Am I missing anything with these? Its only a self healing mat right? I have been buying one from HL for $2.50 what works great in my Gemini. I just watched a video and she is gushing about it like this is the greates thing since sliced bread. youtu.be/W-HuOaMmiRUI known SU come out with one but that one at least is magnetic- I would like one but at the price of $24 I want to wait and see if people like it or not. ETA:New video showing different 'sandwich' for all the diecutting machines. youtu.be/Cag4ajMiBoI. Good tip for using the heat gun for wrapped mats.

They were $9.99 today and I was thinking about buying it at that price but thought too long and they're out of stock right now.

It looks interesting, but it doesn’t look like it comes in the Sissix Big Shot Plus size yet.

I bought the medium and small sizes. I have a Gemini which I’m hoping will work. If not, I have the Spellbinders Platinum 6 which should work. For the small, I’ll be using my Spellbinders Prizm. I can’t wait to get them!

I tried a self-healing mat with my Gemini. After the first pass, the mat warped so badly I couldn't even get it through the machine again. I had to throw it away. That was $9.99 right down the drain. Big waste of money. If that's what this "Magic Mat" is, I'll save the money and avoid the disappointment. Hard pass.

The very first time I used my mini Gemini Go machine it shattered the plates into pieces. It’s sitting on a shelf unused. I can’t imagine what it would do to a flexible mat. I’m guessing it would warp really badly.

I like the idea but I'm going to pass for right now. Looks like they only tested this on a Sizzix big shot (which I don't have) and in the Q & A section when asked about other machines they only answer with the measurements, not whether it will work or not.

Yikes! I wonder if you have a bad machine. I use my Jr Gemini all the time. I haven't had a plate break.

I bought an extended one on sale today. The medium size was sold out. I used a normal 6x8 Olfa self healing mat for quite a while and it did work pretty well until it totally warped, and never "healed." I couldn't find the size I needed at a good price so I went back to normal cutting pads. Hoping the extra real estate of the extended will last a while. I don't think I would've paid full price though. I was buying other things and threw it into my cart. Partly trying to avoid shopping from Sizzix but I have a Big Shot.

A while back I bought a self healing mat and had it cut down for my Sizzix. It works well with my simple dies but because of the pressure I need for the intricate ones the dies cut way into the mat and it doesn’t ‘heal’. Also some of the papers bled color onto it. I still use it but with a thin sheet of white paper on it. I run the intricate ones through my Gemini.

She talked about how it worked with intricate dies, and referred to the “travel” word die as intricate, but none of the dies I saw her use in the video were my definition of intricate. Right after she talked about intricate dies, she just cut a plain square. I have a lot of very, very intricate dies, which I need to cut in my Gemini to get them to cut cleanly. And I use the plates. I didn’t feel that the self-healing mat which I got off Amazon was that great. Is this one really good, for those who have bought and tested it?
Maybe I need to pick up the $2.50 one at HL.

The brand name is Sew-ologie or something like that its their own brand and got the 6×8, depends on your machine you might have to cut it. I use a thicker chipboard for shim. I can take a picture when I get home.

They’re here a day early! As soon as I have my after school chat with my daughter, I’ll be heading upstairs to try them out.

Did it bother anyone else in the video that she put the dies in the middle of the paper and wasted so much? All that mint tape?
LOL All I could think of was "why is she doing that?"
I hope the mat works - I would like one

Ok...I am full of disappointment right now. I excitedly tried to use it with my Gemini first with a simple A4 card front rectangle. Nothing. Not even an impression on the cardstock! Switched the Magic Mat for a regular plate and it cut just fine. Next up was my Spellbinders Prizm. Same thing just with a smaller rectangle. Didn't work there either. Both Magic Mats I got are thinner than the plastic plate they replaced. I haven't tried it yet with my Spellbinders Platinum 6 because it's currently buried underneath Journal Your Christmas stuff. The friend that shared the order with me is going to try it on her Big Shot and let me know if she can get it to work.
I'm disappointed. I really wanted this to work. I've order calipers to check the thickness to see if I can figure out a combination that will allow it to work. I love the idea behind it, but in reality, the Magic Mat doesn't work for me yet.

I use a thicker chipboard for shim. I can take a picture when I get home. I tried making my own with this brand of mat. Could only find the 12 x 8 mat ($4.50 after coupon). Hubby cut it down for me cuz he knows I can't be around sharp blades. I used it with my Big Shot and shimmed it with 3 layers of heavy manilla file folder (it was handy). It worked like a dream with intricate dies on Bazzil. If I get the Sidekick on my Christmas list, I have enough leftover to make a mat for that too. Thank you for the tip.

Oh darn! That is a bummer. When I used the Olfa self healing mats I actually had to layer two to make it work, but two magic mats would be expensive and probably too thick. I got mine for my Big Shot, just haven't gotten around to trying it yet. (I also ordered a set of extended cutting plates from amazon a few days before ordering and they sent me a box of six pairs instead of the one pair I paid for 🤫 so when the magic mat arrived a few days later I was kind of meh, do I even need that?) Anyway, I'll unpack it and try it out today.

I just tried it out with my Big Shot and had good results - it cut a midweight piece of cardstock (Moleskine notebook cover) cleanly in one pass, no need for shims, and the die I tested was large and moderately intricate (a decorated ornament die).
The description suggested that the Big Shot was the only machine they'd really tried it with, so I was hoping it would work out of the box. It sucks that other machines obviously require different thicknesses of cutting plate/shims.

The FAQ page about it specifically mentions the Gemini being able to take the standard and extended sizes. I hope all I need is the correct sandwich recipe.

lilacgal I use a Gemini with my HL mat. I think this should work for you too: Sandwich : Plastic plate Self healing mat Paper Die Chipboard/paper-to shim Plastic plate You can always start with no shim and just add them until you get right results.
