So everyone knows how big these dogs get right? 150-170 pounds. So in the last few months I have been setting up food for delivery, buying lots of chew toys, bones, snacks (he is a bottomless pit).. So now he is about outgrown his kennel.... By this weekend I am going to have to get him out. So last week.. I get on Amazon, do a bunch of research and ordered him a bigger kennel. Figure I might as well get the biggest one for him instead of buying kennels that will last a week. This MONSTER box shows up on my porch. Okay.. Well I am sure there is a lot of packing in it. I start tearing the box apart and pulling out the pieces.. Now I KNOW in my head this thing is big. REALLY big. But I will figure out where I am going to put it. It's now all scattered through my family room. My DD (12yrs) and I are putting this together.. (I am still in denial how big this is)... I get all the sides up and door.. not the top yet. I sit on my couch to look at it.. I can't even see my TV.. it's that tall. It's like I built a condo in the middle of my family room. At this point I am still in denial.. HAHA.. So there it sat for two days. My two kids and me and my monster of a puppy are all walking around this thing. I am thinking about moving furniture around to make it work. Nope. The only way this thing is going to fit is in the corner where my DS currently has his desk, which he is moving in Jan. So two more days go by and now I am thinking.. that is going to be super ugly, never mind the fact it will take up that entire side of the room. FINALLY on Sunday night, my DD who is 12 is having a meltdown because she can't find her charging cord for her computer. We are tearing the house apart looking for it. I came to my senses during this meltdown and I told DS take it apart NOW and get it out of my face.. LOL and now it is in pieces in my garage. I can't return it. Amazon would have to come literally to my house.. lol.. It's a monster. We did find the charging cord.. in her ROOM.. Uggggg. Now do I take the chance and see how he does without a kennel or buy the correct size.. not one meant for a cow or horse. But Mousse(y) is such a big baby still.. he's so darn cute.. except his shark teeth. Oh if you are in Colorado.. I have a kennel for sale!!! Only $100!! $50 off the original price..

I know it’s too late now, but this is really one of those threads that is useless without pictures. 😉😁

That's hilarious!! What are the dimensions? I take it the dog will NEVER require a kennel of this magnitude?

Here's the link.... It does say St. Bernard... but there is NO way he would ever get as big as the kennel.. He would literally the top of his head would be touching my chest area.. lol.. No doubt he will get big.. I did talk to a friend who rescued St. Bernard's and he was laughing.. he said "I have had over 30 of those dogs.. no way you need that size kennel." www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005VVWBVY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I believe Kohl's has a station/area in their stores to accept Amazon returns without a box. (I just make sure to have the original receipt/order number so I can be credited correctly.)

I think I will just put it on Marketplace and knock off $50 and see what happens. If anything maybe we can use in the backyard.. although we NEVER kennel a dog outside. NEVER... Maybe I can repurpose it for fencing in areas he likes to dig!!! NOW that is a thought. ummmmm, gonna run that by DH....

I'm chiming in with everyone else who is requesting a photo of your puppy. We had one when I was little and I've always had a soft spot for them.

My daughter and son-in-law have the XXL crate for their one year old St. Bernard and it’s really none to big for him...so maybe you should keep it somewhere just in case. (And yes, it takes up a lot of space in their room.)

You’re going to need a kennel for at least another year. Puppies can get into a lot of things that are harmful to them. A kennel will protect the house AND the dog!
Kohl’s will have a cart to bring it inside. And I thought I bought the biggest sized kennel for Emma when we flew to Belgium!

Put it in the back yard, throw some plastic sheets over it and you'll have a greenhouse.

I feel your pain. They are huge and terribly ugly. You may want to hold onto it. This is the next size down, about 6 inches smaller each measurement but Zeus is a dane/mastiff and would much prefer having the biggest one up. I just don't have the room. And he's Hella mad that I asked him to walk in there to see how big it was 😆 Im not mad at the greenhouse idea at all...I may do that when we don't need the isolation space for his brother.

I would personally keep it and use it. Dogs don't need kennels forever. We have only used them until the chewing thing is no longer an issue. Then repurpose it for something else or sell it.

Too funny!!!!! That's the SAME kennel that I have for 2 Boxer's. I adopted them a year ago in July and the lady I was adopting from said to get that size for them together. My house is 924 sq ft. This kennel takes up 1/4 of my living room. I could sleep in it, just not stand up or lay flat. I'm just used to it by now. They go in there when we aren't home. They love going in there, they get a treat. And sometimes if DD17 and I are in the living room watching TV, the older dog will lay in the kennel (since one of us is in "her" spot on the couch). I put Christmas lights on the kennel so it's festive. Sorry the pic is a little dark!!

You might want to reconsider keeping it and finding somewhere to put it. I have a mastiff/sr Bernard/ Newfoundland mix. She’s about 140 pounds now and would absolutely need that size kennel. Thankfully she’s super laid back and we haven’t had to crate since she was about 6 months old. We have a size smaller for our boxer who is still crated at a year and the mix can’t even come close to fitting in it. If he’s still chewing your going to want to crate him — or he’ll destroy walls and furniture

Thanks you guys!!! And I will post some pics.. even the one with my daughter standing in it. HAHA (maybe!)

I'd keep it if I were you... we had one size down for our Bernese Mountain Dog - who was quite large but much smaller than a Saint - and it was the correct size for her. I can't imagine a Saint fitting in there.
You can block off part of the crate now so it's not so huge for the pup, and expand the amount of space available as the dog grows.

OMG I just went to the reviews and found a FAMILY of four plus their two dogs (one a German Shepard) ALL INSIDE the cage. That is a great point of view.

Once my kid moves out next month.. I might just reconsider putting it back up.. I don't know.. I feel like I am wishy washy haha... The lights are great on it. I think I wouldn't do that to mine this year. Moussey would just eat them.
