I don't ever put up Christmas before Thanksgiving! My DIL died about 4 months ago and every time I even think about Christmas I cry. I wasn't even sure I was going to do Christmas this year. Well we painted the porch this past week-end and I was thinking how good it would look with the Christmas stuff up. So we put the lights up! I think I'm going to put up at least the tree too. Things are just so different this year. I couldn't "like" your post. I can't imagine how difficult the holidays will be for your family. Giant hugs, dear Pea friend. Thank you so much.

So, is it understated enough?

elaine I put the Halloween decorations away yesterday! I have a few Christmas items on top of my entertainment center. There is a surprising amount of homes in my neighborhood that have had outside lights on for at least a week! Yours look great!

I've already got 2 trees up, one is fluffing and one is 3/4 decorated. Someone stole our nice decorations so we let the neighbors kids each pick an inflatable for the yard last year. It's terribly ugly but they get left alone. Elsa and Olaf are at the ready!

I had to pick other because we put up our outside lights and decorations earlier. We had an early freeze and snowfall in October and we thought we wouldn’t be able to put up anything other than the lights we leave on the house. Then it warmed up again for about a week so we got the stuff out there quick. We knew once another cold snap came we wouldn’t be able to poke the stakes into the ground after it was frozen again.
But our inside stuff might go up later this year depending on if we are at the lake for just the day on Thanksgiving or if we stay for the whole weekend.

I put out our Christmas decorations last week. The tree went up last week as well, but we didn’t get around to the ornaments until today. We usually wait until the weekend following Thanksgiving. This year we needed some early Christmas cheer.

The only possible advantage of spending our first Christmas ever without the kids is I can decorate as little as I want.
Ho, ho, Covid.
Timing: I might nudge a bit earlier than the usual second or third week of Advent.
(And I keep decorations up until the Epiphany (Jan 6 this year). I used to call that “normal. Now I call it “traditional” or ”Catholic for the season.” But in the last ten-or-so years, I’ve overheard several incredulous “Wow, you STILL have your decorations up?!” from my kids’ visiting friends, so I imagine others would just call it “lazy.” Heh.)

We'll put our up a little earlier than usual, partly because last year we bought a fake tree so it can go up anytime. It was our first year ever with an artificial tree - I grew up always having a real tree, and DH grew up always having an artificial tree - his Mom still has the one they grew up with, LOL. I love real trees, but we didn't usually put it up until mid-December so that it would last through Epiphany (I'm with you, AmeliaBloomer !). So between both of us WFH, and using artificial instead of real, we'll get our tree and decorations up a little earlier than usual - probably the week after Thanksgiving, or 1st weekend of December. elaine , I love your lights - they're very festive! StephDRebel, I like the way Elsa is positioned near your yard sign - great sign, BTW!

Let it snow! OMG! I absolutely love it. ❤️ I can’t believe someone was so Grinch-y as to steal your decorations and lights. What an awful thing to do. 😡

EXACTLY. I've put up some of the holiday decor, but will most likely not put up a tree. If I'm honest, and can get away with it, we'll get through my DH's neurology appt on the 18th, then pack the car and head to our condo down south. If I'm going to be lonely at Christmas then at least I might as well be warm. Thanks, millions of people that are traveling over Thanksgiving.

I usually wait until mid December because we have always had a real tree. This year, I had an artificial tree given to me, so I'm considering trying to put it up this weekend.
However, it's a 9ft tree and I have 8 foot ceilings, so we'll see how that works out... (if anyone has any ideas/tips, I'm all ears...)
