There has been a lot of concern about mail in voting. I live in WA state which has been 100% mail in for years. For those interested, I just wanted to share what tracking one’s ballot looks like. I put mine in a drop box on Thursday, and by last night all the check off points were in the green. ETA: apologies for not resizing smaller when I uploaded it to postimages!

California ballot tracking is almost exactly the same but it has dates on some of the milestones.

That’s pretty nice. I just got one email confirmation that my ballot was verified and it will be counted in this election. I had signed up for tracking alerts via text, but I didn’t get any.

My son lives in Canada, got his US ballot to vote by mail. He voted and was able to go to a site and confirm receipt of the ballot. His arrived in Dallas on Tuesday of this week.

Impressive! Connecticut has a website where we were able to check receipt of our absentee ballots (they got 'em!) but it is nowhere near as fancy as that one.

WI has similar tracking too, which I found reassuring. I handed mine back in to the town clerk without mailing it and a couple days later it was marked as received. Just read somewhere yesterday that WI is one of like four states that can’t count any of the 1.4 million ballots (if all requested mail ballots are returned) until Election Day. Very likely the total numbers from WI won’t be known that day.

Yes, the ballots are opened and fed through the machines at the various polling places, being counted along with the votes being cast that day. The tracking was really useful... I requested my ballot a few days after SO. He got his, but I didn't get mine. Turns out I only thought I requested it. I was glad I could check.

Mine does not have the signature verified or vote counted in our ballot tracking. Ballot tracking is new here and I’m sure they’ll get with the program as time goes on. I suspect mail in voting might become more normal here so I expect the system to stick around & improve. But they do contact you back if your signature is in question.

I wish we had that kind of tracking in my state/county. All I could do is verify that my ansentee ballot made it back to the county election office, and what day it was marked as received.

Same state, different county. We can only see that it was accepted. Still, mail in voting just makes sense.

I couldn’t find anything like that for Virginia, but when I received my ballot by email, they requested that I acknowledge receipt of the email. I missed that step, so when I went back to the email to see if there was a link listed to confirm that my ballot had been accepted, I sent the email. An election official from the country then emailed me back and said that my vote had been counted. I thought that was great service!

I'm in Illinois. We have a tracking website. I put my ballot in the box on Tuesday the 20th. So far, it has not been recorded as Accepted - slightly disturbing.
UPDATE: I called my County Election Board and they said they got so many the first day the boxes were open it took them a few days to catch up. Ballots from the 20th are being processed today so I should check in a couple of days. Yay!

We mailed our ballots back shortly after receiving them. I checked just now on line and my ballot was received and counted.

Ours (Boone Co, Illinois) just shows the date it was requested, the date it was mailed, then the date it was received back. All green checks for me. Wish it had as much info as yours does!

Man...that's a nice tracking system! Oregon's sucks compared to that. We can log in and see that yes, we were mailed a ballot and then it will update to show the date the ballot was received. That's it.

This should be a "template" that all the counties use. I mean, shouldn't it be the same no matter which county we're in? Now I wanna email somebody in WA state government about it....

In Arizona it just shows that it is accepted - I like the level of detail in your tracking system.
I am a poll worker and went through training again recently. The lady leading the training was very good in staying neutral when talking about all the myths being propagated in the news by certain politicians, lol. Not only is mail in voting safe and effective, but you can't just show up at a poll to be a poll watcher. We almost had an arrest during the primary in August (unrelated to "poll watching", it was something else), so I'm pretty confident the poll inspector at my location will take not any shit, lol (not that we are expecting any problems, but you never know!).

My state's ballot tracker shows the date sent, returned and status, which is accepted. I can look back at my history, which shows I first Advance Voted in 2008!

Do you know anything about how strict they are with the signature matching? I am worried it will be me whose signature does not match and they don't accept it. What are they matching it with anyway? When I registered to vote many years ago? I am sure my signature has changed. I have always voted in person before. I wanted to drop it off this week.

No need to respond pudgygroundhog. Not that you had to, anyway. I just got back from voting in person! I just had to set a man behind me straight that there were social distancing markers! He said "whatever lady" but I noticed he stayed further away from me after that.

When I registered to vote many years ago? I am sure my signature has changed. I have always voted in person before. I wanted to drop it off this week. I have to be honest - I don't know. None of that was covered since we were training for in person voting. I'm in Coconino County and I have found the election board to be helpful with questions. You could always reach out to your local office with questions. I know that if your ballot wasn't received and accepted in time, you can still vote in person. We had several come in for the primary in August who weren't sure the status of their ballot. When they were checked in on the pad it would show if their ballot had been accepted or not. If so, then they went on their way. If not, they voted in person. All voting is tracked in the database - so there is no voting twice or anything like that. I'm not sure how that applies if a signature is rejected.

It's very easy to check the status of your ballot in Minnesota too. I checked mine about a week after I mailed mine in and it was marked as received and that it would be counted.

mine was marked as received the day after I put it in the box but it took my county 8 days to get that info into the system. I suspect that each day the box is emptied they stamp everything with a date then it sits waiting to be processed By either a person or a machine but since we are new to mass mail in voting in my state I suspect people are doing the verifying. And volume is HIGH. People wanted those ballot to go straight back. We just don’t know what that means right now.

I’m in North Idaho and just saw yesterday that my mail in ballot was accepted and validated. My sister and I were out and about in Coeur d’Alene yesterday and she was just going to “pop in real quick and do the early voting”. The line was VERY long, so we left since I had an appointment to get to.
I’m glad it looks like there’s going to a strong turnout, but I think unless you voted by mail, you may be in for a long wait to vote this year.

Our tracking in Pennsylvania looks much like Washington's, except we have the dates the ballot was mailed, received, etc. Also, we don't have signature verification.
One odd thing about our tracking - under "Status" mine says "vote recorded." In PA they're not allowed to process and count the ballots until Election Day. When you combine that with the fact that they will accept all mail in ballots until Friday after Election Day*, it could be several days before Pennsylvania gets things sorted out.
*as long as the postmark is no later than Election Day. They will accept ballots until then even if it doesn't have a dated postmark.

We get an email when it was received and when it was counted. Funny how important those two little emails are. My email accepting my vote came within hours of dropping it off and accepted (matching signature) within 24 hours. Pretty darn efficient.
