We are considering getting an XBOX for our 7 and 11 yr old kids for a big Santa gift. I see there are 2 versions for sale on Amazon. What is the difference between the 360 and ONE and which one is best for kids this age. They mostly want it to play Minecraft on and they also enjoy sports and driving games. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

The ONE is the new one, he'll want that.

The ONE is the new one, he'll want that. Yep, that. Don't bother with the 360. The graphics are much better on the XBOne and the older model will eventually be phased out.

Be sure to look for the xbox one that comes WITHOUT the kinect. Unless you want microsoft spying on your living room.

And honestly I'm not worried. Do you worry about the camera on your phone, tablet and computer too? Cause you can be spied on through all of them too. Definitely go with the Xbox one though. The 360 is outdated and won't be getting games much longer.

Well, when someone decides to hack my very stupid phone, it's unlikely to be for one of the reasons Microsoft was reportedly going to use the kinect: to scan you and your living room to figure out your age demo and things you already own and target ads to you.

I just asked my kids and my 16 year old said, if he was being forced to purchase a game console, it would be the Playstation 4 and my 13 year old said the WiiU (he wants to play Mario Kart and Smash Brothers.) According to them, the only reason the Xbox One is selling is because "Microsoft is holding Halo hostage" and if you want to play Halo you have to buy the Xbox One. Apparently the Xbox has a bad reputation among their peers.
The take home lesson I got from the conversation is the games you want to play will determine the console you buy. And that Microsoft sucks. So I'm not much help. BTW, all my kids prefer to play games on a PC.

Also, have your kids ask their friends what game platform they play on (if you can do that without tipping them off). We went through this with DS (now 14) a few years ago before we committed to XBox over PS. It's not only which games are better on which platform, it's also whether all their friends are on one system and they're on another (if they want to collaborate). If they're not teaming up with friends then that part doesn't really matter, though.

I was going to say about $200, but I wasn't sure. My boys both have ONE. It has a lot of upgrades.

Well, at that age and with the games you mention, I would say that the graphics on either one will be ok for them. Also, they are still releasing new games on the 360; it's likely good for new games for at least another year. So, I'd say think about how often you'll want to upgrade machines, will adults or older kids also want to play, are there specifc games you need available for that platform, etc? So far, I've seen great Black Friday deals on both sets. FWIW.

I don't know anything about the Xbox One (too new) but I think buying the newest systems over all is the best idea since you will be able to stay current much longer. My ds has had an xbox of some kind since he was probably 12 or so. He has had a few consoles but has loved xbox the best and has a lot of friends who play on xbox live (extra $). Go for it !
