Anyone want to walk away from the internet? Is it possible?

Yep...I gave it up yesterday.






oh wait.... haha, nope not a chance. For a few days, sure, but for long term, no.

I blame my smart phone. It is way too easy to scroll thru Facebook, instantly answer that email, peruse instagram or interest...I swear I have the damn thing attached to my hand all day.

I have no desire to give it up, though I recognize it isn't good for me probably. Kind of like beer, lol.

One thing that helps is cutting down the amount of junk mail you get in your email. You hear the alert, or see a number of emails waiting, and you can waste all day looking at that. Stores are the worst. If you don't shop at those stores much, unsubscribe or send it all to a junk folder and only look at that once a day or once a week. Usually, the coupons you're getting emailed are exactly the same on the site, so if you're shopping there, check out the site (or your junk folder) at that time.

Plug in your phone and walk away. You're a SAHM to be with your kids, not to be with your phone.

Once you get into a different routine, it's pretty easy!

In august for about two weeks I just quit. I got angry about stupid snarky comments about Tony and I just quit. I turned off my iPad and never sat at my computer. Used my cell as a phone and text though, but deleted all games and apps.
I was doing really well until my mom landed in the ER with pneumonia and it was a really really long night. I needed support.

I go through periods where I don't get on our desktop and just do a few of my favorites on my smartphone, but give up everything completely? Nope, not a chance.

I tried this recently but unsubscribing seems almost impossible! I have tried to unsubscribe from at least a dozen companies yet still the emails come. I know I could do the junk folder but I'd rather get rid of them altogether - if I only could!!

I've had the same thing!! SO annoying!

Honestly? I don't really understand the point of walking away from the internet. Doing that you walk away from a lot more than just a message board. I'm not interested in cutting off my nose to spit my face and the internet is much too valuable in my day to day life to cut it out. I see no need to cut myself off from the world.

I also don't consider my internet use an addiction and don't really like using the term addiction so lightly. But that's my personal issue with the word so I don't know why I brought it up.

I had problems with unsubscribing from The Children's Place emails. I finally emailed customer service and they listened and took me off of their list. From now on I'm going to email customer service to unsubscribe from emails I don't want.

I need to cut back on  my Internet usage too. I could get so much more done.

Yes, I definitely think I piss too much time away on the internet.  

My ADD tendencies surely factor  into it.  If I'm bored with a project I'm working on at home my brain goes to "Hmm I wonder if so-and-so replied to my email."  So I'll sign on just to check my email and before I know it a half hour has gone by and I've caught up on Facebook and this board as well as collected a few more pins on projects "I'm going to do some day."     If this only happened once or twice a day it would be ok but that isn't the case.  

One thing that really helps is when I'll tell myself that I will absolutely stay off the internet for x number of hours.  At first it's pure torture, but then I actually start really enjoying whatever other activity I'm doing.  I'll then reward myself with a short break on the internet and find myself wanting to go do something productive again -- the successes build on each other.  At the end of the day it feels so good to see all I've been able to accomplish because I was able to be disciplined and not give in to internet distraction. 

And with that I hereby declare that I will not get on the internet for 3 hours.  

The internet is not my Kryptonite. Those cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies are!

No, but I periodically delete my games from my phone. I get a bit obsessive with word scramble, etc. TO the point, where I see scrambled words when I close my eyes to sleep at night.
