How big are counties in TX and how many people do they have? Here in CA, our counties either serve a million plus or are so large geographically it would be very difficult to get to a dropoff point if there was only one.

It’s just the opposite here. They just installed a ballot box in front of my town hall. And while I’m out & about for work I’ve seen plenty of them put out on logical places like town halls, & courthouses, all over the northern part of my state
They have security cameras too So no fraud going on

i smell another Federal lawsuit.
this is another reason why Trump wants to stack the Supreme Court. he wants to pull a bunch of shady shit with voter suppression, reducing voting places and closing drop off locations. federal lawsuits will be filed and then when those suits make it to the Supreme Court, he is banking on his 6-3 to decide in his favor.

We have more that 2 weeks of early voting, beginning Oct. 13 with polls open on weekends and on some days from 7am to 7pm, so honestly, it’s easy and fast to vote in person and all this ridiculous squabbling about mail in ballots seems like much ado about nothing to me. Texans have plenty of opportunities to vote if they want to. |

I just went to my county clerks office to look at our county (which for reference is about 1/3 of the geographic size of Harris county and has less than a tenth of the population) and we have 17 locations to drop off ballots. But 12 was just too many for yall to handle - I guess everything in Texas isn't bigger.

I never planned on voting by mail since I plan on early voting and have also volunteered to work at a polling location. |

It’s voter suppression, pure and simple. The GOP feels their grip slipping in Texas so they’re going to lie, cheat and steal to try to win.
As others have pointed out, Harris county is enormous. A person driving from the far northwest part of the county to the central voting location might spend as much as an hour in the car each way, or more if traffic is bad.
But Abbott and the GOP only care about the red rural counties. They’ve told the urban counties to suck metaphorical rocks any number of times.

My county has like 16 ballot boxes. Our total county population is 240,000. Thankful for living in a Blue State.

I work in a totally different county / city than where my polling place is, with an hour+ commute each way. There is no way I would ever be able to make it to an in-person voting location. Thankfully, even backwards, red-state AZ makes it easy to do mail-in ballots with no reason required. What about the people who don't own a car, and have to take two-to-four (or more) different bus routes to their place of work, eating up their precious off-work hours? And who have any number of other perfectly valid other reasons why they couldn't do in-person voting? Oh, well,they're just SOL, and it sucks to be them, I guess... (/s) Why is voting by mail so gosh-darn scary to Texas? Just because something seems to have worked 'fine' up to now isn't a valid reason for updating it / making it easier NOW. It sounds like one of those old wive's tales: man asks wife, "why do you cut the ends off the roast, honey?" wife: "it's something my mom always did." Ask the mom, "it's something your grandma always did, so I started doing it too- figured it must have been a good reason." Ask the grandma, "I cut the ends off because my roasting pan was too small... why are you wasting perfectly good meat?" (moral, for anyone who hasn't figured it out by now: just because something was done a certain way at one time doesn't mean that reason is valid any longer.) |

The question becomes WHY. WHY is it that republicans just don’t want people to vote? WHY not make it easy and convenient? WHY is it that the republicans try, repeatedly to suppress voting? WHY? Republicans have long wanted to keep people uneducated and "in line". They want stupid supporters so they can feed them bullshit and they'll eat it up like it's a steak. What has a republican done to better someone's critical thinking? NOTHING. They remove support for anything that has the potential to make a person more educated. Why, because smart people don't buy their bullshit. |

Many parts of DFW had crazy long lines for early voting in 2016.

You know it’s only right-wingers Liking your posts, right? It really has NOT been fine up until now. The harder you make it, the fewer people vote. Your governor is worried that more poor people, working-class people, young people, old people, disabled people, people of color, new citizens, previous non-voters will vote this year if it’s too easy. Your needs are not always the same as other people’s needs. It isn’t right to make it MORE difficult for people to vote, especially in the middle of a pandemic. It’s how Republicans try to keep non-Republicans from voting. There’s no other rational reason for it. Voter fraud is practically non-existent. On the other hand, every election millions of eligible voters don’t or can’t or are disqualified. WHY make it harder to exercise a constitutional right? WHY figure if it doesn’t affect you personally, who cares? Governor Abbott cares. That’s why he’s making it harder to vote. Do you really not care? |

Not only people with compromised immune systems, but also anyone who lives with or cares for a person like that should avoid going out into hoards of people for any reason. I agree with the thought that we should be making it easier for everyone to vote *anyway* regardless of the fact that we’re in a pandemic, simply because it’s the right thing to do. |

That's wild! We have 36 drop boxes in a county of size of approximately 720,000 and 35 polling places. I would say about 1/2 half of the drop boxes were added late last year and early this year in anticipation of the upcoming election.
