I make jello quite often. It is my go to snack, with a dab of whipped cream. Anyways, I made some last night. I looked at it today and the tops are not smooth. They look like someone placed a piece of paper towel on top and pulled it off. Or, sort of looks like when you pull tape off of paper and the paper gets all ripped up looking. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I make sure I dissolve the powder throughly. I don’t know if this is still edible or if it is some kind of mold or something. Would you eat or toss? Jello is cheap so no biggie if I toss. Just wondering what you would do.
UPDATE - There was ice in the jello! I had issues with finding ice inside a bag of lettuce a couple of months ago. Now, ice in the jello. Apparently the refrigerator is too cold. Might be time to have it checked out. The thermostat is set higher than the recommended temperature.

Yes I would eat it, but whenever I make jello it never comes out perfectly smooth on top.

Yes I would eat it, but whenever I make jello it never comes out perfectly smooth on top. This looks like the top shiny layer was scrapped off. leaving a rough dull top.

I had that happen once but am not sure how it happened. It couldn't be mold in this time frame; I'm sure it's fine, but I have no answer as to why it happened!

I'd eat it & not worry one bit.
That happens for me when there are air bubbles after mixing before it sets.

Jello is pretty hardy. I'm sure it's fine.

I have had Jello have like pock marks. Funnier when you cool it with ice cubes and forget to take them all out before putting it into the refrigerator.

My jello always looks like this. Retry sure it’s just trapped air bubbles that chilled. It tastes fine, just isn’t as pretty. This is also why I never make jello. I bugs the crap out of me that mine is never perfectly smooth on top. 😂

I want some Jello now, too. I like to make it with sparkling water - carbonated Jello!

Mine does that when there were bubbles on the top, either I whisked it too much, or my water wasn't hot enough?
I don't know, but it's edible.

Two cokes have exploded in our fridge when packed with a bunch of cans...

I have never tried this, but what if you put plastic wrap over the top of jello to keep it smooth. I do this with royal icing to keep it from getting a crusty top. Would be a cool experiment...lol
