdest color I've ever seen and the smoke is so thick makes the sun look like a cherry sourball in the sky.
We've been evacuated from our homes since late Tuesday night. I live in the redwood forest near Big basin and the fires seem to be everywhere and the fire fighters are having trouble keeping up. Containment is still at 0% for our area.
We got out with pretty much ourselves, my SO's mom and her med supplies, the cats, and a few random things we grabbed in the panic of heading out the door. I'm seeing on Nextdoor that some people didn't even get their animals out which is heartbreaking.
No concrete news on our neighborhood today, though it was still intact last I heard yesterday. They shut power off so the trail cameras people have set up aren't working anymore to give information. They keep enlarging the evacuation area because the fire keeps spreading.
This is all so surreal. I've lived through the Loma Prieta earthquake, been in a tornado, survived countless western New York blizzards, hurricanes, etc, but they all come on fast and without much warning. This is a completely different level of fear.
Stay safe fellow Californians and help each other out if you can.

Amy Hollyfield...
”The fire chief in Unincoporated Vacaville says he will count today how many homes were destroyed by the Hennessy Fire which is part of the #LNULightingComplex but he thinks it’s upwards of 25. No homes in the city of Vacaville were damaged. Evacuation orders are still in place.”

My car was covered in ash the last 2 days. I commute to San Joaquin County and it just got more and more nasty as I drove down.
