Both my DS and DIL believe that the dems “ made mask wearing political”, and only wore masks to show their disapproval of Trump.
They also truly believe that now that the election is over, fewer people are wearing masks, and the difference is that liberals no longer feel they have to wear masks to show whose side they are on.
My mind is completely boggled. Is this something being spread on right wing radio?
DS runs a small business and DIL works at Starbucks. Our area is pretty much split between right and left wing voters.

Honestly?
Those of us who believe in the science behind masking don’t understand how ANYONE can make it political. Conversely, those who don’t believe in the science have attributed it to politicization, and they probably have just as difficult of a time believing it’s not political to everyone.

Masks protect others as well as ourselves. Ask your kids why doctors wear masks. Would they be ok with a surgeon operating without a mask?
There is proven knowledge that at very top of the present administration they knew in January the risk of millions of deaths of Americans .. not even counting those who knew well before that. The conspriracy is them hiding the truth from us.
Masks work!! It is not political, it is fact.

I’ve been staying at home, so I can’t verify the “fewer mask wearers” they are talking about.
Back when I was going places, everyone for the most part wore masks. Although there were a crazy lot of people whose nose was exposed.

That is very sad to hear. Masks are the low hanging fruit that will slow the spread of covid.

Unfortunately the other issue is people are getting tired of wearing masks. IF everyone had been wearing masks from day one there would be far fewer deaths.
Over a quarter of a million people have officially died in the United States so far. Many more have died at home and elsewhere without testing who do not appear in the total counts.
After watching what happened in the north east, why didn't the rest of the country take action to protect themselves and others? Because they thought they knew better. They were wrong.

have them look at the stories of wearing masks in 1918 san francisco.. or how new zealand and taiwan beat the covid... New Zealand didn't beat Covid with masks. They beat it with border closures, strict quarantine and severe lockdowns. And to answer the original question - No I haven't heard it, but I live somewhere that doesn't have a political divide on mask wearing, we just wear them, and have been since May.

So are people in other countries only wearing masks to show their disapproval of Trump? They do know the world doesn't revolve around him don't they?

I am not denying that people wear masks in NZ, just that it was not the PRIMARY reason they were able to stop Covid. If masks alone stopped it, rather than just slowing the spread, we wouldn't be having the second wave we have in Europe right now.

We have similar thoughts here too that think our restrictions and mask wearing is because Boris wants to control us all- they drive me insane.

They do know the world doesn't revolve around him don't they? Apparently many Americans don't believe much happens outside of the USA and if it does it's irrelevant anyway.

Well, in all fairness, there has been a lot of spread in personal gatherings, bars and restaurants. Here they are saying that is the majority of new cases. In Belgium, I see most people wearing masks. Do they like it? No. In fact, there was a protest last night in Liège about the lockdown. But people still wear them. The chink in the argument is that people in other countries wear masks, too. A LOT of other countries. Look at Sweden’s issues. It was a mask less experiment that didn’t work, by their own admission. Masks aren’t a 100% protection, but it’s better than nothing.

Masks aren’t a 100% protection, but it’s better than nothing. This is the annoying part that some don't understand though isn't it?. There are three parts that work together in protecting oneself. Keep your distance ( which probably gives someone the most protection of the three) wash your hands often, and the wearing of masks. Leaving one of those three elements out is lowering ones protection. These anti mask wearers can't seem to work that out. Non of the three work on their own to a high degree of protection but all three together forms a far more secure barrier. I really don't understand why some would want to do two ( any two) out of three and be at greater risk - it doesn't make sense to me.

Any one of the tools will cover up some of the holes in the cheese, but using all three gives you the most coverage.

Mask wearing is a multi part protection in itself and things can go ‘wrong’ in any one part. 1 not only do *I* have to wear my mask the people around me also need to wear one 2 not only do we all need to wear our masks but we have to wear them properly covering both mouth & nose ( there’s literally ads about this now ) These people just don’t want to wear the mask but it’s a mandate so they put it on like a chin strap and waste everyone’s time being stupid. I’m so tired of this stupidity. Grow the fuck up and do the right thing I see 4 year olds doing a better job of it. 3 masks work better when they FIT ( tell that to my employer who got ‘one size fits all’ masks that don’t really fit anyone. ) I have to ‘alter’ every mask so it actually fits & doesn’t gap 4 different masks protect differently, some masks are made of better material, some people just wear a scarf with knitted holes over their face. Technically it’s a ‘face covering’ so it complies with the mandate but it’s not doing me any good that they are wearing it. *5 some people are fucking idiots. And idiots are endangering the rest of us. Like the jackass in the post office yesterday that pulled down his mask so he could cough. Really Jack ass? WTF did you think the mask was for? I just can’t understand why it’s so god damned hard to get it.

The anti-maskers where I live don't believe in social distancing either. They hate it equally as much as the masks. We probably do not want to know how they feel about hand washing.

What a pile of nonsense.
People are wearing masks to try and keep themselves safe from COVID. Maybe they could try listening to the science behind wearing a mask.
Also, Dems and republicans don’t exist in other countries, and yet they’re all wearing masks. Are all the other countries in the world also out to get trump and mandating quarantined and mask wearings to really screw him over?

Here's SD Governor saying "don't worry, we're where we expected to be..."
How is this not criminal for a Governor? Where WHO expected to be? Morons who don't follow science? Maybe. Governors who are responsible for health and safety in their state?! NOPE.
SD has climbed the charts to one of the highest date rates per capita from Covid.
And it ain't over yet.

Yup...only North Dakota is worse as far as cases per capita. My state is 4th best for cases per capita, and 9th best for deaths per capita. I'm really worried what the numbers are going to look like once they start going up from the Thanksgiving gatherings.

You aren’t allowed in any store here in Northern VA without a mask. Our governor issued a mask mandate early on in the pandemic. It hasn’t changed since the election. I can’t remember the last time I saw anyone in a store without a mask. And it hasn’t changed since the election.
I will admit to continuing to wear my Biden/Harris 2020 face masks much of the time in public, so, in a sense it is a political statement, but not in the way the OP’s kids think it is. And I wear a mask as often now (in any public space) as I did before the election.
