Good morning ladies! I'm in the market for a die cutting manual machine. I have a Cricket and a cameo that I barely use😔 I'm more of a buyer the new user..... I was looking at a big shot. I know nothing about any of them, advise please

I'd go with the Spellbinder machine. In all honesty, I say that because I'm on the boycott sizzix bandwagon.

I'd look for a big shot on FB marketplace or craigslist. I think new ones on a good sale go for about $45/50.

I've only had my Big Shot for a few months but I'm loving it. I specifically choose it because it isn't electric. I wanted the simplicity of not having to troubleshoot a lot of things. I second the advice of looking for a secondhand deal. I was too afraid too so that because I had zero experience with die cutting machines, but it turns out the Big Shot really is dummy proof and I would have been fine. 😂

I don't know what kind of "pads" hard, soft, how many, what kind of dies can you use with it......

I have a big shot (from years ago!) it still works fine.
I use big and thin dies. A variety of brands. I have the firm plastic cutting pads (which I need new ones). It's pretty basic to use which I like. I don't use it enough but have begun to look at letter dies because with two daughters with names that start and end with A's...I run out FAST.

I have the Spellbinders Platinum 6. I think the manual machines are pretty much the same. But I love that the Spellbinders machine has a smaller footprint than the Big Shot and the sides folds up! Plus I'm with pinklady on the boycott bandwagon.

i have a cuttlebug because the sides fold up. space is a premium in my room so i like the portability and compact storage profile it provides.

The handle on my 20 year old Spellbinder machine just cracked, I will more than likely replace with another Spellbinder machine. I like the footprint.
Curious to know what the story is on Sizzix.

I love love love my Gemini Junior. It isn’t actually a manual machine, but an electric die-cutter. So there’s no programming, no blades, nothing like that. It is the same as a manual machine, but powered. I have RA and was struggling sometimes to crank the handle on my Cuttlebug. This machine is a joy to use!

It's my understanding discounts can be applied to machines unless they're specifically excluded in the fine print on sales flyers & coupons. Also, I saw the Big Kick Starter Kit (periwinkle) for $49.99 & (the smaller) Sidekick Starter Kit (Tim Holtz/brown) for $24.99 at Tuesday Morning before the holidays. If you have a store in your area, perhaps it will still have them in stock. HTH, & you find a great price! Regarding Sizzix boycott, see this recent thread.

I have a Big Shot for bigger dies, but I also have a Diamond press from HSN that is really handy for smaller dies. I’m really impressed with the Diamond Press. The machine is easy to use, the dies are great, and it works well with other company’s dies. Plus, I got one in purple which is a total bonus. I also have the original big red Sizzix machine and an original Quickutz that I can’t part with because both still work and work well. I guess in my mind, it’s hard to go wrong with a manual die cutting machine! For some reason, I prefer the manual ones.

I love my TH Vagabond. It works like all the manual ones but has a electric feed-no cranking.

I love love love my Gemini Junior. I just got mine for Christmas because I love die cutting my alphabets, and it gets to be a lot of cranking when you want to layer up the letters. Enjoying it, and it's a smaller footprint than the big shot. My big shot - my first one broke, I got another - will keep it for back up. No complaints about it really.

I have the Spellbinder, the Big Shot, and the Cuttlebug. IMO the Big Shot/Big Kick is the best manual machine. You can find them with accessories at Tuesday Morning for $49.99 new. Worth it.

I have a Big Kick/Big Shot + a Sizzix Sidekick but since getting my Cameo a couple of years ago I use it probably 90% of the time.

I bought a Big Shot recently and I use it mostly for cutting basic shapes like circles and stars. The nested dies with different sizes make it easy to cut a bunch. I think it’s easier than using my Cameo if I just want a few circles.

I have a WRMK Evolution. I like that it folds up and can be pretty compact. There is no complicated sandwiching to keep track of.
I have a Gemini Jr too and use that if I’m doing a lot of cutting or more intricate dies.

What do you all think about the WRMK Revolution? I think that is the one Ali Edwards uses, they have them at my JoAnns.

My only criteria is that I'd never buy a a machine that couldn't use a self-healing cutting mat or kitchen cutting board. Both are easily sourced from multiple manufacturers and don't cost an arm and a leg the way new plates do. Clear plastic plates are the worst of the lot; inevitably they warp and crack.

I love my TH Vagabond. It works like all the manual ones but has a electric feed-no cranking. I love my Vagabond 2 machine too! it takes Bigz dies and thinlet dies, embossing folders, 3D embossing folders and it is electric. Works like a charm. Has a feature that stops you from putting in the wrong sandwich so you don't break it. Only in the USA though, doesn't work in Europe or Australia because of the electrical power differences.

I love my Gemini Jr. I have a Big Shot too that I kept because I have some big Tim Holtz Steel dies, but I honestly never use it. I should probably sell it.
